Chapter 224: Is Alexander Dead
People were always nosy about their past.
Late at night, Sinclair was slouched against the hospital bed, scrolling through her phone contacts. She was familiar with many names, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember them, especially Juniper.
Her head was pounding from all the thinking, and just as she was about to smack herself, Michael grabbed her hand.
"Hey, the wound on your forehead hasn't healed yet. Don't push it. If you still can't remember after you get better, we can think about surgery."
"Surgery can fix this?" Sinclair asked.
Michael nodded, "Yeah, but the doc said you're too weak for another surgery right now. You gotta get stronger first."
Sinclair asked again, "Do you know who Juniper is?"
"Why are you bringing up Juniper all of a sudden?"
He thought she was still hung up on his past with Juniper. He really didn't want to get into it right now.
But Sinclair kept pushing, "You know Juniper too? Who is she?"
Michael didn't hold back, "Juniper and I went to the same college. She's a year younger. My buddy Magnus dated her. You ran out after we had a fight while you were pregnant, passed out on the street from low blood sugar, and Juniper saved you. That's how you two met."
"So that's why the name rings a bell."
Before the car accident, Sinclair had called Juniper.
Juniper said Sinclair called to thank her for saving her and wanted to take her out for a meal.
But then Sinclair drove out in the middle of the night, saying she was going to grab some late-night snacks. Oddly enough, her GPS indicated she went to Royal View.
This puzzled Michael too.
But Sinclair was still weak, so he didn't push it.
Michael said softly, "I got a nutritionist. If there's anything you wanna eat, let me know, and I'll check if you can have it. You just had a miscarriage and are really weak, so you need to eat right."
No woman could resist kindness, especially when she was at her lowest and needed support the most.
Right now, Sinclair had no clue who she was. Michael was being super gentle with her, acting as though he were her only lifeline in the midst of a stormy sea.
She couldn't help but be moved by Michael, going from feeling awkward when she first woke up to starting to trust him more.
"Mr. Johnson," Sinclair said.
He sat beside her, watching her with calm, gentle eyes. "What's up?"
"You said we were about to get married, so why did I run out while pregnant after arguing with you?" Sinclair was curious.
And even she fainted on the street.
It sounded like they had a huge fight.
Some things just got stuck in your head. Once you started doubting, it was hard to stop.
Sinclair pressed on, "Why did we argue before?"
Michael was quiet for a few seconds.
That fight was about Juniper. She wanted him to burn the photos with Juniper, but he didn't. After Sinclair left, she went back to Oakvale County.
But it was complicated. Now that she had amnesia, he didn't know how to explain it.
He just held her shoulders and said, "Sinclair, let's not worry about the past right now. The most important thing is for you to get better, okay?"
The concern in his eyes was sincere.
Sinclair nodded, "Okay."
Michael pulled her in tight and said, his voice rough, "Yeah, we had our fights, and you even broke up with me. But you came back to the Imperial Capital with me, so I decided to move forward with you."
The baby was gone.
She wasn't as torn up about it because of her amnesia, but what about Michael?
He remembered everything.
Sinclair gently pushed him away, feeling a bit guilty. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't gone out for snacks, there wouldn't have been a car accident, and the baby wouldn't have..."
Michael touched her face and comforted her, "As long as you're okay. We can have more kids in the future."
Talking about the miscarriage, their eyes both showed a hint of sadness.
He took her hand, the one with the diamond ring, and changed the subject. "I picked this ring. Do you like it? If not, we can pick another one together after you're out of here, and try on wedding dresses too."
Michael was so gentle that Sinclair didn't know how to respond.
She looked at the sparkling diamond ring on her finger and pushed aside those distracting thoughts. "Yeah, I like it. Mr. Johnson."
"You didn't call me that before."
"Then what did I call you?"
"Just Michael."
Sinclair's face warmed. "Michael."
Michael hugged Sinclair, lowered his head, and kissed her lips.
Physical contact easily triggers some subconscious emotions.
Even though Sinclair had amnesia, she could feel that she liked him. Otherwise, why would she be willing to get pregnant before marriage?
She must have liked him a lot, so she was willing to get pregnant before marriage.
She gently raised her hand and grabbed the fabric of his shirt at his waist.
When a person woke up after losing their memory, they often saw the first person as their support, even their salvation.
Moreover, Michael was taking care of her with such tenderness that Sinclair couldn't resist.
But the one who made your heart skip a beat at first sight was often the toughest emotional barrier to break through.
Since Magnus saved Juniper at the theater and then left without saying goodbye, they hadn't contacted each other out of mutual understanding.
Even when Juniper video-called Jenny, Magnus consciously avoided it.
Juniper had just started at Windsor Group and had a lot to learn, so she kept herself busy with work, making the days not so hard to get through.
Two weeks had passed when, one night, she suddenly received a call from X City.
As soon as she answered, Isolde's tearful voice questioned, "Your dad died in prison, aren't you coming back for the funeral?"
Juniper was shocked.
Alexander died in prison?
This news was hard for Juniper to process, but Isolde on the other end of the line spoke again, "Your dad was good to you. He sent you to learn the violin and foreign languages. Now that he's dead, you won't even come back to see him? Juniper, you are so cruel."
Juniper held the phone, sat up in bed, and after a while, calmly confirmed, "Alexander is dead?"
"What else! Do you think I'd lie about something like this? You're so cold after hearing your dad died?" Isolde shouted.
Juniper sneered, "If it weren't for him, my mother and I wouldn't have suffered so much. He's gone now, and I actually feel like throwing a party to celebrate."
Isolde was so angry she couldn't speak.
"I won't attend his funeral. I'm no longer Alexander's daughter. But thanks for telling me this good news," Juniper added.
