Chapter 359 Once Divorced, I Leave with Nothing
Ava had a mental breakdown, her memory was jumbled and confused. She often mistook Magnus for a child and sometimes thought Magnus was her husband, Benjamin.
Magnus had seen photos of his biological father; they bore some resemblance.
Especially the brow bone, very similar.
Magnus kept pressing for answers, but Ava was vague and guarded, revealing nothing useful.
But he was sure of one thing—
This necklace wasn't Ava's, and its origin was complicated.
His expression darkened, and he patiently said, "This necklace might belong to my girlfriend. If she finds out you broke it, what if she gets angry?"
"What did you say? This necklace belongs to your girlfriend? Who is your girlfriend? Impossible! No way! This is absolutely impossible!"
Ava reacted violently.
When Magnus tried to continue the conversation, Ava had already thrown the phone and completely lost control.
The caregiver said, "Mr. Blackwood, your mother's condition is very bad. I need to take care of her first and will call you later."
He instructed in a deep voice, "Keep the broken necklace safe. I'll come to get it."
"Yes, Mr. Blackwood."
After hanging up the phone, the doubt in Magnus's heart grew deeper.
Sophie had also taken a necklace to the Abbotts back then, but it was most likely a high-quality replica.
The Shadow Syndicate was capable of anything; replicating a similar necklace wouldn't be difficult.
And the one in Ava's hand was likely the real one Christopher had originally given to Quinn.
When he went to Southern City to deliver the antidote to Christopher, lives were at stake, and he himself was poisoned, so he didn't delve into Juniper's background.
At that time, Christopher was still recovering in bed. After he handing the paternity test report to Christopher, Juniper and Ronald arrived at the hospital shortly after, and he didn't have much more interaction with Christopher.
He only told Christopher that Juniper was his biological daughter.
After learning from Ronald that the real Quinn had a light blue birthmark on her back, he became suspicious and secretly did a paternity test. He was surprised by the results.
Alexander treated Juniper poorly simply because he favored sons over daughters and never mentioned that Juniper wasn't his daughter.
Based on his understanding of Alexander, if Alexander knew Juniper wasn't his biological daughter, he would have cursed her long ago and wouldn't have groomed her to be a socialite.
And what about Lyra? She never mentioned Juniper's background either. Did she not know at all?
Even though Lyra was his parents' enemy and he didn't like her, to be fair, Lyra treated Juniper well.
The doubts, like a snowball, grew larger and larger, making Magnus increasingly uneasy.
At the Abbotts' villa in Southern City.
Christopher was a bit surprised when he received Magnus's call. "Mr. Blackwood?"
"Mr. Abbott, you don't have to be so formal in private. Just call me by my name."
Christopher naturally understood Magnus's intentions.
But he had to maintain the demeanor of a future father-in-law.
Christopher smiled, "Since nothing is settled yet and Quinn hasn't given a definite answer, I think it's better to stick with Mr. Blackwood for now. Is this call for business or personal matters?"
Magnus pressed his lips together and got to the point, "Mr. Abbott, I wanted to ask you, was the necklace Sophie had when she claimed to be your daughter real?"
Christopher replied, "The amethyst was real jewel, and it was a very fine amethyst, very similar to the one I gave Quinn. When Sophie first approached me with the necklace, I didn't recognize it. Even if you put the two necklaces together, without professional equipment to examine the patterns, you couldn't tell which one I originally gave to Quinn."
"At that time, I also had Ronald do a paternity test for Sophie and me. Shadow Syndicate must have followed Ronald and bribed the hospital. Sophie was part of Shadow Syndicate, so these tactics weren't surprising. But looking at Sophie, I couldn't associate this young girl with an organization like Shadow Syndicate."
"I saw no problem with the necklace, and the paternity test results were correct, so I accepted her."
"Later, I still felt uneasy and secretly took the necklace to a professional institution for appraisal. The original necklace was bought at an auction, and I had the certificate. Even if the gemstone was real and the necklace design was similar, there couldn't be two identical gemstone necklaces in the world."
"But when the appraisal results came out, I had just learned that the necklace wasn't the original, and before I could investigate further, I fell into a coma due to the poison."
"When Quinn was maliciously taken by my business rival, the necklace was probably lost during the escape. Its whereabouts are still unknown."
Christopher paused and sighed, "However, I am grateful to you, Mr. Blackwood, for helping me find my biological daughter. But gratitude can be expressed in many ways, and I won't gamble with Quinn's lifelong happiness. Since you called today, I'll be direct with you."
Magnus said, "Go ahead."
"It's not that I don't recognize you, Mr. Blackwood. In the business world, I respect you; otherwise, Windsor Group wouldn't be collaborating with SY. But as a father looking at a son-in-law, I still don't feel comfortable entrusting Quinn to you. Mr. Blackwood, I don't know how Quinn plans to evaluate you, but as far as I'm concerned, your evaluation period isn't over."
"Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Abbott." Magnus nodded; he could understand.
His strong and obsessive personality was never the type elders liked, especially as a son-in-law. He seemed too cunning.
Just as Christopher was about to hang up.
Magnus suddenly said, "Mr. Abbott, I promise you, the schemes and strategies I use in business will never be used against Juniper."
Holding the phone, his Adam's apple bobbed, and he spoke with utmost seriousness, "You might think I would scheme against everyone, and indeed, I even scheme against myself, so I'm not exactly a pure-hearted person. But Juniper is the one person I wouldn't never dare to scheme against."
It was not that he couldn't, but he wouldn't dare.
To Magnus, Juniper was too important.
After a moment of silence, Christopher smiled faintly, "What guarantee do you offer?"
"Is everything I have enough?"
Christopher was puzzled, "What do you mean?"
Magnus's words came through the phone clearly, "I mean, if I marry Juniper, I'll have a lawyer notarize that all my assets will belong to her. If we divorce, I'll leave with nothing."
On the other end of the line, there was a long silence.
After a long while, Christopher spoke, "Your guarantee is too heavy; Quinn might not accept it. And do you know what this means? Everything you have now, you earned with your own hands. Just by marrying Quinn, you would give all your possessions to someone else. I don't recommend or agree with you doing this."
"If there's no Juniper, none of this means anything. And all my motivation for achieving this comes from Juniper. Twenty-three-year-old Magnus once promised eighteen-year-old Juniper that he would give her the best of everything."
"I keep my promises."
The last sentence was particularly heavy and solemn.
