Chapter 76 Magnus, Don't Leave

The man's handsome face was stern.

Juniper said, "I have to criticize you for this. If you're going to come home with me, the least you could do is not make that face. Smile a little."

She flashed him a fake smile, signaling him to do the same.

Instead, his expression turned even more grim!

Resigned, Juniper wobbled to her feet.

She stared at his face and, reaching up to touch it, she sighed, "You're really handsome, you know. Why don't you come home with me?"

Tugging on his tie, she pulled him a bit closer.

"Juniper!"

Magnus clenched his jaws, his whole face shadowed with annoyance.

Juniper was clearly drunk and acting crazy.

She didn't even recognize Magnus. Why would she be afraid of him?

She patted his handsome face and lectured, "Aggressive again? You're quite bold, aren't you? Do you think just because you're good-looking, you can get away with anything? You're spoiled."

She yanked at his tie.

The man caught her wrist and pulled.

Juniper stumbled into his chest.

They locked eyes for a few seconds.

Juniper suddenly broke into a giggly laugh.

"Juniper..."

He was about to scold her.

But the soft touch of her lips suddenly silenced him, pressing against his own.

Juniper, drowsy and inebriated, quickly slumped into his arms.

Magnus looked down at her, exhaling a soft sigh.

Eventually, he carried her to the car.

He drove her home.

Just as he laid her on the bed, his phone started ringing.

It was a call from the Royal View Hotel.

Upon answering, he heard Jennifer's voice, "Dad, how's mom?"

"She's drunk. I've brought her home."

"Oh, okay. Is mom alright?"

Magnus glanced at the woman on the bed, her face red but without hives. She must have taken some antihistamines before drinking.

"She's fine."

After hanging up, Magnus was ready to leave.

He had done the right thing by picking her up from the bar and bringing her home.

Just as he was about to go, Juniper caught hold of his pants.

"Magnus, don't leave."
She was nearing her end and wanted to selfishly ask him to stay with her, even if just for a moment.

The man paused.

With his back to her, he stood there, emotion swirling within him.

In his world, there was no room for hesitation.

But with Juniper, he second-guessed himself over and over, becoming someone unrecognizable to himself.

Emotions were brutally overpowering.

Like now, he wanted to leave, yet he found himself sitting by the bedside.

It seemed as though fate had never given him a choice.

Perhaps long ago, something called destiny had chosen a much tougher path for them.

Juniper was intoxicated, drifting between consciousness and dreams.

She seemed to be haunted by unbearable memories.

Her eyes were red and wet with tears as she gripped his hand tightly, muttering over and over.

She said, "Magnus, I'm sorry."

He looked at her, a pang of pain striking his heart.

He raised his hand to touch her face but froze.

He withdrew his hand.

Some things, once they happen, are like embedded thorns, inseparable and pressing deep into the flesh.

The so-called letting go was nothing more than a self-deceiving "never mind."

Before leaving, he took a deep, lingering look at her.

He had only gone to pick her up from the bar tonight because she was Jennifer's mother.

In his life, aside from that role, she held no other.

And that was all there would ever be.

After dropping Jennifer off at Royal View, Juniper had a heavy drinking session and slept for three days at home.

On Monday, she returned to her job at the SY Sales Department.

Arriving at the sales office, she bumped into a regular client.

"Mr. Abbott?"

Christopher saw her and beamed, "Mr. Beaumont, I didn't expect to run into you again. But you don’t seem in the best of spirits compared to before. Has work been too taxing lately?"

Concern flickered in Christopher's deep-set eyes.

Juniper offered a faint smile, "Maybe that's it. Are you here at the sales office to buy a property today, Mr. Abbott?"

"Oh, I'm here to check out the large apartment I bought last time. If you're available, how about you show me?"

"Sure thing."

Juniper led Christopher to the residential complex.

"I remember it's in Building 6, Unit 1, on the 13th floor, right?" she asked.

Christopher nodded, "Yes, you got it right."

Juniper took Christopher into Building 6.

Christopher, recalling the last time they had dealings with the contract, mentioned it: "It was my fault last time. We agreed to sign together, but I was in a hurry and went ahead without you. It only occurred to me later that I might have undercut your sales performance."
"It's alright, Mr. Abbott, no matter whom you sign with, they are still part of the group's clientele."

Christopher kept his gaze on Juniper, his eyes reflecting kindness and warmth.

Juniper initially thought there might be something dirty on her face. "Mr. Abbott, what's the matter?"

"The first time I saw you, I felt an inexplicable fondness, like I was looking at my daughter. How old are you, Mr. Beaumont?"

"I'm 24. How old is your daughter now?"

Mentioning his daughter brought a hint of sorrow to Christopher's eyes. "My daughter was taken away right after she was born, and I've never been able to find her. She would be 24 years old now."

"I'm so sorry to hear that, Mr. Abbott."

"It's okay, no harm done. The reason for my trip to the Imperial Capital was primarily for company business development, and secondly, to try my luck at finding her. But after so many years, whether she's alive or not is unknown."

Juniper didn't know how to comfort him and simply said, "Don't lose hope. Maybe you'll have the good fortune to find your daughter."

"Let's hope you're right."

After looking at the property, they walked out of the neighborhood.

"Mr. Beaumont, I feel a strong connection to you. Why don't we exchange contact information? You can get in touch if you need anything."

Juniper was pleasantly surprised. "I'd be honored. But I may be leaving SY soon and I'm not going to be selling real estate anymore."

Christopher couldn't help but ask, "Have you found a better job?"

Juniper shook her head. "Not yet, but I'm planning to take a break and not think about a new job for a while."

Christopher handed her his business card. "If you're interested in my company, come and try working with us."

Juniper accepted the card and gave him hers as well. "Thank you, Mr. Abbott."

She opened the car door for Christopher and watched as the vehicle drove away. Lowering her eyes, she looked at the card— "Chairman of Windsor Group, Christopher."
