Chapter 136 The Gentle Demon
Juniper tightly closed her lips, trembling in his arms.
She felt like drowning.
She felt like she was under the deep sea, struggling to reach out for help. But as soon as she grasped that straw, a huge wave suddenly swept her away.
In the raging waves, she was tossed high and then dropped suddenly.
She had no control.
Her heart raced wildly.
Joseph stood guard outside the car.
The car windows were tinted, providing excellent privacy.
People couldn’t see them from outside.
He lowered his dark eyes, his long fingers unbuttoning her shirt slowly as if he had all the patience in the world.
But in reality, his patience had long worn thin.
When she was about to follow Ronald back to Lindwood City, Magnus was almost consumed by towering jealousy.
He raised his gaze slightly, looking at her, and asked for the last time, "When you said 25-year-old Juniper just wants to stay away from Magnus, did you mean it? Or were you just being mad at me?"
One second. Two seconds. Three seconds.
The silence was endless.
Magnus chuckled, mocking, disappointed, helpless.
Silence was the best answer.
He held Juniper's arm, but his grip tightened more and more. He lowered his gaze to the scar on her left chest and gently touched it with his fingertips.
The temperature of his fingertips was dry and slightly cool, the movement was so gentle, yet his handsome face remained icily cold.
"Do you want to stay away from me?" Juniper's shirt was pulled down to her waist. The car's air conditioning was not on. Her nervous palms were sweaty.
"Magnus, please let me go."
He ignored her plea, only obsessively staring at the faintly raised scar on her left chest. Word by word, he said, "What if I don't?"
He looked at her chest, but there was no hint of desire in his eyes.
If he could destroy her, she’d belong to him forever.
Juniper seemed to realize what he wanted to do, her long lashes trembling slightly.
She swallowed, wanting to curl up in fear. But Magnus had complete control over her. He held the back of her neck, pressing down, his breath forcefully approaching, "I don't want to hurt you, be good, okay?"
Forced to meet his gaze, she saw a hint of tenderness in his dark eyes. Perhaps an illusion, that pitiful hint of tenderness flashed by. It was just the demon's affection.
He wouldn't let her go. "Juniper, do you know what 'forever' means?" He looked at her and said word by word, "The word 'forever' means all the time, without one year, one month, or one day missing."
Juniper's eyes reddened, laughing bitterly, "We already lost our ‘forever’."
"Because you broke your promise. And those who broke a promise should be punished."
His shadow completely enveloped her.
Juniper trembled greatly under his palm. She didn't want to cry. But the stress response was too strong.
She was so scared that her heart was about to stop beating. Breathing became difficult. Her face was deadly pale.
Subconsciously, she reached out and tightly grasped the sleeve of his shirt, as if seeking help.
Tears silently slid from the corners of her eyes. She looked at him hopelessly, unable to make a sound, just pulling at his shirt sleeve over and over again, begging him to stop.
After a long time, she was worn out, almost fainting. Magnus stopped abruptly and pulled her into his arms. "Juniper."
Sweat covered her face and body. She looked like she had been pulled out of the water. Juniper opened her mouth as if she couldn't breathe. Magnus held her, as if realizing something. He lifted her up, let her lean on his shoulder, and his big hand stroked her back repeatedly, following her breath.
"Try taking deep breaths, inhale."
Juniper leaned on his shoulder, opened her mouth, took deep breaths, and exhaled repeatedly. After some time, she leaned against him, her breathing gradually calming down.
Magnus looked down at her, her forehead and temples were all wet. Finally, he helplessly pushed her sweaty hair back behind her head.
Leaning down, he kissed her forehead, as if comforting her. "Are you that afraid of me?"
He hadn't even done anything to her yet. He just held her, accompanying her in the car, calming her emotions for long enough for Magnus to lose all his temper.
Juniper fell into shadow, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke, "Can you let me go now?"
Her only sign of weakness was just to leave him. Magnus looked at her and said, "No."
Despair was all over her eyes.
He raised his hand, and she was visibly startled. Magnus still reached out his hand, bitterly smiling, "Your close is still a mess. Do you want to leave like this?"
Juniper lowered her head, only then realizing that she hadn't put on her shirt yet. She wrapped the top around herself.
But her hands were shaking so much that she couldn’t fasten the buttons on the shirt.
She anxiously frowned.
Magnus looked at her in panic without emotion, "Is it so hard to stay with me?"
Was she in such a hurry to leave?
Juniper swallowed hard, not daring to say a word.
Magnus lowered his gaze, raised his hand, and carefully buttoned up her shirt, one by one.
His lowered gaze was incredibly serious.
He buttoned up the last one. His fingers paused for a moment, as if reluctant. It was just a few seconds of pause. Juniper was in a panic, "Can I go now?"
Magnus finally withdrew his hand.
He lowered his face, didn't look at her again, and coldly said, "Get lost."
Inside the car, there was a rustling sound.
Juniper almost crawled out, unlocking the car door. She ran out of the car, her legs feeling weak.
She walked as fast as she could to Ronald's car, fearing that Magnus would regret it.
Before leaving, Ronald gave her the car keys. Her hands trembling, it took her several minutes to actually put the key into the right place.
She gripped the steering wheel, took a deep breath, started the car, and immediately left the airport.
The black Land Rover gradually disappeared from Magnus's eyes.
She escaped fast this time.
Next time, he wouldn't be so kind.
He sat in the back seat, his cold face showing unclear emotions.
On the car seat, there was a pearl earring. It must have been dropped there just now.
Magnus played with the small pearl earring, its simple and elegant style suited her well.
He pinched the earring with his long fingers and turned it around.
He looked down at it, smiling faintly. Juniper not only rejected him but even repelled him.
But in the past, Juniper was extremely clingy to him.
Was it truly impossible to go back then?
