Chapter 171 Reluctant to Burn
Sinclair held the photo and handed the lighter to Michael.
Michael didn't take it and just frowned at her, a hint of weariness in his eyes, "Is this really neccessary?? It's just a photo."
Sinclair tugged at the corner of her lips, a pale smile on her face, yet determined.
"If it's just a photo, why hesitate?" she asked.
Michael said it was just a photo. Once burned, Sinclair wouldn't argue with him anymore.
But why was Michael unwilling to burn it?
Sinclair was pregnant. She wanted to stay by his side, to be close to him.
However, Michael's heart belonged to Juniper. As long as Juniper remained in his heart, Sinclair couldn't break through to him, no matter what.
"Sinclair, it's just a lingering attachment. You know that Juniper and I are alumni. There's really nothing between us. Don't make a fuss, okay? Burning the photo isn't right. I promise, I'll lock this photo away and never look at it again, okay?"
Michael thought that if he made a concession, Sinclair would follow suit and things would end there.
But this time, Sinclair seemed resolute.
Sinclair looked at Michael, her eyes reddening, and shakedher head, "No, you burn the photo, and then I'll have the courage to marry you."
Initially, Sinclair thought that as long as she loved him enough, she could tolerate him holding another woman in his heart.
But people are inherently greedy.
Sinclair wanted him to look at her with affection, to involuntarily call out her name in sleep.
She wanted Michael to call for Sinclair, not Juniper.
Sinclair stuffed the photo and lighter into his hands, a lump forming in her throat, "You said it's just a photo. Once burned, it's gone. Will you burn it, please?"
There was a hint of pleading in Sinclair's tone. Tears started to fall.
Seeing her cry, Michael couldn't help but be moved.
He took the photo andthe lighter, and lit it.
As Michael watched the vibrant Juniper in the photo, memories flooded back.
Once Magnus brought Juniper to have dinner with him. Back then, Juniper wasn't as reserved as she was now; she was lively.
When Magnus brought her over, she playfully punched Michael from behind, using Magnus's arm.
Michael initially thought there was trouble, but when he turned around only sawJuniper smiling and saying, "He did it, not me. You must be Michael, right? I've seen you in the school newspaper."
In that bustling night market beside the university, her smile was bright and lively.
Juniper had a pure and innocent appearen. When she smiled, she looked even more sweet and radiant. It was irresistible to any man.
Later, as Magnus's career took off, he was always busy.
Once on a storming day, Juniper sat in a convenience store near the university.
Michael happened to walk in and saw her. He asked why she was alone there.
She had forgotten her umbrella, and Magnus, who promised to pick her up, hadn't finished work yet. She had been waiting for over three hours and decided to run back in the rain if he didn't show up soon.
At that moment, Michael thought she was incredibly patient. Waiting for her boyfriend for over three hours without getting upset was commendable.
Other girls would have probably caused a scene and threatened to break up.
However, Juniper was understanding, so much so that she couldn't bring herself to call Magnus to remind him.
Juniper's unwavering loyalty and devotion were truly touching.
Perhaps her action struck a chord with Michael, he handed her his umbrella.
Those memories flooded his mind uncontrollably.
Michael closed his eyes, extinguishing the lighter.
The flame suddenly went out.
He cleared his throat and asked Sinclair, "Apart from burning this photo, what else can I do to reassure you?"
There was a moment of tense silence.
Sinclair felt a sharp pain in her heart, as if pricked by needles.
She gave a cool smile, "So, even if I argued with you over this photo, even if I didn't want to marry you because of this photo... you still can't bear to burn it, can you?"
