Chapter 159 Who Are You Trying to Please?
Magnus sympathetically glanced at Robert again. "And you, how do you feel about Ophelia?"
Previously, they were on the verge of divorce.
He had asked Robert once before, but at that time, Robert said that he hadn't thought about it.
Robert told the truth.
From his upbringing, he had been instilled with a certain belief.
That interactions between people were based on exchanges of interests.
Emotions, such as love, were ever-changing and not as reliable as exchanges of interests.
Just like Robert's parents, who had a marriage of convenience.
Their relationship had always been quite tepid but rather stable.
Robert believed that his relationship with Ophelia was similar. He invested in the Perez Group and bought Ophelia a bag. All Ophelia had to do was play the role of Mrs. Brown obediently.
Wasn't this kind of relationship good enough?
Robert had never felt that there was anything wrong with it.
However, today, Ophelia looked at him with a sense of grievance and said she wanted to marry the person she loved and hoped for that love to be reciprocated.
Love?
What was the value of that?
It couldn't buy her a wall full of designer bags.
Robert stubbed out his cigarette and coldly snorted, "No matter how good her first love was, it has ended."
Ophelia was now his wife.
Was Thomas despicable enough to be willing to be the adulterer?
Magnus frowned, as if pondering, and remarked, "Be careful. First love is rarely resistible. I advise you to divorce early and let her reunite with her first love, that would count as doing a good deed."
Robert's face darkened completely. "Are you really my friend, or did Thomas send you as a spy?"
Magnus smirked, taunting lightly, "I'm doing this for your own you. If you don't love Ophelia, why hold onto her?"
"And what about you? Juniper wants to return to Southern City, and you're holding her with a fourteen billion dollars, not letting her leave. How are you better than me? Why don't you do a good deed?"
"That's because Juniper and I care about each other. What about you? Clinging to someone without feelings? Despicable, isn't it?"
Magnus was provoking him, huh? Robert was furious.
At that moment, Juniper happened to come down from upstairs.
She stood there and happened to overhear Magnus's words.
Robert saw Juniper approaching and raised an eyebrow, enjoying the drama. "Juniper, let me ask you on behalf of Magnus. Are you going back to Southern City?"
Magnus was taken aback.
Robert was now bent on creating chaos.
However, inexplicably, Magnus was a bit curious about how Juniper would respond.
He looked at Juniper, not intervening.
He wanted to know what Juniper really thought.
Juniper, with a calm expression, looked at Robert and asked, "Mr. Brown, Ophelia also wants me to ask you. Do you really love her? If you don't, then please divorce her quickly. Don't keep her hanging, deceiving both herself and others."
Robert was stunned.
Juniper was mean, too!
No wonder she hadn't been killed by Magnus's words, who was more cutting was still uncertain!
Magnus cleared his throat, unable to contain his amusement.
Magnus took Juniper's wrist and said, "Let's go. Let's go home."
Robert stared at the two holding hands, his expression growing colder.
The two were acting intimate in public and kept doing it!
On the way back to Royal View.
Juniper sat in the passenger seat and couldn't help but ask, "Is Riley Mr. Brown's first love? Since she's back, why doesn't Mr. Brown agree to a divorce?"
Magnus said disapprovingly "First love? Robert has never been sentimental. Whether he likes Ophelia or not, I'm not sure, but he has never fallen in love with someone, let alone a first love."
In fact, first love varied from person to person.
Some people remembered their first love deeply because it was their first taste of "love."
While for some, first love was just the first person they had dated.
Just dating, and it was not necessarily love.
For Robert, his past relationships were mostly like that. For him, dating was just a way to pass the time.
It was normal for Robert not to remember the name of his first love.
"Has Mr. Brown had many relationships in the past?"
Was his romantic history that rich?
"I'm not sure about the specifics. I've only seen Ophelia among the women he's been with."
Was this the standard response of a good brother?
Juniper was skeptical.
Soon, they arrived at Royal View.
As soon as they got out of the car, Juniper received a call from her agent, Alice.
"The schedule for 'Heartbeat Moment,' the dating show, has been set. We'll start filming the first episode next week. I'll send you the script later. Remember to take a look in the next few days."
"So soon? Is it in Imperial Capital?"
"No, it's in S City. But the character I got for you might not be very likable, a people-pleaser. The three male guests might not like you, and they might not choose you. Do you mind?"
Juniper didn't mind these things; she was just there to collect her appearance fee.
"No. Thank you, Alice."
Alice had some thoughts. "I wanted to help you build a more popular persona, but if you end up with one of the male guests, you'll have to announce your breakup after debuting, which is unnecessary and troublesome."
"Okay, being likable is fine. Alice, please send me the specific schedule and script later."
"Sure, and when you release the video tonight, show your face. Before going on the dating show, it's good to get some exposure and hype."
Juniper had been singing behind the scenes all this time, so actually showing her face required some mental preparation.
However, she had signed a contract with Alice, and as a newcomer, she naturally had to be obedient, and Alice did it for her good.
"Okay."
Then, Juniper hung up the phone.
She was about to tell Magnus about this.
Magnus, with a serious face, suddenly asked, "Pleasing others? Who are you trying to please?"
"I... I signed up with Mirage Media Group, and now Alice is my agent. She got me a dating show, and I'll be going to S City next week for filming. The people-pleasing character is just a role, not actually trying to please anyone."
"A dating show?"
Magnus frowned.
He didn't quite understand what a dating show was.
Juniper nodded; she was still in the debt repayment period and didn't want to upset her creditors to avoid trouble in the future.
So she said, "A dating show is... a book reading program."
Magnus had never watched those uninformative variety shows; he wouldn't have seen that program.
This was Juniper's own work; she didn't want interference.
Magnus stared at her with sullen eyes. "Are you trying to please others on a book reading show?"
As soon as he spoke, Magnus loosened his tie and walked past Juniper.
He seemed angry.
Jenny, who was nearby, also heard it but got excited. "Mom! Are you going to S City! Can you take me to play with you! My friend said he likes a girl in the next class and is always trying to please her! I want to know what it feels like to please someone, too!"
Juniper was momentarily at a loss for words.
Jenny was quite ambitious in the study.
Magnus glanced at the tie lying on the side.
Giving him a tie, but going to please others?
Magnus indeed didn't know much about dating shows.
Surprisingly, he opened a browser.
With a few keystrokes, he entered in the search engine—
[What is a dating show]
The search results came out—
[A dating show is a reality show about love, where amateur guests act out a mix of real and fake romantic games, often scripted.]
So, was Juniper going to the show to date the male guests?
Magnus's face instantly froze into ice.
