Chapter 231 Juniper Gets Kidnapped
Jenny bounced to the classroom door, her little backpack jiggling and her hand clutching Juniper's.
"Mom, don't forget my parent-teacher conference this afternoon! And seriously, don't tell Dad I bombed the English midterm!"
She'd be in deep trouble if he found out!
Juniper ruffled her hair, "Got it, kiddo."
As they conversed, several curious faces appeared at the classroom window.
"Jenny, is that your mom?" one of her classmates asked.
Jenny puffed out her chest, beaming with pride. "Yep! I told you my mom's beautiful, but you didn't believe me! Now you do, right?"
"It's halfway through the semester, and this is the first time we've seen her. Everyone thought you were making it up," the classmate said.
Jenny pouted, "Well, now you've seen her!"
Another kid chimed in, "Jenny, your mom looks like a movie star!"
Kids loved comparing stuff—whose mom was prettier, whose dad was cooler, whose toys were the best. Winning these little competitions made Jenny's day.
Juniper's visit to the school made Jenny feel like a rockstar.
Once inside, a swarm of curious kids surrounded her.
"Jenny, has your mom always been this pretty? My mom says some beauties get plastic surgery. Did your mom get work done?"
Jenny rolled her eyes, "Your mom got work done! My mom's always been this pretty! Tons of handsome men like my mom, but she only likes my dad!"
"If your mom likes your dad, why aren't they together? It's always your dad who comes to school."
Jenny didn't get it either.
This was way over her head.
Dad liked Mom, Mom liked Dad, but they just couldn't be together. Why? She had no clue.
Maybe grown-ups just had too much drama!
"Why are you asking so many questions? Get back to studying, or the teacher will blame me for talking!" Jenny, acting all grown-up, shooed her classmate back to their seat.
"I'm a kid, and you're not?" her classmate shot back.
"I'm a month older than you, so yeah, I'm older!"
Jenny stuck her tongue out at the classmate next to her.
Juniper stood outside, feeling relieved seeing Jenny fitting in so well.
Once the kids started their lessons, Juniper left.
On her way back to Royal View, she thought about how to deal with Magnus.
Flashes of last night's intimate moments crossed her mind, and her legs still felt a bit sore.
The car rolled into the quiet villa area, where only residents' cars were allowed.
Just as Juniper was about to drive in, a black car suddenly sped up and cut her off!
The tires screeched.
If Juniper hadn't braked in time, she would've crashed!
Fuming, she rolled down her window to confront the other driver, but a guy in a baseball cap jumped out of the black car, rushed over, and covered her mouth and nose!
In just three seconds, she was out cold, no time to even fight back.
At Royal View, Magnus woke up at 2 PM, his head pounding from last night's hangover.
His phone on the bedside table wouldn't stop ringing. Annoyed, he dragged his heavy body to the edge of the bed and answered it.
"Yeah, what?"
Magnus picked up the call from the school, "Hello, are you Jenny's parent? The parent-teacher conference is about to start. Why haven't you arrived yet?"
Magnus frowned, "Parent-teacher conference?"
Jenny hadn't mentioned it to him.
The teacher continued, "Yes, are you Jenny's dad? I just asked Jenny, and she said she told her mom, who promised to come this afternoon, but her mom hasn't shown up yet. Is something holding her up?"
Magnus's eyes narrowed, thinking Jenny might be fibbing. "Teacher, could you let Jenny take the phone? I need to ask her about this."
"Okay."
Soon, Jenny took the teacher's phone and answered.
"Hello, Dad."
Magnus asked, "Why didn't you tell me about the parent-teacher conference?"
His voice was hoarse and cold.
Jenny shrank her neck, "Dad, Mom said she'd come to the parent-teacher conference. I thought you were too busy with work, so I didn't want to bother you. Where's Mom? Please ask her to come to school!"
"She's in Southern City. How could she come to your parent-teacher conference?"
Jenny argued loudly, "No! Mom dropped me off at school this morning! My classmates saw her! Dad, I'm not lying! Didn't you see Mom?"
"What did you say?" Magnus was confused.
"Dad, Mom slept with you last night. Did you get so drunk that you don't remember anything? Please call Mom and ask her to come to school for the parent-teacher conference! Dad, you've already come to one before, and my classmates said you look too scary, so don't come and scare them." Jenny was making things up seriously.
She was really afraid that if Dad came and saw her grades, he would spank her right there.
That would be so embarrassing!
Magnus held the phone, lost in thought.
He slowly recalled last night, his dark eyes narrowing sharply.
So, last night's dream wasn't a dream at all, but reality?
On the phone, Jenny was shouting, "Dad? Why aren't you saying anything? Dad?"
Magnus snapped back to reality, "You said Juniper dropped you off at school this morning and promised to come to the parent-teacher conference this afternoon, but she hasn't shown up yet?"
"Yes!"
"Tell the teacher that I have something urgent to deal with today and will come to the school to apologize later." Magnus hung up.
He looked at the bed, lifted the covers, and saw a dried white stain in the middle of the dark sheets.
Magnus's heart raced.
He got up, not even bothering to put on his slippers, and walked downstairs barefoot, "Juniper!"
Naomi heard the commotion and came out of the nanny's room.
"Sir, what's wrong?"
"Have you seen Juniper?"
Naomi replied, "Ms. Beaumont? I haven't seen her. She took Jenny to school this morning and hasn't come back yet. Maybe she went shopping with Ms. Perez?"
After Juniper's attempted suicide by jumping into the sea, Ophelia often came to the house to see Jenny, so Naomi knew Ophelia was Juniper's best friend.
But since Juniper had promised Jenny to attend the parent-teacher conference, she would keep her word.
The unease in his heart grew stronger.
Juniper was likely in trouble.
Just as he was about to call Paul, his phone rang.
The caller ID showed an unknown number.
Magnus immediately answered.
A middle-aged man's voice came through the phone. "Magnus, long time no see. Do you remember who I am?"
Magnus gritted his teeth, his eyes flashing with cold light, "Alexander Beaumont! Did you kidnap Juniper?"
"No wonder you managed to make SY stronger in just three years. Magnus, if you weren't Benjamin Brown's son, I might actually admire you." Alexander sneered.
"What do you want?"
"Bring five million dollars to the open sea. I'll send you the sea route. Remember, I want you to come in person."
