Chapter 177 Taking the Initiative
DDF Mansion had a dilapidated environment, and very few companies chose to set up their offices here. The ones remaining were either small companies or ones with no future, merely symbolic establishments.
When William and Kayla arrived, they discovered that the elevator was out of order.
"The elevator here is broken!" William exclaimed, speechless. It was the first time he had ever encountered such a lousy commercial building. He sighed in disgust, "Let's take the stairs. Kayla, can you climb with those high heels on?"
"I should be fine. It's just four floors," Kayla replied with a charming smile, enhancing the beauty of her alluring face.
They climbed up the stairs, with William, who had become physically stronger, having no problem with the four floors. However, Kayla, in her high heels, was panting a bit.
"I'll carry you," William suddenly crouched down and said.
"No need, just one more floor to go. I'm not that weak!" Kayla intended to persevere a little longer, but to her surprise, William would not stood for it.
"Hurry up!" William urged.
"Okay!" Kayla's heart warmed up. Being with William, she increasingly felt like a little woman. Sometimes, she even felt that she had to rely on William to open a bottle cap.
Kayla climbed onto William's back, her legs wrapped around his waist, and her arms encircled his neck. Instantly, her fragrance enveloped the air.
Instinctively, William held onto Kayla's legs wrapped around his waist, finding their touch smooth and slippery, which momentarily stunned him.
However, he soon resumed walking up to the fourth floor with Kayla on his back.
"William, do you take care of other girls like this too?" Kayla, lying on William's back, couldn't help but ask, filled with an indescribable sense of happiness.
"What do you think?" William smirked.
"Well, then, do you spoil Michelle in the same way?" Kayla suddenly asked, showing a great deal of interest.
"Definitely. I spoil her even more!" Without thinking, William replied.
Upon hearing this, Kayla felt a tinge of jealousy. However, she couldn't make a fuss about it. It wasn't wrong for him to spoil his girlfriend. She just felt uncomfortable deep down, so she could only hold onto William's neck even tighter.
William found it difficult to breathe with her arms wrapped so tightly around his neck.
"Don't hold me that tight, I can't breathe."
William said frustratedly, "You did it on purpose."
"Of course, I did," Kayla muttered.
William was puzzled, unsure of what had made her angry again.
After reaching the fourth floor, William lowered Kayla from his back. However, the entire hallway was empty, giving off a sinister and eerie vibe.
"Room 405 should be on the left," Kayla said, glancing at the door number. She started walking towards the left side of the corridor, with William silently following behind. He faintly felt someone following them.
But when he turned around to look, he didn't find anything. The gloomy corridor seemed undisturbed.
"Could someone be tailing me?" William frowned, a sense of unease growing within him.
"William, come on! The branch office is over there!" Kayla turned and saw William standing still, so she loudly called out to him.
"Okay, I'm coming," William replied. However, instead of following Kayla, he lurked in a corner next to a door. He wanted to confirm if someone was indeed following him.
The shadowy figure sneaked out from the stairs, following Kayla as she turned left. He didn't notice William lurking in the corner of a door.
But after only a few steps, William swiftly emerged from the corner of the door, directly seizing his collar.
"Who told you to follow me?" William said with a cold tone.
"Follow you? I'm here to work. Who do you think you are?" The follower, named Emilio, had a triangular beard and a rather short stature. After being caught by William, he couldn't resist.
"You won't talk? Don't blame me for being impolite then." William withdrew a small knife from his pocket and pointed it threateningly towards his crotch.
"If you don't talk, I'll castrate you!"
"I really wasn't following you! I'm just here to work. You misunderstood me!" Emilio tried to defend himself, but William didn't waste time with him. He immediately stabbed his lower area with the small knife, causing Emilio to tremble in fear and quickly beg for mercy.
"I'll talk, I'll talk! Paul sent me to keep an eye on you."
William's lips curled into a slight smile, satisfied with the effectiveness of his tactic. However, his tone turned cold, and he continued asking, "Why did he want you to keep an eye on me?"
"He just told me to watch you. I don't know the specifics," Emilio said, avoiding eye contact, clearly showing signs of lying. How could William believe him?
"If you tell me the truth, I might even reward you a little. If not, I'll throw you off this fourth floor," William said, dragging Emilio to the end of the corridor.
Emilio struggled by the window, unwilling to go, but his strength was no match for William's, and in the end, he could only be forcefully dragged to the window.
William originally wanted to scare him a bit, but when he looked down, he saw many vans approaching from a distance towards DDF Mansion. It wouldn't take long for them to arrive.
Now, even without Emilio saying anything, William knew what Paul had planned.
"So, he saw me isolated and decided to surround me!" William's eyes turned cold. Paul had to be eliminated, or else he wouldn't be able to freely move around the North district anymore.
Thinking this, William dragged Emilio towards the left side of the corridor and simultaneously called Antony on his phone, telling him to bring people to DDF Mansion to support him.
Antony on the other end of the phone was furious upon hearing that Paul dared to send people to capture William. He quickly gathered his men and headed towards DDF Mansion.
"William, let's talk things over." Emilio, seeing the murderous intent emanating from William, begged for mercy.
"If you want to stay alive, stop talking!" William still had use for Emilio later, so for now, he could only drag him towards Kayla's branch office.
At this moment, Kayla had already arrived at the entrance of the branch office. When she turned around and saw William dragging a short unfamiliar man towards her, she couldn't help but ask in surprise, "William, who is he?"
"Don't mind him, just hurry inside!" William needed a place to hide urgently, and the branch office was suitable for that.
Kayla also sensed William's urgency and didn't dare to delay. She quickly took out the key to open the door, but halfway through, the door opened on its own.
"Who are you looking for???" A head with a ponytail peeked out from inside. It was a girl with a smart and nimble appearance, around twenty years old, dressed in cheap clothes.
"I was sent by the headquarters to take over the branch office. Can we discuss it inside?" Kayla was eager to go inside.
"Sure, come in. I'm Hazel, in charge of administration, human resources, finance, cleaning, and other tasks here." Hazel introduced herself interestingly.
While they were talking, they quickly entered the office, and William promptly closed and locked the door from inside, warning Emilio not to make a sound.
"I'm Kayla. Are you the only one here?" Only after entering the office did Kayla realize that it was only Hazel there, but the small office was tidy and clean.
"The salary here is too low, the environment is poor, and there's no future. Who would stay here? If it wasn't for my dad being indebted to the Garcia family..."
" I'm leaving early too!!" Hazel pouted her lips, obviously very dissatisfied with this place.
"How much money does your dad owe us?" Kayla asked subconsciously.
"My dad owes over two hundred thousand dollars. I signed a five-year contract with this branch to help repay the debt for my dad." Hazel sighed. Her family had no money, so she could only rely on work to pay it off.
"In the future, you'll follow me, and I'll give you an extra salary! Also, starting tomorrow, we'll change our office location." Kayla felt that the environment here was too poor and the place was too small, making it impossible to develop.
"Kayla, you're so kind!! I'll be with you from now on. Where are we moving to?" Hazel blinked her eyes and asked eagerly.
"Which is the largest business building in the North District?" Kayla asked in return.
"Of course, it's FOR Mansion, 38 floors. It's considered a high-class business building in the entire New York." Hazel responded.
"Okay. From tomorrow onwards, we'll work there." Kayla thought that if she was going to do it, she might as well do it to the best of her abilities. She wanted the headquarters to see that she could make a mark in the North District too.
"Really? Kayla." Hazel couldn't believe it and asked cautiously. She had been here for many years and was most familiar with the situation in the North District. Developing the branch here would be extremely difficult.
"Of course it's true." Kayla replied firmly.
While Kayla and Hazel were discussing their future, Emilio's phone rang.
"Answer it, put it on speakerphone," William pulled Emilio aside and said in a deep voice, while signaling Kayla and Hazel to remain silent.
Kayla also sensed that something was wrong and held onto Hazel, telling her not to make any noise.
Emilio didn't dare to resist William and could only do as he said.
After answering the call, Diego's voice came through the phone.
"Emilio, we're here. Where is that guy, William, right now?"
Emilio didn't know how to answer and looked at William, who turned his eyes and whispered in his ear.
"Just say that William is on the rooftop, and ask them to go there." William needed time. As long as he could delay them until Antony and the others brought people over, everything would be fine.
While speaking, William took out a small knife and pressed it against Emilio's neck. If he didn't obey, he would die in the next second!
William wasn't bluffing this time. It was about the lives of the other two women in the office, and William had to act tough.
Emilio swallowed hard and had no choice but to comply.
"William, he's on the rooftop of the building. You can find him there." With that said, William hung up the phone abruptly.
"Good job. As long as you obediently follow my instructions, I won't harm you. And if you continue to perform satisfactorily, I can reward you with a hundred thousand dollars. That's far more than what Paul offers, isn't it?" William tried to coerce Emilio, exploiting his position as the middleman to deal with Diego and his group.
"Really?!" Emilio's expression changed when he heard about the hundred thousand dollars reward. It seemed like he was someone who could be easily swayed by money, lacking loyalty to anyone except for the one who paid the most.
"Of course it's true." William assured him and had Kayla retrieve ten thousand dollars from the safe in their branch office, handing it over to Emilio. He continued, "Listen carefully, once everything is done, I'll give you the remaining ninety thousand dollars."
As soon as Emilio received the money, his face lit up, and his attitude towards William completely changed!
Seeing this, William smirked. Now that this person could be bought, things would become even simpler. He planned to turn the tables and have Paul's security force taken care of right here.
