Chapter 314 She Wants to Return to Her Country
On the other side, in Solara.
Juniper had been groggy all day, leaning against the headboard, ready to look at her phone when Salina took it away.
"Mrs. Blackwood, looking at your phone strains your eyes. Why don't you eat something first?" Salina brought in dinner and said.
Juniper had no appetite. So Salina had the kitchen make some porridge and tasty side dishes to whet her appetite.
Juniper had been in bed for so long that she felt uncomfortable. "I want to eat at the dining table. Eating in bed is so uncomfortable."
Salina was unusually cautious, perhaps a bit controlling. "Mrs. Blackwood, for the sake of the baby, please bear with it for now."
Although Juniper was uncomfortable, she complied.
After eating, she said, "Salina, I haven't looked at my phone all day, and I've slept enough. I want to check the stock market. Can you give me my phone?"
Salina was stubborn. "Mrs. Blackwood, now that you're pregnant, it's better not to look at these things. It's quite taxing. Watching the stock market demands a lot of mental effort and concentration, which isn't good for your rest and recovery."
Juniper chuckled, "Is it really that serious?"
But Salina was surprisingly insistent. Juniper found it increasingly odd. It seemed like Salina was afraid of her looking at her phone. Ophelia too. Were they hiding something?
Could something have happened to SY? Or did something happen to Magnus?
After Salina left, Jenny came in to find Juniper. "Mom, you're finally awake! You've been sleeping all day!"
Juniper had an idea. "Jenny, can you bring your tablet over and let me use it for a bit?"
Jenny nodded cheerfully. "Sure! But Mom, where's your phone?"
Juniper said gently, "Salina took it away. She was worried that looking at it would strain my eyes. When you get the tablet, don't let Salina see, okay?"
Jenny squinted her big eyes and gave a mischievous smile, patting her little chest. "I'll hide it in my clothes. Mom, don't worry about it!"
Juniper smiled, "Okay."
When Jenny brought the tablet over and handed it to Juniper.
Juniper went straight to Facebook. Ever since being harassed by Mary's fans, she had hardly looked at Facebook.
The moment she logged in, a flood of information overwhelmed her. It was all messages tagging her— [Mr. Blackwood is engaged to Ms. Abbott. How do you feel about this?]
[So what if you had a child with Mr. Blackwood? You can't use a child to force him to marry you.]
[But even if Mr. Blackwood is engaged, you can still shamelessly ruin other people's relationships like before. It's not the first time. Didn't you do the same when he was with Mary?]
[Harper, don't be sad. Keep trying to be Mr. Blackwood's mistress. Maybe if you have a son, you'll have a chance to become his wife!]
Juniper was stunned by the messages. It wasn't the malicious words that shocked her, but the fact that they said Magnus was engaged to the Abbotts' daughter.
Jenny, leaning on her little arms beside Juniper, saw her dazed and tugged at her sleeve. "Mom, what's wrong?"
Juniper snapped out of it slightly, but her heart was racing. When she searched for "Magnus's engagement," her fingers trembled uncontrollably. Her heart pounded like a drum.
The news was hot, with tens of thousands of comments, shares, and likes. The top comments were all congratulations.
[Wow! A perfect match! A powerful alliance!]
[Even though he's not with Mary, Ms. Abbott is a better match for him!]
[As long as Magnus isn't with Harper, I support and congratulate them! I'm buying $10,000 worth of his stock!]
[I'm buying $20,000! Hurry and buy! The stock is likely to go up!]
[OMG, is it the Windsor Group? That's the most powerful family group in the South!]
[Yes, financially, they're almost on par with SY, but their business is different! Windsor Group started with large-scale construction materials and later moved into battery energy!]
[I know this! Last year, Windsor Group collaborated with SY when SY was making electric cars. Windsor Group provided the batteries! Could it be that Ms. Abbott and Mr. Blackwood took a liking to each other during the collaboration?]
[OMG! A business marriage, a couple who fell in love after getting married!]
[Harper's Cinderella story with a top tycoon is too cliché! Ms. Abbott and Mr. Blackwood are a better match!]
[Harper isn't exactly a Cinderella. She used to be the daughter of the governor of X City. Even though her father stepped down, she's not a Cinderella. Don't be ridiculous.]
[You said he stepped down, so now she's a Cinderella, a notorious influencer!]
Juniper didn't know how she finished reading those comments. This was news from a couple of days ago, which meant that before Magnus flew to Solara last night, this had already happened. But how did he manage not to mention a word of it?
She looked at the news, her heart feeling heavy. No, this couldn't be true.
Last night, Magnus had carried her, knelt on one knee in the cathedral, and proposed to her, placing a pink diamond on her ring finger. He said that after returning to the country, they would register their marriage and hold a wedding. He said he would always belong to her, only her. He even called her Mrs. Blackwood.
This couldn't be true; it must be fake!
Juniper's face was pale, but she tried to stay calm. She quietly handed the tablet back to Jenny, swallowing hard, her voice hoarse. "Jenny, I'm suddenly a bit thirsty. Can you ask Salina to bring me a glass of water?"
She sent Jenny away and took a while to get up. Probably because of the emotional turmoil, her abdomen suddenly ached. She took several deep breaths to calm down a bit.
There was a landline phone in the living room downstairs. She needed to call Magnus and get to the bottom of this.
Salina was coming up with a glass of water and was shocked to see Juniper out of bed. "Mrs. Blackwood, what are you..."
Juniper's face was pale, but she was determined. "Salina, give me my phone."
Salina stammered nervously, "Mrs. Blackwood, I..."
"Give it to me. I need to ask him something." This time, Juniper's slightly cold voice carried a commanding tone.
Salina hesitated but handed her the phone.
Juniper took the phone and called Magnus. But it was always off. She called many times. In the end, she doggedly dialed again and again.
But the mechanical, indifferent female voice on the phone kept reminding her that it was off.
Juniper's face looked very off.
Salina probably guessed and tentatively asked, "Mrs. Blackwood, did you... see the news?"
Juniper suddenly realized something and laughed. "So, you knew too?"
Everyone knew, except her, who was kept in the dark like a fool. She even had a happy dream, naively acknowledging herself as "Mrs. Blackwood."
Salina tried to comfort her. "It might just be a misunderstanding, Mrs. Blackwood. Don't overthink it for now. The most important thing is the baby..."
Juniper's eyes turned red, and she resolutely said, "I want to go back to the country."
She needed to ask him face to face. She didn't believe that Magnus, who proposed to her last night, would turn around and marry someone else.
