Chapter 370 New Year's Eve Surprise
As Ophelia was about to hang up, she couldn't help but remind her.
"If Magnus proposes, you need to think it over carefully. Don't rush into marriage like I did. Now it's hard to get out."
The cooling-off period for divorce had been extended.
Marriage should be taken even more seriously. When something was easy to get into but hard to get out of, one needed to be cautious and watch out for traps.
Juniper knew Ophelia meant well, so she said, "Okay, I know. If you really decide to divorce Robert, Ophelia, I'll always be on your side."
Ophelia understood what she meant.
Ophelia smiled bitterly, "The one thing I don't regret is becoming good friends with you. Even my own parents wouldn't consider things from my perspective. Juniper, thank you."
"No problem. When I was pregnant and alone, it was you who stayed with me."
After hanging up the phone, Ophelia sat in her study, lost in thought.
Looking at the interview notes about Thomas, her brow furrowed with worry.
The past that couldn't be avoided must be faced.
She organized her notes, stretched, and walked out of the study.
On the marble floor at the study door, there was a brand-new ultra-thin laptop.
She was stunned for a few seconds, bent down to pick it up, and looked around the villa, but didn't see Robert.
Downstairs, the maid Katerina was making dinner.
She leaned on the second-floor railing with the laptop and asked, "Katerina, did Robert come back just now?"
"Mr. Brown was here a moment ago, but now he's gone. Mrs. Brown, do you need him for something?"
"Nothing important."
Katerina finished cooking the tonic and looked up at the second floor, "Mrs. Brown, the tonic is ready. Do you want to eat it now or later?"
Ophelia sighed and muttered, "More tonic again."
Katerina was sent from the old house. She was a maid, but not quite like an ordinary maid.
Katerina was sent by Samuel.
Even Robert had to show her some respect.
Katerina said, "Mrs. Brown, if you and Mr. Brown can continue to be as loving as last night, plus this tonic to help with conception, I'm sure you'll be pregnant soon. Then I can report back to the old house."
Katerina's words were too blunt.
Ophelia's face flushed.
Did Katerina know what she and Robert did in the room?
Was the room not soundproof enough, or did she lose control and scream too loudly last night?
She was curious about how Katerina knew.
Katerina smiled and brought up the tonic, saying, "Mrs. Brown, don't worry. I've thrown away all the condoms in the house. Next time, make sure to seize the opportunity."
Ophelia's mouth twitched.
So Katerina found the used condoms in the trash.
Katerina continued, "Yesterday, Mr. Robert Brown went back to the old house, and Mr. Samuel Brown gave him a beating. Mrs. Ophelia Brown, Mr. Samuel Brown still hopes you and Mr. Robert Brown can live well together."
Ophelia was stunned.
So, the wound on his mouth was from Samuel?
Ophelia held back her nausea and finished the awful tonic before she could leave.
Back in the study, she opened the brand-new laptop and spent a long time transferring data.
To be fair, Robert was a bit of a jerk, but he was generous.
Yesterday, he broke a laptop, and today he replaced it with a newer, more expensive, and better-performing one.
The laptop was great.
Too bad the person wasn't.
Soon, it was December 31st.
Last night, Juniper talked to Magnus on the phone. Magnus said he couldn't come because he was tied up with work.
Juniper said she didn't mind, but she was a bit disappointed.
After all these years, they had never spent New Year's Eve together, nor had they celebrated a proper holiday.
That day, Juniper finished her work early.
The next day was New Year's, and they were supposed to have a holiday, but due to a rush job, some workers were scheduled to work overtime.
At 7:30 PM.
Karen suddenly came over and said, "Aren't you going to spend New Year's Eve with Mr. Blackwood? It's after work, why are you still hanging around the factory?"
Juniper stretched her arm and hooked it around Karen's neck, "Mr. Blackwood is too busy to come to Skyville. Tonight, you and I will make do and celebrate together."
Karen pushed her arm away and tossed her the car keys, "It only takes a little over an hour to drive from Skyville to the Imperial Capital. You can still make it if you leave now."
Juniper held the car keys and said, "But I have to work tomorrow morning."
Karen, thinking it was no big deal, said, "Just come back before morning."
That made sense.
Seeing her still standing there, Karen urged, "What are you hesitating for? Go and come back quickly!"
Karen pushed her to hurry up.
For a moment, Juniper felt like Karen was more eager for her to see Magnus than she was.
In the car.
After setting up the navigation, Juniper thought about calling Magnus to let him know.
But then she decided not to.
If she told him in advance, it wouldn't be a surprise.
So she drove onto the highway to the Imperial Capital.
At 8:30 PM, just as she was about to exit the highway, her phone rang.
It was Magnus.
She answered, and he asked, "Juniper, where are you?"
Juniper didn't tell him the truth, "I'm at the hotel."
The person on the other end chuckled helplessly, "I'm right outside your room. I've been knocking for a while, but no one answered. Karen said you drove to the Imperial Capital to find me?"
Juniper was stunned.
She was heading to the Imperial Capital, while Magnus was heading to Skyville.
What a "mutual effort," all for nothing.
Juniper almost cursed, "I'm about to exit the highway! What now?"
Magnus, amused and exasperated, said, "Turn around and come back. Just navigate to Sky Dome Mountain in Skyville."
"Sky Dome Mountain? What for?"
Magnus didn't answer, just said, "Let's meet at Sky Dome Mountain first. I'll wait for you at the foot of the mountain."
Juniper exited the highway, feeling like an idiot, and turned back onto the highway.
She paid the toll twice.
She scratched her head, "Will I make it in time?"
It would take about two hours to get to Sky Dome Mountain.
Magnus said calmly, "Drive slowly, no rush. I'll wait for you no matter how late."
There were about three hours left until midnight.
When Juniper finally arrived, it was almost eleven.
She got out of the car and saw Magnus standing by his car with the headlights on, waiting for her in a pool of light.
When Magnus saw her, he threw away the half-smoked cigarette and crushed the glowing ember with his shoe.
He naturally opened his arms to her.
Juniper ran over and crashed into his embrace, smelling the faint tobacco scent on him. She knew he had been waiting for a long time and asked, "How long have you been waiting?"
Magnus looked down at her and smiled lightly, "Not long."
Juniper smiled, "Didn't you say last night you were too busy to come to Skyville?"
Magnus raised an eyebrow slightly, "And you, didn't you just say you were at the hotel?"
Juniper smiled without saying anything.
Magnus put his arm around her shoulder and walked towards the cable car.
Juniper asked, "Is the cable car still running this late?"
Magnus's refined eyes sparkled with amusement. "Money talks."
