Chapter 270 Poor People Don't Deserve to Sit with Us

YC Hotel was one of the top hotels in Long Island. It was decorated extravagantly and offered impeccable service. The quality and level of the hotel were top-notch, and naturally, the prices were also exorbitant.

Only the wealthy and influential could come here, as ordinary people would be kicked out if they didn't meet the dress code.

When William and Sophia arrived, the parking lot was filled with top-of-the-line luxury cars. Even the Maserati could only be considered entry-level here.

"This place is really a gathering spot for the elite and celebrities!" William exclaimed.

Sophia stepped out of the car elegantly, showcasing her grace and elegance in this formal setting. Her refined demeanor was on full display.

"Whose property is YC Hotel?" William asked, feeling a bit rude and dull compared to Sophia's elegance.

"It's the Brown family's, right? Their HY Group specializes in this high-end industry. Let's go in!" Sophia said, walking in with her purse and high heels.

"It turns out to be our family's industry. We are really wealthy!" William couldn't help but marvel.

From the underground parking garage to the elevator, they encountered nothing but influential figures, not just from the business world but also from the art and entertainment industries. Without exception, they all had money.

They arrived on the eighth floor after taking the elevator and stepped into a lavishly decorated lobby.

Eighteen dazzling crystal chandeliers hung from the high ceiling, illuminating the entire lobby. Underneath the chandeliers, nearly fifty luxurious round tables were set up, adorned with exquisite fruit platters and a variety of fine wines and dishes.

"It looks like a dinner party combined with a show and donation." William seemed to understand the routine of this charity event.

In reality, this is just the surface. For those who come to such places, aside from watching performances and making donations, the main objective is to network with the upper-class from various fields. Making a donation is just a way to gain a good reputation.

That's why this charity event has also invited many well-known media outlets to come and cover it, aiming to provide exposure to these VIPs. At the same time, the amount they donate also helps enhance their corporate image.

After William and Sophia entered, a well-dressed and elegant waitress came over to greet them.

"Hello, Miss and Sir, please show me your invitation card!"

Sophia nodded and handed her the invitation card from her bag. The waitress quickly led the way and said, "Miss Smith, this way, please." She guided Sophia toward table number 38. It seemed that everyone at each table was assigned a specific seat.

The smaller the table number, the more prestigious the person sitting there. William could understand this point.

When they arrived at table number 38, William noticed that there were already four people seated. Two of them were celebrities, whom William recognized immediately since he was also part of that circle.

When they saw Sophia approaching, they greeted her with a nod and exchanged pleasantries.

However, one of the female celebrities seemed to dislike Sophia, as her greeting was quite perfunctory.

"William, sit next to me." Sophia said, pointing to the seat next to her.

Without thinking too much, William sat down, but he heard the female celebrity sitting across from him make a teasing remark with a hint of provocation.

"When did you get a companion? Is he your boyfriend?"

The way this female celebrity spoke was quite impolite.

Her name is Paige. With over 20 million fans, she is definitely not inferior to Sophia in terms of popularity.

"He is my bodyguard, William," Sophia replied politely.

"It's interesting how bodyguards are allowed at this kind of event," Paige said sarcastically, clearly targeting Sophia.

Paige disliked Sophia because she was supposed to be Tiffany's spokesperson initially. However, when it was time to sign the contract, she was suddenly replaced. This incident caused her to resent Sophia.

"Yeah, Miss Smith, having a bodyguard sitting here really lowers our worth, doesn't it?" said Kris, a male celebrity who was accompanying Paige.

"The invitation clearly allows one companion to accompany us to the gala. That's how the organizers have set it. What's your problem then?" Sophia was somewhat annoyed.

"But by having a bodyguard sit with us, doesn't it diminish our value? Let's hear what everyone else thinks," Kris said, glancing at the other two present.

"Yes, Miss Smith, just let your bodyguard stand by the wall. It's a charity event tonight, and everyone here is a big shot. It's unlikely that fans will come and bother you. Besides, there are security personnel here, who might even be more useful than your bodyguard," added a distinguished director named Todd, who was quite well-known in the industry. He was also a member of the Green family, one of Long Island's top-tier families.

"Sorry, William is the producer of 'Wilderness Life.' That should be a qualification enough to sit here." Sophia suddenly remembered William's position. After all, "Wilderness Life" was currently the number one variety show in terms of viewership, and any star would like to take part in it.

However, Sophia was being too naive. Paige was specifically targeting her. How could she easily let her go?

"So, he's the producer of 'Wilderness Life,' but what kind of background does he have? Is he rich? Or is he just a poor person without money or power?" Paige sneered once again.

"Paige, are you targeting me?" Sophia asked angrily.

"What? Did I hit the nail on the head? He is really a poor person with no money or power, huh? Such a person doesn't deserve to sit at our table, don't you all agree?" Paige turned her gaze toward the others.

"Yeah, Sophia, your companion isn't qualified to sit with us. I think you should be more self-aware and stick to your own kind," Todd belittled further.

"You..." Sophia wanted to argue with them, but William held her back and then smiled.

"I apologize, everyone. I have an invitation, but I forgot to bring it. Please excuse me. I will contact the organizers now and have them send another one to me."

William was speechless at their mocking remarks, so he asked Ralph, one of the organizers of the event, to arrange another invitation. Getting an invitation was a simple task for him.

"You, a poor person with no money or influence, think you can get an invitation? It's a joke! You probably don't know that to attend this charity event, one needs to have a wealthy background," Kris said coldly, with a hint of sarcasm.

Except for Sophia, everyone else at the table was waiting for William to make a fool of himself.
