Chapter 244 Prayer

"Magnus wrapped himself in explosives to save you. How skilled do you think he had to be to dodge death?" Robert said.

Juniper stubbornly replied, "What if the explosives were fake? Just to throw off the enemy."

"But the yacht explosion was real. Juniper, don't overthink it. Right now, the most important thing is to get your head straight and protect SY for Magnus. Jenny needs you too. You gotta get strong, fast."

Robert remained tight-lipped about Magus's secret.

Juniper didn't want to believe it, but she couldn't find any proof that Magnus was still alive.

If he were alive, why hasn't he shown up?

Could he have lost his memory like Sinclair? But if he had amnesia, how would Magnus remember she loved cappuccino?

She tried to find evidence that Magnus was still alive, but she quickly dismissed it.

Juniper's eyes were dull and lifeless. "Can you and Ophelia help me take care of the kids for a day tomorrow?"

"Where are you going? Juniper, don't do anything crazy." Robert was worried.

She gave a helpless smile and said, "Don't worry, I'm not gonna do anything crazy. I just want to go to the church in Sherlock Valley. I need to ask God if Magnus is still alive."

When people were desperate but didn't want to give up, they often placed their hopes in the unknown.

She remembered when she was six and suddenly had a high fever. Lyra took her to the hospital. But after all the fuss, the fever kept coming back, and numerous tests couldn't find the cause.

Lyra was anxious and heartbroken. She didn't know where she heard it from, but she went to the church every day to pray for divine protection, believing it would keep her from getting sick.

Whether it was really divine intervention or some kind of psychological suggestion, within a few days, her fever indeed subsided.

Later, she chatted with Ophelia and mentioned it by chance. Ophelia widened her eyes and said that when she experienced the same.

So Juniper thought, 'If you believe, it exists; if you don't, it doesn't.'

The next day at Sherlock Valley Church, weak sunlight filtered through the stained glass windows, casting mottled light and shadow on the golden altar. Juniper knelt before the prayer bench, clasped her hands, closed her eyes, and prayed silently.

A deep voice sounded behind her, "Miss, is something troubling or unsettling you recently?"

Juniper didn't turn around, just knelt there and said softly, "I want to know, is it true that sincerity can make anything possible in this world?"

The priest stepped forward, carefully observing her, a look of shock and relief flashing in his eyes. "Do you remember me?"

"Yes, it's been a long time."

The first time she came was more than a year ago.

At that time, she knelt here, almost devoid of the will to live. The priest, seeing her despair, had comforted her.

When someone was on the brink of giving up, a few comforting words from another could be a great kindness.

Juniper naturally remembered.

The priest sighed. "You're still alive. Fate works in mysterious ways. It seems Mr. Blackwood's prayer really did come true."

"Mr. Blackwood? You mean..."

"On the day of your accident, Mr. Blackwood braved the heavy rain to come to the church from the mountain, praying for your safety. His prayer is still preserved. Would you like to see it?" the priest asked.

Juniper nodded eagerly.

After a moment, the priest found the prayer and handed it to Juniper.

"This is Mr. Blackwood's prayer."

Juniper took the prayer and opened it, page by page.

Every page was filled with Magnus's handwriting, and it was all about her safety.

She gently traced the handwriting with her fingertips, her heart aching, and her eyes gradually welling up with tears.

The priest said, "That day, Mr. Blackwood knelt in the rain. I asked him what he was praying for. He said he was praying for someone's safety. I asked if he was willing to pay any price, even his life. Do you want to know his answer?"

Juniper's tears fell on the prayer, but she smiled. "I don't need to know how he answered you because he has already exchanged his life for mine."

Magnus used his own life to ensure her safety.

Was this a form of fulfillment?

Life for life was a cruel fate for the one who survived.

The priest clasped his hands together and sighed. "God bless. Mr. Blackwood's strong sense of loyalty might be what gets him through this."

"Are you comforting me?" Juniper asked.

"That day, I also comforted him in this way. But now, you are safe and sound, proving that comfort is also a form of faith. As long as faith does not die, anything is possible."

Juniper felt a bit of solace, and the dull pain in her heart slightly eased. "Can I take this prayer with me?"

"This prayer was written by Mr. Blackwood for you, so you can naturally take it."

Juniper clutched the prayer and left the church, crying uncontrollably.

After Juniper left, a tall male figure emerged from behind the church.

The priest asked in confusion, "Mr. Blackwood, since you are safe, why do you avoid seeing Ms. Beaumont?"

Magnus lowered his eyes, hiding the turmoil within, and said softly, "I'm afraid I can no longer give her the forever she wants."

Living on borrowed time, he had no right to seek a few days of happiness at the cost of causing another heart-wrenching pain.

Half a month had passed, and the Venomshade venom had taken effect, but Odis had made no progress on an antidote.

Magnus was prepared to die, but he wanted to see her a few more times first.

Sherlock Valley had no cable car, only a path to hike up.

Not long after Juniper descended the mountain, Magnus also followed.

By the time Juniper reached the bottom, it was already dark.

In the late autumn of Sherlock Valley, it got dark early.

At the foot of the mountain, a black car was parked.

Two armed men in black got out, both with skull tattoos on their arms.

Juniper had seen this tattoo on the high seas.

Sensing danger, she quickly jumped off the steps. But lacking agility, she twisted her ankle and rolled into the bushes.
