Chapter 319 The Gift from Magnus
The car quickly arrived at a high-end private hospital in Southern City.
In the VIP ward, Christopher lay there weakly. After being in a coma for half a month, he looked much more haggard.
When Ronald and Juniper arrived with Jenny, Christopher's deep eyes fell on Juniper, instantly lighting up.
Juniper sensed it . "Mr. Abbott..."
Christopher struggled to raise his hand, motioning her to come closer.
Juniper held Jenny's hand and walked to him, squatted down by the bedside, and held Christopher's hand. "Mr. Abbott, do you have something to tell me?"
"Quinn... my... daughter..." After speaking, Christopher began to cough violently, his chest heaving intensely.
Ronald immediately raised the bed, helped Christopher up, and patted his back.
Suddenly, he coughed up a large amount of blood, which looked horrifying.
Jenny was scared, her voice trembling, "Doctor! Doctor!"
Juniper pressed the call button.
Jenny, who ran to the door to call the doctor, bumped into a pair of long, straight legs and almost fell.
Jenny covered her forehead, looked up, and was stunned. "Daddy!"
Juniper was worried about Christopher, but when she heard Jenny's loud "Daddy," she froze.
She slowly turned her head and was momentarily stunned when she saw that familiar figure. She stood there, motionless.
Magnus had already walked over with Jenny, explaining to Ronald and Juniper, "Christopher just took the antidote. What he coughed up was the poisonous blood, so it shouldn't be a big problem. However, the residual toxins in his body will take some time to be completely metabolized."
Ronald was slightly relieved. "How did you get the antidote?"
Magnus's gaze remained on Juniper as he said to Ronald in a calm voice, "You don't need to know that, but it did take a lot of manpower and resources."
Ronald stepped forward and grabbed Magnus's coat collar tightly. "Was getting engaged to Sophie also part of getting the antidote? Do you know that Juniper..."
Juniper interrupted, "Ronald, you take care of Mr. Abbott first. I have something to ask him."
Magnus followed Juniper out of the ward.
Jenny secretly leaned against the door frame, her big eyes staring at the situation.
Jenny thought curiously, 'Strange, why are Daddy and Mommy looking at each other but not talking?'
She put her little hand to her ear, trying to listen, but they really weren't saying anything!
On the bed, after Christopher coughed up the poisonous blood, he looked much clearer, his voice was hoarse. "Jenny... come to me."
Christopher's breath was very weak.
Jenny's eyes lit up when she heard this. She turned her small body to look at Christopher on the bed and pointed to herself, "Sir, are you calling me?"
Christopher nodded with a smile.
Jenny walked over, her big eyes staring at Christopher curiously. "Sir, you coughed up so much blood; does it hurt?"
Christopher shook his head. "It doesn't hurt."
His gaze was gentle and kind as he looked at Jenny, still in disbelief that he had such a big granddaughter.
In the cold corridor outside the ward, Magnus and Juniper stood face to face, silent for a long time.
Juniper opened her mouth, wanting to ask something, but found she didn't know where to start. She clenched her hand in her coat pocket and asked, "Was getting engaged to Sophie part of getting the antidote?"
Magnus admitted, "Yes."
Juniper swallowed hard, tears falling. She wiped them away, took a deep breath, and asked, "Why did you let Selina take my passport?"
Magnus replied, "The Shadow Syndicate has spies in Crestoria. Solara is the safest."
Juniper laughed bitterly, "On the way back to Southern City, I seemed to figure out a lot of things, but there are still many things I don't understand."
Magnus said, "Go ahead."
Juniper looked at him. "You went to great lengths to send me to Solara just to get the antidote for Christopher? I remember you had no dealings with Christopher. Why are you so..."
Magnus held a manila envelope. He handed the envelope to her, his voice low and tired, "This is a gift for you. Open it."
Juniper took it, opened the envelope, and a paternity test fell out. The test was between Christopher and her. Her eyes scanned the results, her eyes widening. The paternity test results showed that Christopher was her biological father. Juniper was clearly having a hard time processing this huge amount of information. Looking at the paternity test, her eyes were filled with shock and confusion.
Why had Lyra never told her about her background? A flood of questions exploded in Juniper's mind.
Magnus saw her trembling hands and wanted to hug her but held back. "Christopher's biological daughter has a light blue birthmark on her back. You have one too. Christopher's wife was a famous violinist with severe emphysema, just like you. Plus, this paternity test report, Juniper, you're his daughter."
She wasn't Alexander's daughter but Christopher's? Juniper was stunned for a long time, tears falling onto the paternity test report.
It felt like fate was playing a huge joke on her. Why was it only now that she learned about her background?
She sniffed and laughed, "What else don't I know?"
That smile was faint, not reaching her eyes.
Everything was a misunderstanding, but losing the child was real. Magnus pushing her away time and again, hiding the truth, was also real.
Juniper felt caught between illusion and reality, unable to distinguish between the two.
When Juniper asked this, Magnus was clearly taken aback. He looked into her eyes, having lied too many times, even if they were well-intentioned. Now, her trust in him had clearly collapsed, and this was the consequence of his actions.
Seeing him press his lips together in silence, Juniper suddenly asked, "When Jenny was kidnapped, I found it strange, but I was too worried about Jenny at the time. Plus, I trusted you too much then. Magnus, was that kidnapping really done by the Shadow Syndicate?"
He looked at her, silent for a long time.
Juniper understood, letting out a light laugh, "You even used Jenny?"
She clenched her fingers, her slender body trembling with disappointment.
Magnus knew that it would be hard for Juniper to open her heart and trust him again.
He didn't want to argue, only saying, "At that time, I just wanted to get you and Jenny to Solara as quickly as possible, away from the turmoil here... Juniper, I..."
Juniper's eyes were red and wet as she asked, word by word, "Did you also guide Mary's fans to insult me, just to force me to leave you?"
For a moment, Magnus couldn't speak. He suddenly realized how many terrible things he had done to force her to Solara.
He explained, "The breakup rumors at Urban Oasis Plaza were indeed spread by me. After they fermented, I didn't clarify the rumors about getting back together with Mary on purpose. But her fans insulting you was beyond my expectations."
Juniper questioned coldly, "Magnus, you repeatedly used such obsessive methods to force me to leave you, to leave the center of the storm. But do you know the price I paid for it?"
