Chapter 323 Strange Talisman

After returning to Garden Villa, Sophia immediately started a video chat with her parents to let them know she was safe, while William locked himself in his room to continue his training.

After a full meal, it was the best time for cultivation.

"I need to digest the food in my stomach quickly!" William smirked. Recently, he had become obsessed with the practice of training right after a meal. Not only was it efficient, but it also aided digestion. It was truly a double benefit.

With the door closed, William closed his eyes and began his cultivation.

The superpower within his body circulated once again, increasing...

A little while later, William felt quite contented. It was only when he faintly heard someone calling him from outside that he snapped out of his reverie. Stretching lazily and exhaling deeply, he instantly felt completely refreshed.

Upon opening the door, William discovered three women standing outside.

"William, you finally came out! We're starving," Sophia pleaded, clutching her stomach. Fiona and Kylie also stared at William eagerly, resembling chicks waiting for their mother to bring them food.

"Have I been in there for a long time?" William asked, puzzled. He had just finished lunch, so how could these women be hungry again?

"For a whole eight hours. It's completely dark outside," Kylie complained with her arms crossed.

"Indeed!" William unconsciously glanced outside and noticed that it was indeed pitch dark.

"Well, alright. I'll make lasagna for you. Just wait," William sighed inwardly. He was lost for words with these three beautiful yet culinary-challenged ladies.

"Lasagna works. Hurry up, I'm famished!!" Fiona exclaimed, clutching her stomach eagerly.

Shaking his head, William rolled up his sleeves and went to the kitchen to prepare lasagna for them.

Before William even brought the dish out, Sophia, Fiona, and Kylie were scrambling for bowls, leaving William speechless.

Outside, these three girls would definitely be the objects of men's pursuit, yet here they were, competing to grab lasagna with such lack of manners.

"You don't need to fight. I've made plenty, enough for all of us to eat," William kindly reminded them. However, they continued to grab and stuff the lasagna into their bowls, as if the food tasted better when fought over.

William could only shake his head speechlessly and let them be.

Soon, everyone had their bowls filled with lasagna and sat down at the dining table to eat. William served himself a bowl and sat next to Sophia.

"Delicious! Your cooking skills are getting better and better, William," Sophia complimented while eating.

William smiled and was about to take a bite when he suddenly caught a whiff of a strange fragrance coming from Sophia, subtle yet distinct.

"Sophia, your perfume today is quite unique," William instinctively remarked.

"I didn't spray any perfume. I've been staying in the villa and couldn't be bothered to put any on," Sophia replied, puzzled.

"You didn't wear perfume?" William sniffed carefully, indeed detecting a peculiar scent emanating from Sophia.

"Hmm, who needs perfume at home? Besides, I haven't noticed any fragrance on myself," Sophia replied, sounding slightly confused.

Sophia smelled herself and confirmed that there was no scent.

"You haven't noticed any strange smell coming from Sophia?" William turned to Kylie and Fiona, feeling something odd about this situation.

"No, it seems normal, doesn't it?" Fiona leaned closer to Sophia and sniffed, finding no particular scent.

"This is strange." William was certain that the peculiar odor was coming from Sophia. He had never smelled it before today, and it should be faint enough that ordinary people like Sophia and Fiona couldn't detect it.

William, who had already reached the level of a grandmaster, possessed keen senses that allowed him to smell it. He moved closer to Sophia's body and sniffed, confirming the source of the smell.

"The scent is coming from your chest." William honestly stated, but Fiona and Kylie misunderstood, thinking that William was trying to tease Sophia. They became furious and almost called him a pervert.

"William, what do you mean? Why are you staring at Sophia's chest and smelling it??"

Blushing with embarrassment, even Sophia instinctively covered her chest.

"Oh, by the way, that amulet Malcolm gave you during the day, did you hang it on your chest?" Suddenly, William remembered something and asked.

"Yes, why?" Sophia nodded in response.

"If nothing unexpected happened, this peculiar smell should be emanating from the amulet." William said.

"Quick, take it out."

"Really?" Sophia hesitantly removed the amulet from her chest and handed it to William. He took it and smelled it, confirming that the peculiar smell did indeed come from the amulet.

"Correct, the source of that peculiar odor is indeed this amulet." After a brief pause, William turned to Sophia and continued to inquire.

"Sophia, did your mother really ask Malcolm to deliver this amulet to you?"

"Yes, I just had a video chat with my mother. This amulet was indeed a gift from her." Sophia nodded earnestly.

"Alright then, keep wearing it for now!" William carefully inspected the amulet again, confirming that it was a folded piece of paper with nothing else inside.

In the end, he had no choice but to reluctantly return the amulet to Sophia. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about it, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was.

At night, William stayed by Sophia's side. While she lay in bed sleeping, William sat cross-legged on the floor, practicing meditation.

The strange scent continued to linger around William.

In his mind, he would remain cautious and weary of that talisman.

"It seems like I need to find Beauvoir tomorrow," William thought to himself, believing it would be wise to be careful. After all, there are signs that Malcolm intends to take Sophia away, and he seems desperate, indicating malicious intentions.

The next day, Sophia slept in and only woke up when William finished preparing breakfast and called her name. She woke up drowsily.

This was quite unusual since Sophia usually wakes up at eight or nine in the morning. However, today she slept until after ten and was still groggy when she was called.

"Sophia, did you not sleep well last night?" William asked with concern.

"No, I slept quite well, and I've never slept this well before," Sophia replied, stretching lazily.

William said, "Show me your protective amulet; I feel like there's something special about it."

"Here you go," Sophia took off the amulet and handed it to William before going to freshen up.

After receiving the amulet, William went to find Madelyn and Beauvoir. Madelyn, being a doctor, might know something about scents, and Beauvoir, who had lived for so long, might recognize something.

However, he was disappointed to find that Madelyn couldn't smell anything, so there was no way to determine what component released this odor.

Although Beauvoir claimed to smell the scent, he was not familiar with it either.

"It's truly strange. This is the first time I've encountered such a situation," William murmured to himself. In the end, he returned the amulet to Sophia. After all, it was personally obtained by her mother, and perhaps he was being overly suspicious.
