Chapter 369 What If He Proposes?
                    In Skyville.
It wasn't until she returned to the hotel in the evening that Juniper saw the message.
She had been overseeing the production line at the factory all day and had no time to check her phone.
Now she finally had a break and replied to Ophelia's message.
[What's up?]
Ophelia seemed to be on her phone and quickly replied: [The editor-in-chief wants me to interview Thomas, damn it! I feel like quitting! But I'm broke!]
Juniper was suspicious. [What about Robert's card? He won't let you use it?]
Ophelia replied: [I gave it back to him, damn it! I was afraid of getting divorced and having to pay him back, so I stopped using it! When I used his card, I had no self-control! Once I checked the bills, I was scared to death. I only make $8,000 a month, but I could spend $80,000 a month on his card! It's true, when it's not your own money, you don't feel it at all! If you're not careful, six figures can be gone in a month.]
Seeing the word "divorce," Juniper's brow furrowed.
She immediately called Ophelia.
When the call connected, Juniper asked, "Are you and Robert really planning to divorce? Won't his grandfather interfere?"
Robert's grandfather, although retired, still held significant influence and could easily intervene.
Ophelia complained, "His grandfather only pushes us to have kids. I don't know much else; we don't interact much. But Robert and I have agreed to divorce."
"Have you really thought it through, or are you just saying it out of anger?"
Ophelia was silent for a moment, then suddenly stammered, "Juniper, do you think... it's weird and bizarre for two people planning to divorce to suddenly, you know, do that?"
Juniper didn't catch on, "What?"
"Have sex."
Juniper took a sip of water and choked, "Who initiated it?"
Ophelia thought for a while about last night's situation, her face heating up, "He did. He said after twenty times, he'd sign the divorce papers."
Juniper felt something was off and warned, "Could he be tricking you?"
Ophelia felt troubled, "But if I don't agree, we can't get divorced. Now the cooling-off period for divorce has been extended. God, why is it so hard to get a divorce?"
Juniper had never been married and hadn't paid much attention to the cooling-off period for divorce.
Ophelia continued, "I looked up the conditions for divorce. If one party doesn't agree, you can't get divorced. Unless there's infidelity or domestic violence."
Juniper thought for a moment and said, "Didn't you say Mr. Brown cheated before?"
"But I don't have concrete evidence. Last time he and Riley were photographed entering and leaving a hotel, I asked a lawyer, and that can't be used as evidence of infidelity, let alone in court. Unless there are specific chat records or intimate photos."
Juniper didn't want to push them to divorce and only asked, "If you do get divorced, what are your plans? Thomas is back; are you planning to go back to him?"
Ophelia was silent for a long time, her voice heavy, "I haven't really thought about it in detail, but this marriage was orchestrated by my parents. Robert and I were both unwilling. It started absurdly and shouldn't continue. But he's invested a lot of money in the Perez Group over the past three years, and I don't have the money to pay him back. He probably feels resentful and wants to squeeze something out of me as repayment."
That was why there was this absurd deal of twenty times.
Juniper felt a headache coming on. How was this more complicated than her situation with Magnus?
She and Magnus didn't have the shackles of marriage; at least they were free to come and go.
Ophelia and Robert were trapped in their marriage, entangled like two caged beasts, trying to climb out, but there were too many people around them preventing their escape.
Like Ophelia's parents, especially Patrick, who was so snobbish. If he knew Ophelia wanted a divorce, he would be the first to disagree.
Marriage seemed easy to enter but hard to exit.
Juniper asked, "Ophelia, do you really not like Robert at all?"
Ophelia was in the study making the call, thinking no one was home. She was also organizing her interview notes and found it inconvenient to hold the phone, so she put the call on speaker.
Robert had just returned and was walking to the study door when he heard Juniper's question.
He stopped in his tracks.
Ophelia thought for a long time but didn't respond.
She couldn't say she loved Robert. Her love had been exhausted five years ago in her breakup with Thomas.
But to say she didn't like Robert at all seemed insincere.
Robert was good-looking, and for someone who cared about appearances, it was hard not to like him at all, right?
At least physically, she didn't reject him.
Juniper knew she couldn't answer, so she changed the question, "What about Thomas? Do you still have feelings for him?"
When talking to Juniper, Ophelia was always honest and unreserved.
She said, "A building that took so long to construct, even if it collapses in an instant, I keep clearing the debris, but inevitably there are remnants. The bricks piled up too much, and even though I haul them away truckload by truckload, there are still traces of its existence."
Those tiny specks of dust, she swept again and again.
But in the narrow corners, it was hard to clean thoroughly.
She couldn't say she still loved him, but her heart wasn't entirely clean either.
Juniper asked, "If he left back then because of some unspeakable reason, would you be willing to forgive him?"
Ophelia took a deep breath.
No one had ever asked her that.
So, she had never thought about it.
Juniper's question caught her off guard.
But Ophelia didn't hesitate for a moment, "I don't think I can forgive him."
Maybe because some feelings, once past, change in nature.
Even if there are remnants of the collapsed building in her heart.
They talked for a long time.
The divorce issue remained unresolved.
Ophelia changed the subject. "By the way, you haven't told me when you're coming back to Imperial Capital?"
Speaking of this, Juniper told her about recent events.
Ophelia was shocked, "So, you're rich now?"
"Have you ever seen a rich woman doing manual labor in a factory?"
"This is training and forging before inheriting the family business! Oh my God, my dream has come true. My friend has become rich, so what do I have to fear?"
Juniper laughed, "If you get divorced, when I have money, I'll open a restaurant or hotel in Imperial Capital, and you can help me manage it."
"Deal! I'll rely on you!"
Ophelia thought for a moment and said, "Wait, if that's the case, wouldn't Magnus have to be a stay-at-home husband if he wants to marry you?"
"We don't have any plans to get married for now."
Ophelia didn't believe it, "Just because you don't have plans doesn't mean Magnus doesn't. What if he proposes in a few days?"
Juniper was stunned.
