Chapter 71 Do You Dare Compete with Magnus for Juniper?

Jennifer had to stay in the hospital for a few days, and Juniper went home to fetch some clothes to bring back.
Over the past couple of days, Jennifer had been over the moon because her parents were keeping her company.

It seems that the daytime excitement wore her out, leading her to fall asleep quickly at night.

Juniper gazed at her child's peacefully sleeping face and let out a gentle sigh.

She pulled out a notebook and a pen from her bag and crossed off the first wish on her list.

It was highly unlikely that Magnus would ever join her to see the serene ocean views.

He had already found out about Jennifer's existence and had taken custody of her.

Now that she had no "secrets" to use against Magnus, she had nothing left to leverage him with.

But then again, who goes through life without a regret or two?

The door to the hospital room opened, and Magnus returned.

Juniper quickly closed her notebook and stuffed it back into her bag.

In her rush to hide the notebook, she forgot about her phone, which was still lit up.

Magnus immediately noticed the glowing screen. She was browsing through job-hunting apps.

Juniper was taken aback and became aware of this herself.

After all, Magnus was also her boss. Looking for a new job under her boss's nose on a job-hunting app did seem a bit odd.

"Umm, I was just casually looking. Sales isn't my strong suit. I really want to return to my original field in broadcasting and hosting," she explained.

His eyes were frosty, but his expression remained unfazed. "You don't have to explain to me. I've told you you're free now. Where you decide to work is your business, and you don't have to report to me."

"Once Jennifer is discharged, I'll immediately get back to work. And until I find a new job, I will treat my current position with the utmost respect."

Magnus didn't respond.

The man was always cryptic and sparing with his words.

Juniper didn't plan on saying anything more.

After a while, he suddenly asked, "Jennifer will be discharged next Wednesday. Do you have any plans?"

Juniper felt her mood plummet.

"I'll explain everything clearly to her, rest assured, Mr. Blackwood. This won't drag on for too long."

Dragging it out would do no good for her or Jennifer.

During the weekend, Michael dragged Patricia to the hospital to apologize.

"Magnus, Juniper, I've already scolded Patricia over the past few days. She definitely did something wrong. However you want to handle it, I've got no complaints."

Patricia stood there, biting her lip, clearly coerced by Michael and brimming with reluctance.

Out of consideration for Magnus's presence, she swallowed her pride.

"Magnus, I acted impulsively, but my intentions were good. It was all for you. I was afraid that Juniper was deceiving you, which is why I went ahead and brought the child to the hospital for a paternity test."

Magnus wasn't buying her excuses, and he asked sternly, "Are you here today to make excuses or to apologize?"
Patricia twisted her fingers in frustration.

Juniper had just slapped her hard twice, enough to embarrass her thoroughly, and she was still being asked to apologize with a bowed head.

"Sorry, Magnus."

If she had to apologize, it would only be to Magnus.

As for Juniper? She wasn't worthy.

The man sat there, apparently not willing to forgive, and said, "Jennifer was the one who got frightened. You should apologize to Jennifer."

Patricia looked at the little brat on the hospital bed.

Apologizing to a little brat was going to cost her her dignity.

And this brat was Juniper's child, no less!

Patricia stood there, unable to speak.

Juniper said coldly, "Then go. A reluctant apology means nothing."

But Patricia knew that if she didn't apologize today, she would never be able to face Magnus again.

She couldn't afford to lose Magnus.

Swallowing her resentment and reluctance, she looked up at Jennifer and said, "I'm sorry, I made a stupid mistake. Can you forgive me?"

Jennifer pursed her lips, staring at the bad woman, and said flatly, "No."

"You—"

Patricia was about to lose her temper.

Michael grabbed her arm, stopping her.

Magnus suddenly spoke up, "Making a mistake and apologizing is your duty, but the other party has the right to refuse forgiveness. Patricia, I'm not holding you responsible because of your brother's sake. If there's a next time, even your brother's influence won't help."

The man's tone was measured and firm but filled with a superior's intimidating presence.

Patricia hung her head, not daring to step out of line again.

Michael said, "Magnus, thank you for understanding Patricia. I'll make sure to keep a closer eye on her and stop her from acting rashly in the future."

Michael and Patricia left the hospital.

Once outside, Patricia reverted to her true self, barking at Michael, "You see? That woman and Magnus have a child. Juniper will undoubtedly use that child to cling to Magnus desperately! Michael, you've ruined my happiness and your own!"

"Patricia, what are you talking about? Get in the car. We're going home."

"I'm not going back with you! To get lectured again, right? You're always telling me to be decent and stop liking Magnus. What about you, Michael? Don't you also fancy your brother's lady?"

"Patricia, shut up!"

Michael's volume suddenly rose as he sternly reprimanded her.
Patricia was far from intimidated. She retorted with a sneer, "What's the matter, struck a nerve, and now you're losing your cool? If you like Juniper so much, why don't you go after her? Why let her cling to Magnus like a burr? Go on, sweep her off her feet!"

Michael furrowed his brows at her. "Patricia, how could you turn into this? Magnus isn't right for you. I've told you so many times. He only sees you as a sister, Patricia. You need to stop fooling yourself."

If she continued down this path, Patricia was going to lose her mind.

"Me? Fooling myself? What about you, claiming you wouldn't covet your friend's girl, yet you lose all self-control every time you look at Juniper? Michael, you're just a coward, way more hypocritical than me! I like Magnus, and I'll fight for him! Do you have the guts to compete with Magnus for Juniper?"

"You've truly lost it!"

Michael grabbed her arm, trying to shove her into the car. "Get in, we'll talk at home!"

"I'm not going back!"

Patricia wrenched her arm free. "Michael, save your lectures! What era are we in that you expect me to be so selfless? I'm pursuing the one I love. What's wrong with that? Are Magnus and Juniper married? Are they even engaged? Magnus is single, and going after him is perfectly justifiable, both legally and morally!"

"Magnus made his feelings quite clear just now. He's not into you! Patricia, you could be with someone who loves you. What's the point in chasing someone who doesn't feel the same? You don't understand Magnus. If he doesn't like you, doesn't willingly let you control him, you'll never be able to handle him!"

"Why would I want to control him? All I want is to marry Magnus. Whatever he asks, I'd be willing to do! Brother, help me. Chase after Juniper. If she's with you, Magnus will surely give her up. Then, you'll get what you want, and my dream will come true. Isn't that a good deal?"
