Chapter 122: Mother and Daughter Meet
Juniper turned around and saw the newcomer, her eyes widening in astonishment. Before she could react, the other person tightly embraced her!
Her bag fell to the ground. "Juniper! You're not dead! You're alive! Do you know how much I've missed you this past year? Where have you been?"
Ophelia, excited and teary-eyed, kept asking. Juniper raised her hand and slowly hugged her back. "Ophelia, long time no see."
Ophelia looked at her and asked, "Magnus guessed right. You are Harper Beaumont, aren't you?"
She nodded and replied truthfully, "Yes, I didn't expect to be found while hiding, but it's okay. I was planning to see you guys soon anyway. Seeing you now, for some reason, I feel relieved. By the way, why are you here?"
"Magnus told me, he asked me to come to this hotel tonight to wait for Harper Beaumont. Where is he?"
Ophelia looked around but couldn't see Magnus.
Ronald said, "Magnus should have left by now. It's hard to say for a while. Ophelia, why don't you come upstairs too? We can talk in more privately there."
The three of them entered the hotel.
In room 668, Juniper handed a bottle of water to Ophelia. Ophelia sat on a chair, and Juniper sat on the edge of the bed. Ophelia reached out and pinched her face to convince herself that this was all real. It seemed like she was still in shock.
"You're really not dead. Juniper, am I dreaming?"
Juniper pinched her thigh.
Ophelia yelled in pain, "Ouch! Not so hard!"
Juniper laughed. "Now you know it's real, right?"
The two looked at each other, both with red eyes from laughing. Ophelia hugged her.
"Tell me, what happened to you this past year?"
Juniper replied, "Do you want to stay tonight? I'll borrow you for a night from Robert."
"Sure, but I didn't bring a change of clothes. You don't mind, do you?"
"I brought some, you can wear mine."
They had similar body shapes and used to wear each other's clothes often.
Ronald, watching Juniper's genuinely happy expression, seemed a bit dazed. It was probably the first time he had seen Juniper so joyful. Perhaps she really missed everything in Imperial Capital this past year. She missed her child, her best friend, and maybe even Magnus.
Seeing the two girls about to have a deep conversation, Ronald tactfully said, "You two chat, I'll be in the room across the hall. Call me if you need anything."
After Ronald left the room and closed the door, Juniper and Ophelia looked at each other and smiled again. "Juniper, you're alive, it's great."
"It's also great to come back and see you, Ophelia. You've become even more beautiful."
Ophelia looked at her with concern. "But why have you lost so much weight?"
"I was sick, I was undergoing treatment for almost a year."
"What's wrong with your?"
"Emphysema, but I'm much better now."
The two sat side by side on the bed, exchanging words as if they were trying to say everything that had been left unsaid in the past year. After chatting for a few hours, Juniper suddenly said, "Ophelia, can you help me with something?"
Ophelia guessed what she wanted. "You want to see Jennifer but you don't want to see Magnus, right?"
Juniper nodded.
"Alright, I'll bring Jennifer out to see you tomorrow. She'll be thrilled to see you! She probably never dreamed that her admired and beloved Harper Beaumontis actually her biological mother."
On a summer night in Imperial Capital, the rain and wind came suddenly. The raindrops, as big as beans, hit the skylight and windshield. Magnus, sitting in the car, seemed lost. His eyes and brows showed a sense of desolation.
He thought this time he would surely find her. But in the end, it was another disappointment. Harper Beaumontturned out not to be Juniper.
Magnus leaned back in the car seat and slowly closed his eyes. The phone rang for a long time before he composed himself enough to answer.
It was the landline number of Royal View.
After answering, Jennifer on the other end asked, "Daddy, where are you? Why aren't you coming home?"
"I'll be back soon."
"Hurry back, it's stormy outside, and I'm a little scared. It's pouring, did you bring an umbrella? Should I come out to the yard to meet you?"
"No, stay in your room, I'll will be back soon."
"Okay, Daddy, drive safely."
"Alright."
After hanging up the phone, Magnus started the car. In the curtain of rain, the black Maybach drove extremely fast. A large truck with hazard lights on came from the opposite direction. For a moment, Magnus, as if in a trance, thought about driving the car into it.
Jennifer's innocent voice echoed in his ears. "Daddy, I'm scared. Don't leave me, okay?"
Jennifer's innocent face appeared before his eyes. He gripped the steering wheel tightly and suddenly slammed on the brakes! A sharp screech of tires against the road pierced the night.
The next morning, Ophelia arrived at Royal View. Magnus and Jennifer were sitting at the dining table, having breakfast. Jennifer leaned forward and caught sight of Ophelia.
Ophelia entered the room and said, "Good morning, Jennifer. How about I take you out to play today?"
At the mention of going out to play, Jennifer immediately became excited. "Where are we going?"
"We're going shopping. You had your eye on a little dress last time, and I'm taking you to buy it today!"
Jennifer was thrilled at the idea and turned to her father. "Daddy, can I go?"
Over the past year, Ophelia had often come to Royal View to take Jennifer out to play. Magnus, without suspicion, replied casually, "Be careful when you're out, don't stay out too late, and go easy on the ice cream."
"Got it!" Jennifer changed her shoes, took Ophelia's hand, and happily skipped away.
Juniper was already seated at KFC, waiting for them.
When Ophelia brought Jennifer in, she pointed toward Juniper. "Jennifer, who do you see over there?"
Jennifer looked over and widened her eyes in astonishment. "Mom!"
Juniper also spotted her. She stood up, walked quickly over, and squatted down to embrace Jennifer tightly. "Jennifer."
The mother and daughter hugged for a long time before Juniper reluctantly let go.
Jennifer couldn't believe it, staring at her, she tentatively touched Juniper's face, "Mom, is it really you?"
Juniper, with tears in her eyes but a smile on her face, said, "Do you want to pinch me?"
Jennifer hesitantly pinched Juniper's face. "Ophelia, Mom is really alive!"
Ophelia chuckled, "Let's not stand here, let's find a place to sit and talk."
Juniper stood up and reached out to the little one. Jennifer hesitated for a few seconds, then raised her hand and held hers. Juniper tightly grasped the soft little hand. Her heart was overwhelmed. Seeing Jennifer again, she was truly content.
