Chapter 308 Teaching Her the Art of Managing People
Magnus, fearing she might get suspicious, rephrased it, "You just arrived in Solara, and Jenny has private lessons to attend. With your personality, if you have too much free time, you'll overthink things. And I'm not around, I can't comfort you if you cry."
Juniper didn't mind learning new things. Coming to Solara, away from the media and public opinion of the Imperial Capital, brought a sudden peace. Taking this time to learn new things was naturally good.
But did Magnus's words seemed to mean that she and Jenny would be staying in Solara for a long time?
But since she was already here, she might as well make the best of it.
She was willing to learn so she said, "Sure, but I'm afraid the teacher will think I'm dumb. Find me a teacher with a gentle personality."
Magnus smirked, "If she dares to get mad at you, tell Paul to replace her."
But most likely, she wouldn't dare. After all, the title of Mrs. Blackwood was intimidating enough.
Magnus's status in the business world was formidable, both domestically and internationally.
SY's listing abroad meant that many venture capitalists, short sellers, and business consultants overseas had heard of Magnus.
Juniper teased, "If you were my teacher, I would definitely become a competent business manager."
Magnus held her slender waist, guiding her to the bed, kissed her lips, and chuckled, "Not necessarily."
Juniper argued, "Why not? Are you not confident in your business skills?"
Magnus uttered, "If I were your teacher, I wouldn't get far before wanting to take you to bed. Then, would you be learning business knowledge or bedroom knowledge?"
Juniper was momentarily speechless. But Magnus indeed had a point.
Juniper was quite determined at times. When Magnus had gone missing in international waters, and she had taken charge of SY. Some of the senior executives didn't listen to her. Sometimes, even if she was right, those who disliked her would argue just to oppose her.
So, managing a large corporation wasn't just about professional knowledge; it was about mastering the art of managing people.
The CEO of a corporation wasn't necessarily the most skilled in business but needed to be the best at management.
Juniper complained a bit without naming names.
Magnus advised, "You neither gave those senior executives any favors nor showed authority, and you didn't know their scandals. Naturally, they wouldn't listen to you or fear you. A young girl who can't even run a shareholders' meeting is the least effective in front of such people."
Juniper was surprised. "You know their scandals?"
Magnus raised an eyebrow. "To control them, you must know their backgrounds and secrets inside out."
Juniper, curious, asked, "I want to know what scandal Lloyd Wallace has."
When Magnus had gone missing, Lloyd often gave her trouble. He would always bring up financial reports and blame her.
Magnus opened the company's official website on his phone, pointed to the members on the page, and said, "Despite being nearly sixty, Lloyd has a four-year-old illegitimate child in Celestia."
Juniper was shocked, her eyes widening slightly. "That's impressive. Does his wife know?"
"His wife, for the sake of his shares and assets, once sent people to Celestia to kidnap his mistress and his illegitimate child. It's a scandal, and naturally, he wouldn't make them public. He wouldn't really call the police and have his wife arrested. If it became social news, it would be his own disgrace."
Juniper asked, "But if his wife doesn't divorce him, why kidnap his illegitimate child?"
Magnus, seeing her innocence, rubbed her head and said, "In his position, divorce is no longer a personal matter. Even if he wanted to, the company would have to consider the public relations impact of a senior executive's divorce. It would be negative headline news for a major corporation if a senior executive were exposed for infidelity, having a mistress, and fathering an illegitimate child."
Magnus continued, "Moreover, the non-compete and equity agreements signed with the company don't allow such behavior. Having his shares repurchased due to personal misconduct is not worth it. His wife kidnapped his illegitimate child to force him to transfer the trust assets back. His wife also has a son, but he only knows how to indulge in pleasures. So, Lloyd found a young mistress and went to great lengths to have a son. Naturally, he dotes on the mistress's child, fearing his wife might really kill his precious son. Because of this, whatever his wife demands for her son, Lloyd will agree."
Magnus went on, "If Lloyd doesn't behave under my control, these scandals can be exposed instantly, especially during a stock market low, to repurchase all his shares. He's got a weak spot that you can exploit, so naturally, he will naturally be subservient."
Magnus added, "Holding 40% of the shares makes you the actual controlling shareholder with veto power. You don't necessarily have to it, but you must let them know that in this company, even if they hold some shares, they are just your pawns. Who rises and who falls, aligning with the core team is the wise choice."
He paused, a cold glint in his dark eyes, and said with a smirk, "If they are really disobedient, just kick them out of the core team. There are plenty of replacements. Any well-established and smoothly running company won't stop functioning because of one person."
Magnus summarized, "So, in a sense, they need to cater to you, not the other way around. A leader can give some benefits, but just enough. Think of it as giving a carrot along with a stick every now and then to keep them in line."
Magnus shared a lot about the art of managing people.
Juniper listened intently, murmuring, "So there's so much to it."
There was no need to confront Lloyd back then. Showing him photos of his illegitimate child would have made him behave.
Magnus gently squeezed the back of her neck, his eyes soft. "When the teacher I found for you arrives, you can ask them if you don't understand. You're talented; you won't have trouble learning. After all, you've managed to handle the most difficult person in the world. Managing others will be much easier."
Juniper burst into laughter, "Are you indirectly admitting that you're stubborn, gloomy, and difficult to get along with?"
