Chapter 248 What Exactly Did I Steal from You?

Magnus held her left hand, his thumb gently rubbing the plain silver ring on her ring finger.

This ring was returned to him by Juniper right here at the Sherlock Valley Hotel more than a year ago.

Later, she jumped into the sea. After being depressed for more than half a year, he locked everything related to her in his study drawer.

He looked down at Juniper in his arms, shifting the topic away from the gunshot wound, and asked, "Why are you wearing it again? Didn't you return it to me before?"

Juniper, having her thoughts seen through, felt somewhat embarrassed, especially when she wasn't sure if he wanted to continue the relationship as she did.

She instinctively shrank her hand back, putting it under the blanket, but said matter-of-factly, "You told me that anything you give me would be mine. So what's the issue with me wearing my own stuff?"

A playful glint flashed in his eyes. "But you took it from my safe. Juniper, doesn't that count as theft?"

"Compared to it, you're better than I am."

With that, she turned over and pulled the blanket over her head, covering herself completely.

Juniper was sensitive. She could feel Magnus's reticence and sensed that he didn't want to continue the relationship like she did. In fact, he wanted to push her away.

It was only because she cried that he temporarily softened.

Or perhaps, after a man passively had a relationship with you, he might pretend to be patient and caring for a while, even if it was just an act, to avoid being accused of being heartless.

But this would disappear completely by the next morning.

Because his sense of morality and conscience wouldn't last long, with an effective period of at most forty-eight hours.

After all, having sex twice, even if it was pretending, he would coax her.

Tonight, Juniper was the one who initiated it.

Magnus had explicitly stated he wouldn't be responsible for her, and she knew tonight might be their last intimate moment.

But when it came to feelings, one might have understood it intellectually and even accepted it to some extent, but whether it truly resonated with his heart and allowed him to move on was another story.

It was definitely sad.

She had mustered a lot of courage to take that step, but he had retreated several steps because of it.

She lay with her back to him, biting her hand, feeling a heavy weight in her chest.

Magnus turned over and tugged at her blanket with his large hand. "What did I steal from you?"

There was a moment of silence.

"Are you asleep?"He asked again.

Juniper deliberately didn't respond.

Seeing her wrapped up like a cocoon, Magnus chuckled, reached out, and turned off the light in the room.

"Goodnight."

With that, Magnus lay down, seemingly falling asleep as well.

In the darkness, Juniper, still angry, slowly poked her head out from under the blanket, breathing in the cool air, which calmed her down a bit.

She was just about to turn her head to see if he was asleep when she felt a warm breath by her ear. Magnus, with his dark eyes open, whispered, "Have you heard of the haunted stories in hotels?"

Juniper's heart skipped a beat.

With his words, whether it was real or just psychological, she instantly felt the room become much more eerie.

She clutched the blanket tightly, clearly scared, but her eyes couldn't help but scan the corners of the room. "Those are just ghost stories made up online to get clicks. How could you believe them?"

Magnus looked at her leisurely, a slight curve on his lips. "You don't believe it?"

"Yes."

He teased. "You don't believe in ghosts, but you believe in God?"

She turned her head, and their eyes met.

Feeling awkward, Magnus said with a straight face, "I'm quite scared. How about you hug me?"

Juniper quickly hugged him.

Holding him, her eyes still darted around the room, and she asked in a low voice, "Have you stayed in a hotel like this before? Have you encountered any paranormal events?"

She read those discussions online, not knowing if they were true.

He looked down at her, his thin lips close, his voice faint. "Yes, there really was a ghost walking around the bedside at midnight."

Juniper was so frightened that she quickly snuggled into his arms. "Really?"

"Yes, really."

This was too terrifying.

Juniper quickly pulled her feet back , her toes curling on the sheet.

Both scared and angry, she grabbed his arm, her fingers digging into his muscles, glaring at him. "Magnus, why are you telling me ghost stories in the middle of the night?"

"I'm scared too. Hold me tighter?" Magnus smiled.

His tone was so calm and steady, not a hint of fear.

"Liar!"

But Juniper still obediently held him tighter because she was genuinely scared.

After having sex twice, she hadn't gone to wash up, feeling sticky and uncomfortable. But now, after hearing about the haunted hotel, she didn't dare get out of bed.

"Magnus, I want to go to the bathroom to wash up."

"Go ahead."

Juniper bit her lip. "Didn't you say you're afraid of ghosts? If I go to the bathroom, won't you be scared alone in bed?"

He looked at her with a smile. "I'm not scared."

Juniper fell silent.

Magnus raised an eyebrow. "Are you scared? It's not impossible for me to accompany you to the bathroom, but you just said that I'm better at theft than you. What exactly did I steal from you, Juniper?"

Juniper just stared at him. The emotions that had been diverted by the ghost story suddenly came flooding back, and the tears that had stopped now welled up again.

Her eyes gradually turned red.

She said coldly, "After I returned to Southern City, you secretly following me and Ronald right?"

"Yes."

"Is your behavior any more honorable than me taking back my own things from your safe?"

He lowered his eyes, tugged at the corner of his lips, and said with a hint of helplessness in his voice, "I'm worse."

Juniper wiped her tears and sniffled. "You ended our relationship early and let me to leave the Imperial Capital. So I went back to Southern City. After that, I thought I hadn't disturbed you anymore. Since we agreed to separate, why did you come to Southern City and follow me and Ronald? You saved me, why didn't you admit it? Why did you lie to me? And when I chased after you, why did you disappear? Now that you're back alive, I'm probably the last one to know, right? Looking back, you're Robert's best friend. If you had died, he wouldn't have reacted so calmly. He must have known you were alive all along, right?"

She continued,"Magnus, you said you don't like indecisiveness. So after returning to Southern City, I held back and didn't bother you. But you didn't keep the agreement. I had already gritted my teeth to give you up. It was you who rekindled the connection. You knew that if you came to Southern City to find me, I wouldn't be able to resist. That night, I went to the hospital to find you, but you had just left. I drove out to chase you. When I called to ask if you wanted to see me, I was actually right across the street. I saw you."

Juniper poured out a lot of words in one breath.

He listened quietly the whole time, until this sentence, when he was taken aback.

He hadn't expected that on that night in Southern City, Juniper would go to the hospital to find him, nor had he expected that when she called him, she was right across the street watching him.
