Chapter 394 Banquet (1)

Ophelia cried until her head felt swollen, her stomach churned as if she might vomit, and when she got out of the car, she felt completely dazed.

The phone in her hand had lit up a few times, but she didn't answer.

Her legs felt like they were filled with lead as she walked in the cold wind. After a while, she couldn't hold on any longer. She slowly squatted down, hugged herself, and cried out loud.

Why did fate have to fool her like this?

Inside the black Bentley.

Thomas's assistant, Jasper, got into the car and saw Thomas's bloodshot eyes in the rearview mirror.

In front of others, Thomas was calm, restrained, gentlemanly, and distant.

It was the first time he had lost his composure like this.

The atmosphere in the car was extremely oppressive.

Thomas didn't know how long he had been trying to calm down. It felt like a volcano was about to erupt in his chest, and the veins on his forehead were throbbing violently.

He suddenly raised his hand and placed it on the door handle.

Jasper realized what he was about to do and quickly turned to remind him, "Boss, NovaTech Innovations is about to go public. Too many people are watching us. If someone with ill intentions takes a photo..."

Thomas looked at the rearview mirror with red eyes. Ophelia was about 300 feet away from him.

If she were just Ms. Perez, he could have walked up to her without hesitation, comforted her, and even hugged her.

But now, she was not just Ms. Perez; she had another identity and title— Robert's wife, Mrs. Brown.

Thomas slowly withdrew his hand from the door handle and clenched it into a fist.

Jasper looked around and still felt uneasy. "Boss, we should leave as soon as possible. There are too many people attending the school anniversary today. There's no guarantee that there aren't any reporters mixed in."

Ophelia herself was a reporter. Her presence meant that there could be many other reporters around.

Thomas lowered his eyes to look at the camera on the car seat.

It was Ophelia's.

Earlier, when their emotions were on the verge of collapse, she had cried uncontrollably and forgotten to take her camera.

Thomas looked at the figure 300 feet away, unable to let go. "Let's wait a bit longer."

Jasper sighed. "If Ms. Perez could get a quick divorce, it wouldn't be a big deal. But the current situation is too sensitive."

Thomas knew this all too well.

The black Bentley didn't drive away until Ophelia had left.

The 300-foot distance gradually grew farther and farther.

Thomas watched the figure gradually disappear in the rearview mirror, leaned back in the seat, and slowly closed his bloodshot eyes.

At a restaurant near the back gate of the school.

After the black Bentley had completely left, a young woman wearing a black baseball cap stood up.

"Sir, the bill."

The restaurant owner looked at the bowl of pasta that was almost untouched and was stunned. "Miss, you didn't eat any of it. Was it that bad?"

"I took a bite. I'm on a diet."

Riley paid for the pasta, adjusted her baseball cap, put away her phone, and quickly left.

The restaurant owner dumped the bowl of pasta and shook his head with a sigh. "Girls these days are already so thin, yet they still want to diet. I just don't get it!"

The radio in the noodle shop was broadcasting entertainment news.

"Famous supermodel Riley recently announced that her five-year contract with Sparkle Entertainment Co. has ended and she will not renew it. She plans to make a high-profile return to the country."

At 6:30 PM in the winter night of Imperial Capital, it was already dark.

Magnus took Juniper to the Platinum Haven Hotel near the school.

On the way, Juniper kept checking her phone.

Magnus asked, "What's wrong?"

"Ophelia ran into Thomas at school this afternoon. Thomas said he had something to tell her. It's almost dark now, and she hasn't answered any of my calls."

"She's not a child, and Thomas isn't a monster. What could he do to her?"

Magnus's tone was indifferent.

Juniper laughed, "What if my ex-boyfriend came to see me? What do you think I would do?"

He looked down at her, raised an eyebrow, "I don't need to think about what you would do."

Juniper hadn't reacted yet when she heard him say, "Your ex-boyfriend and current boyfriend are both me. You can do whatever you want when I come to see you."

He paused and then said, "But Ophelia is already married. If Thomas..."

Magnus hadn't finished his sentence.

Juniper received a message from Ophelia.

Ophelia reassured her: [I'm fine. I'm already home. Don't worry about me.]

Juniper asked: [What did Thomas say to you?]

Ophelia replied: [I'll tell you when I have time. I went back to my parents' house.]

Knowing that she had returned to the Perez Villa, Juniper breathed a sigh of relief.

Juniper put away her phone and asked, "What if I got married, but you didn't know I was married, and you came to talk to me about the past? What would happen?"

Magnus looked at her steadily and said with certainty, "That hypothetical situation would never exist."

"Why?"

"I would never let you have the chance to marry someone else."

Juniper thought for a moment and realized she hadn't asked the right question. "I mean, if I were forced to marry someone else due to some circumstances, but I didn't love that person and always wanted a divorce, and I might not have forgotten you. If you came back to find me and learned about my situation, what would you do?"

The more Magnus listened, the more he frowned. "What do you mean by 'might not have forgotten me'? Is it still deep love, or am I the second choice?"

Juniper felt helpless. "Why are you so picky?"

Magnus was indifferent, "I'm not Thomas. I don't know how deep his feelings for Ophelia are."

"What about Robert? What does he mean to Ophelia?"

Magnus thought for a moment and said, "Well, then Thomas is more reliable."

"Mr. Brown is really lucky to have a friend like you."

Magnus looked down at her and chuckled, "People always think from their own perspective. The first person or thing I set my eyes on, I can never forget. In matters of the heart, I can't accept any latecomers. Whoever I want, I must have."

When he said this, his eyes were deep, with a dark gleam.

His words sent Juniper a quiver through her body.

They arrived at the Platinum Haven Hotel.

Juniper went to the restroom first.

Magnus was waiting outside, but people kept coming up the stairs, and he ran into someone he knew.

It was Ethan Martinez, Magnus's mentor.

Although it was normal to run into him here, Ethan's eyes still lit up. "Why didn't you come to my office this afternoon? I waited for your call all day."

Magnus laughed, "I got dragged to the lecture hall by Eugene to be a temporary worker. I did a stand-up comedy for almost two hours. But we should be sitting at the same table for dinner later."

Ethan admired Magnus a lot. When Magnus was imprisoned, Ethan had deeply regretted it.

Later, when Magnus was released and started his own business, Ethan introduced him to many resources and connections.

Although they didn't contact each other often, they had a strong mentor-student relationship.

Ethan laughed, "Eugene probably wants to set you up with his daughter again! I say, you're over thirty now, and your career is so successful. Isn't it time to think about your personal life?"

He paused, looked at Magnus, and kindly advised, "You're not still thinking about Juniper, are you? You and Juniper are over. Let it go. I've seen photos of Eugene's daughter. She's quite pretty. You should meet her. If you don't like her, then you can say no."
