Chapter 358 Spending New Year's Eve with Her
Juniper wanted to pull her hand away but couldn't. She laughed and said, "Mr. Blackwood, is this considered coercion?"
He was the one who first showed off his abs and then grabbed her hand to touch them.
How did it become her who was so eager to touch?
Magnus held her hand, his eyes darkening slightly, "Didn't you used to love touching abs? You've changed your habit?"
There was a hint of disappointment in his deep eyes.
Juniper's heart fluttered slightly, "It's not that I don't like it. It's just that with you here, I can't focus on my work. I don't want to spend the whole afternoon thinking about abs."
He stared straight at her, "Are you kicking me out?"
Juniper didn't mean that, "No, but with so much going on at SY, won't staying here delay your work?"
Magnus squeezed her hand in his palm.
Just as he was about to say something, his phone rang.
Magnus sat up on the bed and answered the call.
It was a caregiver from the nursing home.
The voice on the other end was hesitant and nervous.
After a long explanation, the caregiver finally got to the point. "Mr. Blackwood, your mother has been staring at a necklace these days. I was worried it might be something valuable, so I wanted to put it away to prevent it from getting lost. But she reacted too strongly and grabbed it from me, and it fell to the ground and broke."
"A necklace?" Magnus frowned slightly, "What kind of necklace?"
"It's a purple gemstone necklace."
Magnus was momentarily stunned.
Feeling the silence on the other end of the phone, the caregiver became increasingly anxious. "Mr. Blackwood, is this necklace very valuable? I really didn't mean to break it. If you want me to compensate, I probably won't be able to afford it in my lifetime."
She was hired by Paul, and she knew that Magnus was very powerful. If Magnus didn't let it go, she could only ask Paul to plead for her.
Magnus instructed, "Take a picture and send it to me. Keep the broken necklace, and I'll handle it when I get back."
"Okay, Mr. Blackwood."
After hanging up the phone.
Juniper noticed Magnus's unusual expression and wrapped her slender arms around his waist from behind, peeking at him, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"The caregiver broke one of my mother's necklaces."
Juniper asked, "Is it valuable?"
Magnus felt a vague unease, but looking at Juniper, he finally said calmly, "I'm not sure yet."
"Do you need to go back to the Imperial Capital to check? What if it's something important..."
He raised his hand to rub the back of her head and said in a deep voice, "I'm here to spend New Year's with you. Are you sure you want to send me away?"
This was their first New Year together.
For so many years, they had always missed it.
In their first year together, Magnus's career was just starting, and he was extremely busy. On the night of December 31st, he was held up by a client and couldn't leave.
He had promised to spend New Year's with her and set off fireworks by the river, but by midnight, when the New Year arrived, he was already drunk.
At that time, he was helpless.
In the end, it was Juniper who took a cab to bring him home.
Back then, he held Juniper's face, their foreheads touching, and half-drunkenly coaxed her, "Baby, I'll spend every New Year's with you from now on, okay?"
After saying that, he kissed her lips in the back seat of the cab.
At that time, Magnus thought they would spend every New Year together smoothly.
Even Juniper thought so.
But later, they were separated for six years.
Juniper knew that Magnus now wanted to make up for the lost time bit by bit.
She looked at their intertwined fingers and smiled, "Alright, but there's not much to do in Skyville, and I can't leave for now. I have to oversee the production line at the factory. Won't it be too boring to spend New Year's here?"
Magnus's lips curved slightly, his eyes dark and playful, "Being with you is fun enough."
Juniper felt a bit regretful, "It would be great if Jenny were here too. The three of us could spend New Year's together."
Magnus frowned slightly, "Forget about Jenny. She'll just get in the way."
Juniper couldn't help but laugh.
If Jenny heard her dad say that, she'd probably run away from home in a huff.
In the afternoon, Juniper went to the factory to supervise.
Magnus received the photo of the necklace from the caregiver.
Even through the photo, the purple gemstone necklace still looked as clear as glass, with a uniform and pure color.
Such pure purple gemstones were rare on the market.
But Magnus had seen it before, in Christopher's missing person notice.
Christopher's biological daughter, Quinn, was wearing such a necklace when she was taken.
But how did this necklace end up in Ava's hands?
Magnus stared at the photo, lost in thought.
The caregiver called again, "Hello, Mr. Blackwood, I sent you the photo. Did you see it? Can the necklace be repaired?"
Magnus didn't care about the necklace being broken; he was more concerned about its origin.
"How is my mother's mood now?"
The caregiver replied honestly, "The doctor from the nursing home just checked on her and said she's fine. But she's been staring at the broken necklace, muttering to herself."
Magnus's eyes flickered, "What is she saying?"
"She keeps saying that she and the Beaumont family are even now, that no one can blame her for being ruthless because they bullied her first... She keeps repeating these words and mentioned a name, sound like Lyra?"
Magnus felt increasingly uneasy, "How long has she been saying these things?"
"She's been muttering them since I started taking care of her."
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
The caregiver hesitated, "I asked her several times but couldn't get anything out of her. I thought she was just talking nonsense because of her mental state and didn't know how to bring it up with you. Besides, you haven't visited the nursing home in a long time. I thought you were busy and didn't dare to disturb you."
On the phone, Ava's voice came through, "Is that you, Benjamin? Benjamin, I avenged you. Why haven't you come to see me? Where did you go? If you don't come soon, I'll come find you!"
The caregiver said, "Mr. Blackwood, Mrs. Blackwood wants to take the phone to talk to you. Would you like to speak with her?"
Magnus agreed.
Ava took the phone and asked, "Benjamin, why haven't you come to see me for so long?"
Magnus replied gently, "Mom, it's Magnus."
"Magnus... You're my son. Why are you always as busy as your father? Didn't you say you were going to bring your girlfriend to see me? Why haven't you come yet?"
Magnus glanced at the platinum ring on his ring finger, "Soon, I'm still pursuing her."
Ava said, "Why have you been pursuing her for so long and still haven't succeeded? Does she not like you? Unrequited love has no future, Magnus. You need to find someone who likes you back, like your father and me, mutually in love."
"She likes me."
Ava was even more puzzled, "If she likes you, why haven't you succeeded? When your father was young, he had a bunch of pretty girls following him. He never had to chase anyone. It was only when he pursued me that he put in a bit of effort."
Talking about this, Ava's tone had a hint of pride.
Magnus smiled faintly and asked about the important matter, "Mom, tell me, where did that purple gemstone necklace come from?"
Ava suddenly became alarmed, her tone unusually serious, "Why are you asking about this? Kids shouldn't pry into adults' business!"
