Chapter 178 Up and down!
Paul had mobilized almost all of the security forces from his Miller family to capture William, with over a hundred people in total. Diego, who ranked first in the black boxing arena, led the team, showing the importance Paul placed on apprehending William this time.
After Diego and his men arrived at DDF Mansion, he immediately called Emilio, receiving the information that William was on the rooftop platform of the office building. Diego had no doubts about it.
"William is on the rooftop platform. Leave half of the men here to guard, and the rest of us will go up to the rooftop to catch William," Diego instructed, swiftly leading his team inside the building. They originally intended to take the elevator, but unfortunately, it was out of order.
"Aidan, the elevator is broken," one of Diego's subordinates who followed him said.
"I noticed the sign; you don't have to remind me. Send half of the team to the left staircase, and I'll lead the others up through the right one!" Diego thought that by splitting up, it would be impossible for William to escape.
"But this is the twelfth floor. Do we really have to climb all the way up to the rooftop?" The subordinate's expression turned unsightly. DDF Mansion had twelve floors, climbing them one by one, all the way to the rooftop would be quite exhausting.
"Don't give me any nonsense! Move quickly! If William escapes, we'll all be punished!" Diego scolded him before leading his team upstairs. Helpless, the subordinate had no choice but to lead his team up the other staircase.
Climbing from the first floor to the twelfth floor would exhaust any ordinary person. Of course, this didn't apply to someone like Diego, who possessed exceptional physical ability and strength.
Half an hour later, a group of over fifty people finally climbed to the top floor using the stairs on both sides. They were all panting and pale, except for Diego, who seemed unaffected.
"What a bunch of useless people! Hurry up to the rooftop platform," Diego said, then ran by himself towards the door leading to the rooftop platform. He forcefully kicked it open since it was slightly ajar, and he walked out first.
However, what greeted his eyes was an empty space with not a single person in sight! There wasn't even a place for someone to hide.
"Damn it, where are the people?" Diego was getting frustrated. He quickly took out his phone and dialed Emilio again, wanting to ask him what was going on.
Emilio answered the call soon after, and Diego began to curse at him.
"You said William was on the rooftop platform, right? I'm on the rooftop platform now, and I haven't seen a single trace of him."
"Aidan, it seems like William discovered that you guys were coming to catch him. He pretended to come to work and quietly went to the sixth floor. It seems like he even hid in one of the offices. Hurry up and come, I'm keeping an eye on him," Emilio confidently replied.
"Damn it, this guy knows how to hide." Diego didn't doubt Emilio's words. After hanging up the phone, he turned to his subordinates who had followed him.
"William went to the sixth floor. Let's quickly go back to the sixth floor and search each office!"
The subordinates had no choice but to comply. Although they were reluctant deep down, they had to follow.
Running from the twelfth floor to the sixth floor, they were all panting again. However, upon reaching the sixth floor, they were faced with over twenty closed office doors.
"Aidan, do we really have to search office by office? Will it be too noisy? What if we can't open the doors, what should we do? Should we leave or forcefully break in to search?" one subordinate asked, undecided and confused.
"Search each office for me. If the doors won't open, break them down. If anything happens, Sir will take responsibility!" Diego said loudly. In the North district, the Miller family still held some influence, and they could definitely withstand the consequences of breaking a few office doors.
With Diego's instructions, the subordinates began their search without any hesitation.
First, they knocked on the doors, hoping someone would open. If someone did, it would be ideal to enter and search. If no one opened the door, there was a high probability that William was hiding inside, and they couldn't let him slip away.
However, there hadn't been any companies operating in the DDF Mansion for a long time. As a result, 90% of the rooms on the sixth floor couldn't be opened. A few people had to join forces to kick the doors or pry the locks open. They checked each room one by one. Despite the passage of a full half hour, they still hadn't found any sign of William.
Diego was starting to feel impatient. Not only had they failed to find William, but Emilio was nowhere to be found either. This made him unable to resist making another phone call to Emilio.
"Emilio, where are you? We agreed to meet on the sixth floor, so where are you?"
"Aidan, William is so cunning. He came to the second floor using the water pipe outside the office on the sixth floor. I'm heading to the second floor right now. You should come down quickly, or he'll escape," Emilio said urgently on the phone.
"What? He went to the second floor?" Aidan was furious, cursing under his breath. William was too good at running! Moreover, Diego was annoyed because he hadn't seen Emilio around the whole time.
After hanging up the phone, Diego quickly gathered his subordinates again and gave them instructions.
"William ran to the second floor. Let's go down and catch him."
Some of the subordinates were discouraged. They didn't expect to be chasing after William like this. But they had no choice and reluctantly followed Diego to the second floor. However, when they reached the second floor, they were faced with a row of locked offices.
"Aidan, where is Emilio? Which office has William hidden himself in? It's so exhausting to search blindly based on his words!" one of the subordinates complained.
"Yeah, Aidan. We've been running up and down the stairs, picking locks, and banging doors. How much longer do we have to do this?"
Several subordinates voiced their complaints, and even Diego himself was becoming frustrated. Without any certainty, he was making them search blindly, which was wasting their energy.
He wanted to call Emilio but, at that moment, his phone rang without him dialing any number.
Diego frowned. It was a call from one of his subordinates who was supposed to be guarding downstairs. Did they manage to catch William?
Thinking this, Diego quickly answered the call, but the news from the other end of the line wasn't good.
"Aidan, Antony, Levi, and their men are here. Baca also brought people from the underground fighting arena. There are two to three hundred people. Should we retreat? Our guys outside can't hold on much longer!"
"What?" Diego was shocked. He never expected William's reinforcements to arrive so quickly.
Well, it wasn't really quick. It was their weak approach in capturing William. It had been more than an hour since they entered the building, running up and down, and then picking locks and banging doors. In that much time, it was enough for Antony to gather reinforcements.
"Everyone, come with me downstairs to face the enemy." Since they couldn't find William for now, the priority was to see if they could retreat safely. Although Diego was confident in his strength and didn't even take Sharon seriously, the fact that Antony and his two to three hundred men suddenly appeared made him wary.
Meanwhile, in room 405, William saw Antony and his men arrive through the window. Seeing the two to three hundred people, William finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Now I can finally get out!" Emilio, on the other hand, became even more uncomfortable.
"Looks like it's getting dangerous with so many people. Diego probably won't be able to hold them off," Emilio trembled a bit and asked William. "William, when can I get the remaining ninety thousand dollars?"
He was now worried about his own safety, afraid that once William was safe, he might suddenly change his mind. In that case, he would end up losing both his money and his life.
"Don't worry, you won't lose a single cent of what belongs to you. I'm someone who values trustworthiness," William patted his shoulder with a smile. Emilio played a crucial role in the past hour, if it wasn't for him deceiving Diego and buying them more time, William might have been found and captured by now.
"In that case, thank you, Mr. Brown," Emilio's tone and attitude became more respectful. After all, his life was in William's hands. He couldn't afford not to show respect.
"Let's go. Aren't they looking for me? I'll walk out on my own now and see how they try to catch me," William's lips curled into a slight smile. Then, he briskly led Emilio, Kayla, and Hazel down from the fourth floor.
