Chapter 10 Phone Number
In the hotel's private room.
Magnus had left, and Michael had rushed after him.
Now, it was just David and Juniper.
Juniper wasn't a fool; she could sense trouble brewing and quickly grasped her violin as if to leave. “David, I think I'll take my leave as well.”
She had barely reached the door when David, with a slight nod, signaled to a couple of bodyguards who blocked her exit.
David's roguish smirk surfaced as he taunted, “Miss Beaumont, did you not hear? Magnus has already handed you over to me.”
Juniper's hand, clutching the violin case, tightened.
She forced a calm smile, "What are you talking about? Mr. Blackwood himself said I'm his ex. An ex-girlfriend means Mr. Blackwood certainly has no right to 'give' me to anyone."
"Juniper, don't push your luck!" David's voice was languid, but his words were no joke.
Swallowing hard, Juniper turned to face the man, "What exactly do you want?"
"You tricked me into calling off our engagement back in the day. I can let bygones be bygones tonight. You're here to sing for cash, right? Take this shot, and you're free to go."
Juniper was puzzled, "Is it really that simple?"
Regardless of the potential trick, she had to drink it.
Only by drinking could she seize the chance to escape.
Before coming, Juniper, fearing she'd have to drink again, had preemptively taken some hangover and allergy pills.
So, she downed the shot without hesitation.
Tilting her head back, she finished it in one gulp.
Placing the empty glass upside down, not a drop left, she asked, "David, are we good now?"
David clapped twice, a hint of surprise in his eyes, "Didn't expect that from you, Miss Beaumont. You've got a no-nonsense side."
Juniper offered a polite, faint smile, "In that case, I'll take my leave."
But the two bouncers at the door stood firm.
"What's the meaning of this, David?"
He smirked, gazing at her with roving eyes, "Since Magnus is done with you, why not come with me? It's been six years, and I've realized people always want what they can't have. Especially when it's as appealing as you are, and especially after being with Magnus. It just makes me more curious."
Juniper suddenly felt her blood boiling, an unbearable searing through her veins.
She glanced at the glass, frowning, "What did you put in that drink?"
"Just a little something to liven things up."
With a wave of David's hand, the bouncers retreated.
Juniper stepped back, seething, "David! You're despicable."
"Juniper, you should be grateful I'm even considering 'used goods' like you. Do you have any idea how many women are dying to be with me? And here you are, with the opportunity, and you're not seizing it?"
Juniper felt nauseous, the urge to vomit clawing at her throat. “So, what does that make David? Don’t kid yourself, thinking that a guy who’s been with countless women like you is some prize. To me, you’re nothing!”
“You’re still talking back?” he sneered.
David’s grip on her wrist was ironclad as he slammed her against the round table, threatening to rip her dress apart.
Overwhelmed with humiliation, Juniper quivered with rage.
“Magnus despises anyone touching what he’s discarded, even if he doesn’t want it anymore! Aren’t you afraid of Magnus, David?” She hoped to frighten him off with the mention of Magnus’s name.
But David, known around X City as a playboy with nerves of steel, just laughed coldly and tapped her cheek. “You’re not still deluding yourself into thinking Magnus is going to come to your rescue, are you? Wake up, Juniper. More than possessiveness, what a man like Magnus detests is betrayal.”
Juniper’s face flushed with embarrassment and then turned pale... David had hit her right where it hurt the most.
Any semblance of resistance seemed futile, her body was succumbing to the drugs.
Tears brimmed in her eyes, a defeated sheen to them, as she pleaded softly, “Could you be gentle, David? I’m afraid of the pain.”
A smug smile curled on David’s lips. “Why couldn’t you have been this obedient from the start?”
Suddenly, Juniper wrapped one arm around his neck; as David’s guard dropped, her other hand found a crystal ashtray.
“Crash!” The ashtray smashed onto David’s head with a resounding thud!
He staggered, blood trickling down his forehead into his eyes, blurring his vision.
Seizing the moment, Juniper grabbed a steak knife from the table and dashed towards the door.
The bodyguards at the entrance were still clueless. Then, a furious shout from the room broke the silence: “What are you waiting for? Get her back here! Damn it… that woman... Agh... she hits hard!”
Under the veil of night, a sleek black Maybach was parked outside the hotel.
In the front seat, Michael was attempting to reason with Magnus, “Magnus, you know what kind of guy David is, the playboy, a real heartbreaker. If Juniper falls into his hands..."
“Are you concerned for her?” Magnus cut in, his tone icy.
"Maggie, I know Juniper wronged you, but you two had something real. I don’t want you to live with regrets," Magnus's friend cautioned with a tinge of concern.
"Just drive," Magnus commanded firmly, a cool edge to his voice.
Michael, feeling helpless, was about to start the car and pull away.
Juniper emerged from the hotel lobby, her clothes in disarray...
David's two bodyguards were hot on her heels!
Without a second thought, Juniper flung open the door of the sleek Maybach. Only Magnus could save her now.
She dove into the car and into Magnus's arms.
Forgetting her dignity and pride, she pressed her desperate, red lips against his. She unleashed all her allure, hoping to ignite a spark of desire in him.
Her eyes, brimming with tears and rimmed with crimson, pleaded desperately, "Magnus, please... please help me."
