Chapter 381 Wearing His Shirt

In a small town near Sunrise City, located around the Imperial Capital.

A black car incongruously parked in front of an old house, looking out of place on the dilapidated street.

Paul sat in the driver's seat, glanced at his watch, and said, "It's been over three hours. Are we going to keep waiting?"

Earlier, Paul had found the duty roster for the obstetrics department at Evergreen Hospital on the night of June 6, 1998.

Magnus had asked him to focus on investigating a nurse named Helena on that list.

After finally finding her address and coming here in person, they had been waiting for over three hours without any sign of her.

Paul worriedly asked, "Could she have moved away already?"

"Let's wait a bit longer."

Just as he finished speaking, a thin, middle-aged woman appeared in the rearview mirror.

The woman was dressed simply but looked very capable. Despite her aging appearance and some wrinkles on her face, one could still glimpse the beauty of her youth.

She bore some resemblance to Ava.

When Magnus and Paul, two unfamiliar faces, appeared in front of Helena, she asked, "Who are you two?"

Magnus was straightforward. "I'm Ava's son, Magnus."

Helena was visibly stunned.

She looked up, almost dazed, at the person in front of her, her eyes filled with surprise. "You... you really are my cousin's son?"

After a few pleasantries, Helena invited them into the house.

She brought over two glasses of water. "My home is simple. Please make do with the sofa."

Magnus nodded slightly. "It's fine. I'm here today mainly to ask you about something."

Helena also sat down, looking at Magnus, and couldn't help but sigh. "You've grown so much. I remember the last time I saw you, you were only this tall. You probably don't remember me, do you?"

As people grow up, memories from four or five years ago are almost blank.

Naturally, he didn't remember Helena.

Helena looked at him, feeling a sense of loss. "You look a lot like your father when he was young. How has your mother been all these years?"

Magnus replied truthfully, "My mother's condition fluctuates between clarity and confusion. She misses my father a lot and hasn't been doing well."

"Your parents were indeed very much in love back then. If it weren't for fate's tricks, your father wouldn't have had an accident, and your mother wouldn't be like this now."

Speaking of the past, Magnus's eyes darkened. "Helena, can you tell me everything that happened back then?"

Helena hesitated. "Are you... trying to avenge your father?"

"The Alexander who caused my father's death is already gone. What I want to know is whether my mother switched Alexander and Lyra's children back then."

Helena's pupils visibly trembled, and her face turned slightly pale.

She lowered her head slightly, avoiding eye contact, and stammered, "Those are old grudges from the previous generation. Since the culprit who killed your father is already gone, let those old stories stay buried in the past."

Magnus's sharp, clear eyes scrutinized her, his attitude persistent. "The grudges of the previous generation should indeed end with them, but now those grudges have affected the next generation."

Helena was puzzled. "Those things have nothing to do with you. Your mother certainly wouldn't want you to get involved. Take my advice, don't ask. You don't need to know about those things."

Magnus suddenly said, "Helena, I might be getting married soon."

Helena smiled. "Congratulations. Your mother must be very happy, right?"

Magnus stared at her evasive eyes and said word by word, "The person I want to marry is Alexander and Lyra's adopted daughter."

"What did you say?"

In the Royal View villa.

After feeding the cat, Juniper lay on the sofa with it, flipping through some miscellaneous books.

The winter night in the Imperial Capital turned dark early.

She glanced at the time; it was six o'clock.

She petted the kitten. "Play by yourself for a while. I'm going to take a shower."

Juniper took her luggage upstairs to the bedroom, opened the suitcase, and realized she hadn't brought her pajamas.

She chose a soft, comfortable men's shirt from the wardrobe.

After showering, she had just lain down to take a nap when a friend request popped up on WhatsApp.

The verification message read: [Clio]

Clio was her college roommate. They had a good relationship back then, but too much had happened since, and she had lost touch with most people.

Since she would likely see Clio at the reunion tomorrow, she accepted the request.

Soon, Clio sent a message: [Juniper? Is it really you?]

Juniper: [Yes, long time no see.]

Clio: [I can't believe you still remember me. I thought you had forgotten about me.]

Juniper: [How could I? You even lent me money back then. I remember.]

Back then, Juniper often struggled with her living expenses. Although Clio's family wasn't extremely wealthy, she had enough to occasionally lend Juniper some money for meals.

When Isolde generously sent Juniper her living expenses, she would repay Clio.

However, borrowing money for meals stopped happening after she started dating Magnus.

Clio had even teased her, saying she was being "kept" by Magnus.

Clio: [I thought you and Magnus would be together forever and eventually get married. What a pity.]

Juniper didn't know how to respond.

After all, classmates who had been out of touch for so long had long exited each other's lives and no longer understood each other.

When they reunited, it seemed they could only reminisce about the past.

Juniper was not good at handling such relationships, which seemed familiar yet distant. She wanted to maintain the connection but didn't know where to start.

After a while, she didn't reply.

Clio sent another message: [Some alumni were gossiping earlier, saying Magnus is getting married! Did you know about this?]

Clio then sent a screenshot.

The screenshot was from a recent social media post by Magnus announcing his successful proposal.

Clio seemed incredulous: [Magnus was so deeply in love with you back then. Is he really marrying someone else? Did he send you a wedding invitation?]

Juniper: [No.]

Clio: [Isn't it customary to notify exes about weddings? And you two were so close to getting married back then.]

Clio seemed to be lamenting.

Juniper asked: [Where did you get this screenshot?]

Clio: [You're so calm, even asking that? I think a classmate posted it. He seems to have Magnus's Facebook. This screenshot has gone viral in several alumni groups.]

Juniper: [After all these years, why are you still so interested in Magnus's gossip?]

Clio: [It's Magnus! He was such a big deal back then! And now he's even more of a big deal! This time, for the Imperial Capital University reunion, he's listed as a notable alumnus! I heard he donated a large sum of money to our alma mater! The principal must be overjoyed!]

Juniper didn't reply.

Clio continued: [Magnus's fiancée's diamond ring is huge. I wonder if he'll bring her to the reunion tomorrow. I'm so curious about what she looks like!]

Juniper: [We'll find out tomorrow.]

Desperate Love: sorry for my dear husband
