Chapter 177 Gratitude

Ever since the last encounter at the hospital, she had a conversation with Juniper and Ophelia. After that, Juniper and Ophelia didn't spread the news about her pregnancy. Sinclair knew that when Juniper made a promise, she kept it. She was trustworthy.

Sinclair didn't hide anything and confessed, "I originally bought a ticket to go back to my hometown tonight. I was on my way to the train station when I had a hypoglycemic episode."

Juniper asked, "Going back to your hometown? Where are you from?"

Sinclair replied, "My hometown is Oakvale County."

Juniper had heard of Oakvale County. Although it was a small place, it had beautiful scenery and a great environment. "Oakvale County is very scenic."

Sinclair smiled. "Yes, if you and Mr. Blackwood have time, you can visit Oakvale County. I can host you."

Juniper asked, "Are you planning to go back to your hometown and never return?"

Sinclair looked at Juniper, her eyes gradually reddening, and said honestly, "To be honest, I don't know. But right now, I just want to go back home and rest for a while. I don't know what the future holds, but I just want to escape for a bit."

Magnus's gaze turned cold. "You're escaping, but what about the child? Are you going to abort it or keep it?"

Magnus's words were blunt, almost harsh.

Sinclair was clearly stung by his words and remained silent for a long time.

Juniper stepped in to ease the tension, patting Sinclair's arm to comfort her. "Don't mind him. He always talks like that. If you haven't made up your mind, take your time."

Magnus stood there, cold and indifferent.

He wasn't particularly sympathetic and didn't like to meddle in other people's business. But for some reason, Sinclair's behavior of hiding her pregnancy reminded him of Juniper. He subconsciously put himself in Michael's shoes, which made his words harsher.

Sinclair's attitude clearly indicated she had no intention of aborting the child.

So, she wanted to keep the baby.

Magnus threw out another question. "If you keep the baby, do you have the ability to raise it?"

Juniper had given birth to a child and also had to take care of Lyra, who was in a vegetative state. Under his pressure, she lost her job at the TV station and struggled for six years.

Now, Magnus still didn't dare to think deeply about how Juniper managed those six years.

It wasn't easy for Jenny to grow up so happily and cheerfully.

He had spent three years in prison. Although life was tough, he only had to endure it alone, with no attachments or responsibilities. He just had to hold onto his hatred. As a man, he wasn't that fragile.

Juniper didn't go to prison, but she had to take care of her family. Lyra and Jenny both needed care, and they all relied on Juniper's meager salary. With the elderly and the young, even a minor illness would make life immediately difficult.

The real torment wasn't just financial but also psychological. Being isolated and without support, if Juniper ever fell, Jenny and Lyra wouldn't survive. They had no ability to take care of themselves.

That kind of life wasn't much better than being in prison.

Magnus didn't know how Juniper got through it.

He never dared to ask or think about it.

He feared that if he asked, it would truly be the end for him and Juniper.

However, Magnus's questioning felt like a soul-searching interrogation, catching Sinclair off guard.

Juniper nudged Magnus's arm. "Say a little less."

Sinclair was already heartbroken. Asking these questions would only make her feel worse and serve no other purpose.

When people were heartbroken and helpless, they didn't want to hear reproaches or be asked difficult questions. They wanted comfort.

Juniper had been through it, so she understood.

Magnus gave Sinclair a cold look and said indifferently, "I suggest you inform Michael. Since the child is his, he has an obligation to take responsibility and a right to know about the child's existence."

Saying that, Magnus turned and left the hospital room.

Only Juniper and Sinclair were left in the room.

Juniper sat by her bed and explained for Magnus, "He always talks like that. Don't take it to heart. This is between you and Michael. We're just giving suggestions, but ultimately, it's up to you. No one else has the right to interfere."

Sinclair gratefully nodded at Juniper. "I understand. Thank you for saving me."

If it weren't for Juniper, she and the baby might not have made it.

Juniper said, "I saved you because I was a single mother once. I know it's not easy, Sinclair. You need to think it through. Although Magnus's words were harsh, they were true. Your situation with Michael is different from mine with Magnus. At least you two don't have deep-seated hatred. Michael would be happy to know you're pregnant."

Deep-seated hatred?

Sinclair knew some things about Juniper and Magnus but not the full story.

Last time, she heard Patricia mention something about Juniper's mother's death, which made her suspicious. But since she didn't hear clearly, she didn't dare to make any assumptions.

Although Patricia was detestable, Sinclair couldn't accuse her of being a murderer without evidence.

Juniper had saved her, and she was grateful.

Sinclair looked at Juniper and asked, "Juniper, when do you and Mr. Blackwood plan to get married?"

Juniper said, "We're not. Right now, I'm just Jenny's mom, and he's just Jenny's dad. We have no plans to get married, and we won't be together."

Juniper didn't hide anything. After all, once the one-month period was over, they would part ways, and everyone would know. There was no point in hiding it.

Sinclair wondered if it was because of her mother's death.

Sinclair had only heard Patricia say that Juniper could never be with Magnus because of her mother's death.

But Sinclair didn't know the details.

She didn't want to ask further since it was a private matter; asking too much would be intrusive.

Moreover, Sinclair was only suspicious and had no concrete evidence. She couldn't deliberately sow discord.

A bottle of nutrient solution was soon finished.

Juniper pressed the bell, and a nurse quickly came to change it.

It was almost eleven o'clock.

Sinclair felt embarrassed to take up more of Juniper's time. "I'm feeling much better now. You don't need to stay with me. I can manage on my own. If you and Mr. Blackwood have things to do, you can go."

Juniper had intended to leave, not because she didn't want to stay with Sinclair, but because she was worried Magnus might get impatient outside.

Magnus had always been indifferent to unrelated people and matters. He had some sympathy but not much.

But Sinclair's condition didn't look promising.

Juniper remembered her own experience, being pregnant and having stomach pains in the midnight, reaching for the phone to call an ambulance herself.

Juniper was also alone, lying in the hospital getting an IV.

Halfway through, she needed to use the bathroom, but there was no one to help her. The nurses were busy and couldn't attend to her. She had to carry the IV bottle to the bathroom herself, trying to unbutton her pants with one hand, almost crying in frustration.

So, she completely understood Sinclair's feelings now.

If she really left, Sinclair would feel even more helpless.

Juniper said, "You only have three bottles of medicine. This is the second one. If you need to use the bathroom later, I can help you. I'll wait until you're done with the IV. The trains have stopped running for the night, so you can't go back to your hometown tonight. Where do you plan to stay after the IV?"

Juniper's tone was casual, as if lending a helping hand wasn't a big deal.

But because of this, Sinclair's tears started to flow.

She finally understood why Michael liked Juniper for so long and couldn't forget her.

Because Juniper was so kind.

So kind that even she, as a woman, liked Juniper.

Sinclair said, "I... I'll book a hotel."

Juniper said, "Then after the IV, we'll take you to the hotel. You can go back to your hometown tomorrow."

Sinclair said, "Juniper, thank you, really."

Sinclair was truly grateful to Juniper.

Juniper handed her a tissue. "Stop crying. Bad emotions are not good for the baby."

Once Sinclair calmed down a bit, Juniper left the room to talk to Magnus.

But Magnus was no longer outside.

Paul said, "Mr. Blackwood went to the smoking room."

Juniper walked towards the smoking room on that floor and ran into an old acquaintance.

"William?" Juniper said.

William was stunned, standing there with surprise in his eyes. "Juniper, you're alive!"
