Chapter 126 The Scalding Kiss
Sitting next to him, Sinclair's face instantly turned pale.
Her face was pale, and she seemed a bit confused. She stood up and said, "I'll go get the condiments."
After Sinclair left the table, Michael asked, "Juniper, since you're still alive, why did it take you so long to come back?"
Juniper replied truthfully, "I had some lung issues and went to the U.S. for treatment for a year."
"You were sick? Are you better now? You look much thinner."
Michael felt heartbroken for his plight.
Ophelia hooked her arm around Juniper's shoulder and half-jokingly and half-seriously said, "It's enough for Juniper to have my concern. Michael, you should save your concern for your fiancée so she doesn't misunderstand."
Juniper thought it made sense and said, "Sinclair went to get the condiments, and there are also some fruit slices over there. She probably can't carry everything by herself. Ophelia, let's go help her."
Ophelia and Juniper also went to the condiment area.
At the table, only Michael was left.
In the condiment area, after Sinclair finished preparing her portion, she started to prepare a portion for Michael.
But actually, they had been together for a while, and it was their first time eating Mexican food together. She didn't know what kind of condiments he liked.
On the other hand, she wanted to test Juniper's attitude towards Michael.
"Juniper, do you know what kind of condiments Michael likes? It's our first time eating Mexican food together, and you've known him for so long. Do you know?"
Juniper was stunned for a moment. "I'm not really sure. I don't have much private contact with Michael, and we've never eaten alone together. Why don't you ask him yourself?"
She didn't know her ex-boyfriend's friend's preferences.
Sinclair secretly breathed a sigh of relief, her expression relaxed a bit. "Okay."
After Sinclair left with the condiments, Ophelia sighed, "Sinclair is too good to Michael. The more you pamper men, the more they take it for granted."
Juniper laughed, "They're getting married. Helping with condiments is normal, right?"
Ophelia stared at her. "You really don't see it?"
"See what?"
"Juniper, did you use up all your emotional intelligence on Magnus?"
Ophelia realized that Juniper hadn't noticed that Michael liked her.
And she hadn't noticed that Michael didn't like Sinclair.
Ophelia and Juniper didn't drive.
After eating Mexican food, Michael suggested, "I'll drive you both back."
Ophelia said, "Sure, it's hard to get a cab around here at this time. Michael, please drop Juniper off at her hotel first since it's on the way, and then take me home."
"Okay."
Michael drove, and Sinclair sat in the front passenger seat.
Ophelia and Juniper sat in the back seat.
During the drive, Michael kept glancing at Juniper in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
Juniper was looking out the window and didn't notice.
Sinclair glanced at Michael and said to the people in the back seat, "I envy you both for graduating from the same university. You witnessed each other's best youth."
Best youth?
That period was not only sweet but also bitter for Juniper.
Memories from seven years ago kept surfacing in her mind.
If she could do it all over again, she would rather not have met Magnus.
Sinclair naturally didn't know about these past events.
Juniper said, "Actually, campus romances usually don't end well. There are a few lucky ones, but they're rare. Dating in college is tough to maintain because we're young and haven't faced many real-world challenges. Our views on relationships aren't mature. Meeting each other at a mature age, like you and Michael, makes it easier to understand each other."
Meeting the right person at the wrong time, when neither is capable enough to choose the life they want, leads to inevitable regrets.
These regrets ferment over time, causing deep helplessness.
This is fate.
Sinclair smiled faintly, "Is that so?"
She reached out and held Michael's arm. "Michael, I think Juniper has a point."
Michael just curled his lips slightly and didn't respond.
Ophelia, sitting in the back seat, listened quietly. "Sinclair, when you and Michael get married, make sure to invite Juniper and me. We'll be there to support you."
"Sure, I'll send you invitations."
After saying that, Sinclair subconsciously glanced at Michael.
Michael's face had turned cold, and he seemed unhappy.
After dropping Juniper and Ophelia off, Sinclair said, "Michael, I contacted the bridal shop to try on wedding dresses. When are you free? We can go together."
Michael frowned and replied indifferently, "I've been busy lately. Let's postpone the wedding plans for now."
The joy in Sinclair's eyes instantly dimmed.
She bit her lip and finally said, "Is it because Juniper is back?"
The green light turned on.
A car in front was hesitating and not moving.
Michael impatiently honked the horn, seemingly ignoring Sinclair's question.
Juniper returned to the hotel and found the phone number of the landlord of the house she had rented before.
A year ago, she thought she wouldn't survive and chose to end it all. At that time, she left everything behind.
She still had belongings in that rented house.
She called the number.
"Hello, I'm Juniper, the previous tenant of your house. Do you remember me?"
"Yes, I remember. What can I do for you?"
"I left my belongings in the house. Did you throw them away?"
If the landlord hadn't thrown them away, she could go and retrieve them.
The landlord said, "I'm not sure. The house has been sold to someone else. I'm no longer the owner. But I have the new owner's number. If you have important things left there, you can call and ask."
Juniper gratefully said, "Okay, thank you. Please give me the number."
After hanging up, Juniper dialed the new owner's number.
Magnus had just arrived at Royal View when he received a call from an unfamiliar number.
Normally, he wouldn't answer such calls.
But the number's location showed Lindwood City.
His temples throbbed inexplicably.
He answered but didn't speak.
A familiar female voice came from the other end.
It was Juniper's voice.
Magnus held the phone, frozen, not saying a word.
Juniper thought the other person hadn't heard and asked again, "Hello, can you hear me?"
Still, there was no sound from the other end.
Juniper checked her phone, thinking it might be a signal issue.
She tried again, "I used to rent that house for over two years and left many things there. I wanted to ask if my belongings are still there. If you've thrown them away, that's fine."
Magnus listened for a long time but remained silent.
He just listened to her voice, his face calm, but his inner turmoil was tumultuous.
After a few more seconds, Juniper hung up.
'So strange. Was it my phone signal issue? Why didn't the owner say anything?' She thought.
After a while, a message popped up on Messenger.
The friend request showed: Owner.
Juniper accepted the request.
The other person sent a message. [It wasn't convenient to talk earlier. We can communicate via Messenger.]
Juniper didn't suspect anything and repeated her earlier message.
The person's Messenger nickname was simple, just a letter, Y.
[Your belongings are still there.]
[When would be a good time for me to come and get them?]
[I'm free tonight.]
[What time exactly?]
[Nine o'clock.]
Juniper checked the time. It was already 8:30p.m.. If she had left now, she could have made it by nine.
After arranging everything, Juniper grabbed her bag and phone and was about to leave.
As she closed the door, she ran into Ronald, who lived in the suite opposite hers.
"Have you eaten? Want to grab something at the restaurant?" Ronald asked.
"I have something to do and need to go out."
Ronald asked, "Where are you going?"
"I need to go to my previous house to pick up some things."
"I'll drive you. You probably have a lot of stuff, and it's inconvenient without a car."
"Okay, thanks."
Her previous house wasn't a high-end residential area, just an ordinary neighborhood.
The environment could have been better, and there were no designated parking spots, so cars were parked haphazardly along the road.
Ronald had a parking issue and got into a dispute with another driver.
Juniper said, "Ronald, I'll go up and get my things first. I don't want the owner to get impatient and leave. You handle the dispute, and I'll come down when I'm done."
"Okay, you go ahead. Be careful."
Juniper nodded and entered the neighborhood.
She pressed the button for the ninth floor.
Soon, she was at the door of 902, which was closed.
She knocked, "Hello, I'm here to pick up my things. Is anyone there?"
After a few seconds, the door opened.
The room was dark.
As soon as the door opened, someone in the dark grabbed her arm and pulled her into an embrace.
Before she could see clearly, a scalding kiss landed on her.
She struggled, but the strength difference between them was too great.
She tried to kick him, but he seemed to anticipate it and pinned her leg down.
She was trapped between the man's chest and the wall.
The kiss landed on her eyebrows, nose, and lips, burning hot.
Juniper tried to pinch him hard, but he didn't budge.
She resisted. "Let go of me!"
'This pervert!' She thought.
But he didn't stop. He got even more aggressive.
She had kept her lips tightly shut, but when she opened her mouth to call for help, his tongue invaded.
He ravaged her without restraint.
