Chapter 204: If You Cry Again, I'll Kiss You
At the hospital, Magnus had just finished his second bottle of anti-inflammatory fluids when he began to rise from the bed, ready to leave.
Paul quickly said, "Mr. Blackwood, you should stay for observation a bit longer!"
Otherwise, when Juniper arrived at the hospital, she won't even see him.
Wouldn't that be a waste of effort?
Magnus frowned slightly, thinking Paul was being too verbose.
Magnus was about to leave when he bumped into a nurse.
The nurse asked sternly, "Where are you going?"
"The IV is finished, I must leave now," Magnus replied flatly.
"The wound on your arm hasn't been treated yet. You’re not going anywhere. That wound has been soaked in water and is probably in a terrible state. Do you still want to keep that arm?"
Paul immediately said, "Yes, Mr. Blackwood, you should let the nurse treat your wound. If your right arm really gets ruined, Ms. Beaumont will feel terribly guilty."
Paul was smart, he knew that mentioning Juniper would do the trick.
Sure enough, although Magnus kept a stern face and was reluctant, he still sat back down.
The nurse, now wearing medical gloves, carefully removed the gauze from his arm. The wound hadn't healed well, and after being soaked in water, the stitches had slightly opened, revealing raw flesh. It looked quite gruesome.
The nurse frowned, "I'll clean the wound and change the dressing. Then I'll use a post-surgical adhesive. It can't get wet again. If you keep this up, you'll definitely have long-term issues with this arm."
Magnus listened to the nurse's nagging, his face darkening, "If my arm is crippled, I'll take responsibility."
The nurse patiently advised, "I'm advising you for your own good. Your arm is in such bad shape, but you didn't refrain from alcohol and even got soaked in the rain. It's too much. Even though you're handsome, if you really lose an arm, it'll be hard to find a wife in the future!"
Magnus said expressionlessly, "I'll be single for life."
Juniper didn't want him anymore.
Without Juniper, he wouldn't have a wife for the rest of his life.
Paul immediately reassured, "He understands. He won't do it again."
The nurse glanced at Paul and nodded approvingly, "I can tell you have a much better temper than him. You definitely won't have trouble finding a wife."
"Nurse, I already have a wife." Paul smiled.
"I knew it. A good temper is a plus for a man."
Paul chuckled modestly, "Thanks."
After speaking, he glanced at Magnus.
Sure enough, Magnus's face looked even worse.
Seeing that it would take a while, Paul said, "Mr. Blackwood, I'm going to the restroom. Please wait here for a bit."
This was the emergency room.
In the middle of the night, the hallway was bustling with people. It was a chaotic scene.
As soon as Paul stepped out, two medical staff pushed a body covered with a white sheet towards him.
He was about to look away and walk around when a familiar female voice suddenly called out from behind.
"Paul!"
Paul turned around and saw Juniper, "Ms. Beaumont, you're here."
After learning about Magnus's car accident, Juniper had thrown on some clothes and sped to the hospital at over a hundred miles per hour.
She stood there in her slippers, chest heaving, breath catching in her throat, as if she'd run all the way from the parking lot.
"Ms. Beaumont, Mr. Blackwood, he..."Paul said,
Before he could finish, the medical staff pushing the body spoke up, "Please make way!"
Juniper's gaze immediately fell on the body covered with the white sheet.
Paul stood beside the body, hesitant to speak, and she instinctively thought the body was Magnus.
Juniper froze, her watery eyes fixed on the body covered with the white sheet.
The light in her eyes instantly dimmed.
"Magnus..." She took a few wary steps towards the body.
Paul was stunned.
Paul looked at Juniper, then at the body.
Juniper... seemed to have misunderstood something?
Juniper's pale fingers gripped the gurney tightly, her eyes red and wet, "Can I see him one last time?"
The medical staff asked, "Are you the deceased's family member?"
"Yes." Juniper choked up.
He was the father of her child.
The medical staff were somewhat understanding, "Then take a quick look. We'll be taking him to the morgue soon."
Juniper swallowed several times before mustering the courage to lift the sheet.
Just as her hand was about to touch the sheet, she suddenly lost her courage.
She never expected that tonight would be their last meeting.
Juniper choked up, "Can I take him home directly?"
Paul said, "Ms. Beaumont, that's not necessary."
Taking a stranger's body home would be quite terrifying.
Moreover, if the family of this body pursued the matter...
"Ms. Beaumont, actually..."
Juniper was already crying uncontrollably, her limbs numb and her whole body trembling.
She wiped her tears forcefully and squatted down, "Magnus, weren't you supposed to raise Jenny? How could you bear to die?"
At this moment, Magnus walked out of the hospital room and saw Juniper squatting beside a body, crying her heart out.
Paul was almost moved to tears by Juniper's sorrow.
But suddenly, a tall figure appeared beside him.
Paul was startled, "Mr. Blackwood..."
"Juniper, why are you crying?" Magnus asked.
Hadn't he already agreed to let her go?
Juniper's back trembled, thinking it was a hallucination.
She hesitated and slowly turned her head towards the source of the voice, "Magnus."
Magnus took long strides towards Juniper.
"You're not dead," Juniper said in confusion.
In an instant, she was overwhelmed with mixed emotions.
The intense feelings left Juniper's mind blank.
She looked up at him, tears streaming down her face.
Magnus couldn't stand seeing her cry, "Isn't squatting on the ground tiring?"
Juniper didn't answer.
She tried to stand up, but her legs were numb.
Magnus instinctively reached out to steady Juniper, but she suddenly collapsed into his embrace, clinging to his waist as her suppressed sobs burst forth. "I thought you were dead."
Magnus was caught off guard by her hug, his heart racing at her unexpected reaction. "Juniper?"
Juniper didn't respond, probably because she had cried so hard that her ears were ringing, unable to hear anything.
He extended his left arm and wrapped it around her back.
The staff pushing the body couldn't take it anymore, "Can you not block the way here? "
Magnus lifted Juniper with one arm and moved her to the side.
After the body was pushed away, things returned to normal.
Juniper held onto him, feeling his warm body, gradually calming down.
After the calm, there was an awkward silence.
Juniper looked up, trying to explain, "I..."
Magnus bent down slightly, his large hand wiping away her tears, looking at her with a gentle smile, "Blinded by your own tears?"
Juniper remained silent.
"Seems like the only way to get you to cry for me is if I actually die," Magnus continued.
Juniper still didn't speak.
He smirked and said, "But that's enough, Juniper."
At least in her heart, he still mattered a bit.
Juniper bit her lip, and another tear rolled down from her watery eyes.
He wiped it away with his thumb, his voice deep and soothing, "Don't cry anymore. I'm standing right in front of you."
If she kept crying, he wouldn't be able to let her go.
Juniper seemed to still be in shock, her lips moving but unable to speak.
They had known each other for thirteen years and understood each other well.
When Juniper was anxious, she always wanted to hug. Sometimes, they would just hold each other without speaking, and it could last for hours.
She buried her face in Magnus's chest, smelling his scent.
Maybe because he always used incense sticks while smoking, he had a faint smell of tobacco mixed with a hint of incense.
"I thought you were dead,"Juniper said lightly.
Magnus tightened his arm, holding her close with one hand, gently rubbing her fragrant hair, "Yeah, I know."
Every time Juniper cried, Magnus's heart ached.
He finally lowered his head, his voice hoarse as he comforted her, "Don't cry anymore, okay?"
Juniper felt a wave of frustration at herself. It was astonishing how devastated she'd been, all because she thought he was gone.
She squeezed out the last bit of tears from her eyes and stopped crying.
At this moment, a voice sounded above her head, "If you keep crying, I'll have to kiss you."
Juniper slowly pushed him away.
The fabric of Magnus's black shirt on his chest was already wet, a darker patch marking where her tears had fallen.
He chuckled softly.
After such a big misunderstanding, Juniper felt a bit awkward.
She wiped the tear stains from her face with the back of her hand and walked forward with her head down, "Let's go home."
Magnus stood behind her, and when he looked down, he saw her wearing slippers.
Without warning, he scooped her up in his arms, her body suddenly weightless.
Startled, Juniper instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. "My slipper fell off," she said softly.
Magnus didn't look back, carrying her out of the hospital, only calling out, "Paul."
Paul, dutiful as ever, picked up the slipper and followed them.
If Magnus didn't give Paul a raise this month, he was going to make a fuss.
