Chapter 234 Let Juniper go, and I'll go with you.
Out on the wild ocean at night, the waves were going nuts.
The crashing waves made Juniper feel like she was floating away.
Her hands were tied behind her back, gripping the railing for dear life. Her fear of the sea had her palms soaked in sweat.
From afternoon to evening, it had only been a few hours, but to Juniper, it felt like an eternity.
Another half hour crawled by, it was nine-thirty now.
Alexander was pacing, frowning, "Is Magnus too chicken to show up?"
Juniper's pale lips twisted into a mocking grin, "Everyone's scared of dying. Aren't you? I think you're the most scared. You're afraid Magnus won't come, that your mission will flop. Alexander, why don't we just die together?"
She didn't want Magnus to come save her.
If she couldn't escape tonight, she'd rather drag Alexander down with her.
Alexander still had dreams of finishing the mission, moving to a big mansion in Celestia with his wife and kid, becoming a big shot, and living the high life. No way he wanted to die.
He yanked Juniper's hair, his voice nasty, "If you wanna die, don't take me with you! Juniper, you're my daughter, but you're as useless as your mom! So dumb!"
On the deck, Alexander scanned the sea with binoculars.
Suddenly, a white speedboat cut through the waves, heading straight for the yacht.
No other boats around. At this hour, it had to be Magnus.
Alexander put down the binoculars, eyes lighting up, "Magnus is here!"
He looked like he just hit the jackpot.
Juniper's heart pounded.
She slowly turned her head to look at the dark, endless sea. The white speedboat was getting closer, clearer.
She still hoped it wasn't Magnus.
Alexander yanked her up, shoving her against the railing. One push, and she'd be in the water.
The waves were almost touching her, and Juniper's eyelashes fluttered.
Alexander, holding her arm, felt her shaking like a leaf, her face ghostly pale.
She wasn't scared of dying, but now she was trembling?
He looked at the sea, a lightbulb going off, "You're scared of the sea?"
Juniper bit down hard, trying to keep it together.
But Alexander had already figured it out. He tested her with a sudden shove.
Juniper squeezed her eyes shut, screaming, her heart nearly stopping from fear.
Alexander laughed like a jerk, "Juniper, I thought you weren't scared of anything! Turns out, you're scared of the sea! Magnus is almost here. Think he'll be heartbroken and give in when he sees you like this?"
"Alexander Beaumont! You jerk!"
Juniper glared at him, eyes bloodshot, her voice a growl.
As the white speedboat got closer.
The men in black on the yacht raised their guns, ready to fire.
Alexander, holding the bound Juniper with one hand and a gun to her head, shouted at the speedboat 30 feet away, "Magnus! Drop your weapons! Come up alone! Try anything funny, and I'll shoot!"
The gun barrel pressed against Juniper's temple.
Juniper yelled, "Magnus, get outta here! Don't come closer!"
Alexander fired a shot into the air. "Juniper! Shut up!"
The sea breeze whipped Juniper's hair around, her tears scattering and drying instantly.
But the speedboat kept coming, not slowing down.
It pulled up alongside the yacht and stopped.
A familiar figure stood up from the speedboat.
Magnus, decked out in black tactical gear, raised his hands like Alexander said.
He had a black handgun in his right hand.
Alexander barked, "Disarm!"
Magnus spun the gun, extended his arm over the water, and released it, watching it disappear beneath the waves in an instant.
"Now, can I come aboard?" Magnus asked.
At Alexander's nod, a guy in black lowered the yacht's ladder.
Juniper's vision blurred with tears. She cried out, "Don't come up. Magnus, go away!"
But Magnus didn't flinch.
He grabbed a silver briefcase and stepped onto the yacht.
On deck, a man in black pressed a gun to Magnus's temple, "Hands up!"
Magnus tossed the briefcase at Alexander's feet, his voice icy, "Here's five million bucks. Open it and check."
The briefcase popped open, revealing stacks of cash.
Alexander's eyes went wild. He touched the cash with trembling hands and quickly shut the briefcase.
He turned the gun on Magnus!
Magnus, hands up, was at a disadvantage, but he stayed cool, his face showing no fear, calm as a rock.
Even unarmed, Magnus wasn't the same green kid from seven years ago.
His presence alone made Alexander sweat.
That was the vibe of someone who'd fought and survived power struggles for years.
Alexander's grip on the gun tightened, "Magnus, you should never have messed with the Shadow Syndicate! You're dead meat!"
Magnus looked at Juniper, his cold, deadly gaze softening a bit.
He spoke calmly to Alexander, "The Shadow Syndicate wants me, not Juniper. She's useless to you. Let her go, and I'll go with you."
Juniper's voice was raw from shouting, "Magnus! Why are you so stupid! Why did you come! They want to kill you!"
"Juniper, if one of us can make it, I hope it's you," Magnus said. I'm sorry. The one who survives always suffers more.
After Juniper had jumped into the sea, he had felt that kind of excruciating pain and didn't want to experience again.
Juniper, her eyes blurred with tears, shook her head desperately, "If you die, I won't live alone! Magnus, we stand as one, in life and in death!"
Magnus was stubborn.
And so was Juniper.
He smiled at Juniper, "Alright, live and die together."
Alexander was about to pull the trigger.
Magnus suddenly said, "The Shadow Syndicate once approached me, wanting all my resources. This can be negotiated, as long as you release Juniper first."
To Alexander, Magnus was just an enemy.
He didn't want Magnus to join the Shadow Syndicate either!
He raised his gun, ready to kill him, but a masked man in black emerged from the yacht, stopping him, "Wait!"
On this yacht, Alexander wasn't the boss.
The Shadow Syndicate had their own guy overseeing everything, and Alexander was just a pawn.
Magnus looked at the masked man, his words firm, "Release Juniper, and we can talk."
