Chapter 228 Girl, You Are a Good Person and Will Be Rewarded

The woman who fainted on the ground was wearing plain clothes, resembling those from an impoverished area, but upon closer inspection, her skin was well maintained. This woman was Cynthia, but she hadn't really fainted here; she pretended to faint to test Michelle's character.

After Michelle and Elisa approached her, they quickly helped her up.

"Ma'am, are you alright?" Michelle asked with concern.

Elisa saw that she was still unconscious, so she quickly pinched Cynthia's wrist. Only then did Cynthia let out a sigh of relief and wake up. Indeed, her acting skills were absolutely top-notch!

"Ladies, I feel dizzy and have chest pain. Could you take me to the hospital?" Cynthia requested, looking convincingly distressed.

"Hospital? Yes, let's go." Michelle felt worried seeing her in pain and turned to Elisa. "Elisa, can you bring the car over? We'll wait here for you."

"No need to drive. The hospital is just past the overpass. You can carry me across. Driving would take a detour," Cynthia said, pointing ahead and pretending to be out of breath.

"Okay then, I'll carry you there." Michelle nodded without overthinking it. There was indeed a hospital ahead, just a short distance after the overpass. However, Michelle was already weak and wearing high heels, making it a bit difficult for her to carry an adult on her back.

"Michelle, are you sure you can handle it?" Elisa asked worriedly, seeing how Michelle was struggling.

"I should be able to. Elisa, help me take off my high heels," Michelle said, immediately removing her high heels and standing barefoot on the ground. Without the heels, it became much easier to walk while carrying someone.

However, Elisa couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

"You're really kind and selfless." Cynthia felt somewhat satisfied when she saw Michelle barefoot, carrying her.

"It's nothing. Just hold on to me," Michelle said, laboriously carrying Cynthia toward the overpass. Once they crossed it, they would reach the hospital. It was not far; just around a kilometer. As long as she persisted, they would make it.

However, there were many small stones and dust on the ground. After only a few minutes, Michelle's fair feet became dirty, and sweat started to trickle down her forehead.

"Michelle, take a break. Drink some water." Elisa brought a bottle of mineral water and handed it to Michelle, her face filled with concern and tenderness.

"I'm thirsty too. Give me some water as well," Cynthia interjected before Michelle could respond.

"Let this lady drink first!" Michelle said and wiped the sweat off her forehead.

"Fine." Elisa reluctantly handed the water to Cynthia, who greedily drank it and then pretended to have trembling hands. As a result, the mineral water bottle slipped from her grasp and spilled all the water.

"I'm sorry, the water spilled!" Cynthia feigned an apology.

"Did you do it on purpose?" Elisa quickly picked it up but found the bottle empty.

"How could you accuse me of doing it on purpose? I felt dizzy and my hand shook a little, that's why it fell. It's not my fault." Cynthia pretended to be innocent.

"Elisa, let's not argue. Let's take the lady to the hospital first. We can drink water later." Michelle pursed her lips and continued carrying Cynthia on their way.

When they reached the overpass, Michelle couldn't go any further, so she stopped.

Cynthia was put down to rest for a while.

"Michelle, are you sure your feet are okay? Why don't we switch? Let me carry her instead!" Elisa said with concern.

"No, you don't have to. I want her to carry me." Cynthia pointed at Michelle.

"What's the difference if I carry you? Can't you see her feet are hurting and she's exhausted?" Elisa couldn't stand by anymore and retorted.

"Your words are giving me a headache. I can't take it anymore. We need to hurry! Take me to the hospital!" Cynthia pretended to hold her head and was about to fall to the ground.

"Are you okay? I'll carry you right away. Just hold on a little longer." Michelle couldn't bear it and stood up again. She gritted her teeth and carried Cynthia on her back.

Step by step, they walked forward. Michelle's feet grew more and more painful, and her face was covered in sweat. But she persevered, her only thought being to take this aunt to the hospital.

After half an hour, Michelle reached the entrance of the hospital. Her feet couldn't bear the pain any longer, and she stumbled and fell to the ground. Her hands touched the ground first, and the purple jade bracelet on her left wrist shattered upon impact.

Elisa came quickly and helped them up. When Michelle saw that the purple jade bracelet given to her by William was broken into two, she couldn't help but feel reluctant and heartbroken.

"Sorry, look at what happened to your bracelet because of carrying me. I'll compensate you with a new one! I promise it'll be better than this one." Cynthia didn't expect to have an accident and break her purple jade bracelet, making her feel guilty.

"What's the point of compensating? This was given to her by her boyfriend. Can a new one have the same meaning?" Elisa scolded Cynthia. It seemed like this person deliberately came to take advantage of Michelle. Making her walk all this way barefoot and not allowing anyone else to carry her, what kind of heart does she have?

"It's okay, it's not worth much. We're already at the hospital. Let me accompany you inside for the treatment." Michelle struggled to stand up from the ground and carefully put the broken purple jade bracelet into her bag.

"No need to go now. Suddenly, I feel clear-headed and my chest is no longer hurting. But thank you anyway." Cynthia stood up, looking refreshed and completely different from her previously sick appearance.

"Are you sure you don't need to go to the hospital?" Michelle asked again, concerned.

"No, I'm fine. You're a good person, and good people will be rewarded. I'll go back now and treat you to a meal another day." With that, Cynthia turned around and walked back the way they came.

"What kind of person is she? It's obvious she came to take advantage of you. You are too kindhearted. Look, you even ended up losing your own bracelet. You've had such bad luck, but luckily there's good karma. How's your foot? Is it still hurting?" Elisa said with great concern.

"My feet seem to have some blisters." Michelle wiped them.

With sweat dripping from her forehead, she said, "As long as she's fine, why bother about all these things?"

"Really, I admire you. Wait here, I'll bring the car over to pick you up." Elisa helped Michelle find a seat near the hospital entrance and gave her some instructions before turning to leave.

Late at night, Cynthia finally returned to Crown Villa in her car.

"Mom, where have you been all day?" William asked as soon as he saw Cynthia.

"On a visit," Cynthia replied briefly, without revealing who she had visited. "By the way, I'm leaving tomorrow morning!"

"So soon? I was planning to introduce you to Michelle. After meeting her, you will definitely like her. How about tonight? I'll invite her out for dinner together," William suggested anxiously.

"No need. She's just a girl from an insignificant family. But I can tell she genuinely likes you. I will make it up to her and give her a chance. Let's see if she can grasp it," Cynthia said meaningfully.

"What do you mean? What chance?" William felt confused.

"You'll understand later. I'm going to bed now. I have to catch an early bus tomorrow, or else I'll miss it," Cynthia said, disregarding William, and went straight upstairs to shower and sleep.

William sighed. He didn't understand what Cynthia meant. But soon, he found out. On the day Cynthia left New York, Michelle received a mysterious gift at noon- a job offer letter appointing her as the project manager for Long Island DQ Group, with a million-dollar annual salary and 5% shares in DQ Group, along with a rare emerald jade bracelet.

"What's going on here?!" Katharine felt perplexed seeing her daughter being hired by a big corporation as a project manager.

Even Noad, who was knowledgeable and experienced, was puzzled.

"DQ Group on Long Island is a multi-billion-dollar corporation. How could they randomly appoint Michelle, who has no project experience, as a project manager and offer a million-dollar salary and 5% shares?" Noad couldn't figure out their intentions.

"Dad, could this job offer letter be fake?" Michelle held the appointment letter in her hand, repeatedly reading it, hoping it would turn out to be fake. She didn't want to be separated from William and move to Long Island alone.

"It shouldn't be fake. This jade bracelet alone proves it's genuine," Noad said, playing with the jade bracelet that came in the gift box.

"This bracelet must be very valuable," Katharine remarked as she saw it.

Her eyes widened, and she quickly snatched the bracelet from Noad's hand, putting it on her own wrist.

"Mom, don't wear it yet. What if we have to return it?" Michelle quickly snatched the bracelet and placed it back into its original position.

"An annual salary of a million dollars plus a 5% stake! This 5% stake alone is worth at least a billion dollars. Why don't you want it? My daughter's value will immediately reach billions of dollars. Imagine how proud I'll be!" Katharine was elated to have another capital to boast about in the future.

"Mom, it's already gotten to this point, and you're still thinking about showing off." Michelle was on the verge of tears. Then she thought of William. He could definitely offer some advice. Her parents were of no help.

Having avoided her parents, Michelle hurried to her room and called William.

Upon receiving Michelle's call, William was taken aback. Suddenly, he remembered what Cynthia had said the night before she left, that she would compensate and offer an opportunity to Michelle. Could being appointed as the project manager at DQ Group be the opportunity? And was the 5% stake the compensation?

Thinking this, William quickly drove to Michelle's house.

As soon as William arrived, Michelle pulled him inside and showed him the employment letter.

"William, should I go or not?" Michelle was torn. She didn't want to be separated from William, but if he went with her, she wouldn't object.

"Why not? Once you're there, work hard." William thought of a certain possibility. Then he noticed a jade bracelet next to the employment letter. Suddenly, it seemed familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before.

"Was this bracelet delivered with the employment letter?"

"Yeah, my dad says it's genuine and expensive." Michelle was afraid of damaging it.

William picked up the bracelet and examined it under the light. When he saw a very fine red thread inside the jade, he was shocked. How could this bracelet be here?
