Chapter 243 Where is Magnus?

"Magnus, are you still out there? They said you were gone, but Jenny and I are waiting. It's been a week. We lit candles and stayed up, but you never came. Even if you don't want to see me, don't you want to see Jenny? Why did you lie? We promised to stick together. Is this payback because I lied before? I'm trying to run the company, but the shareholders are a nightmare, and I have no management skills. If you don't come back, what if I ruin everything?"

"It's raining in the Imperial Capital, and it's gotten so cold since fall started. You used to remind me to bundle up and not catch a cold. You'd make me my favorite cappuccino every day."

"I found that little sketchbook in your drawer. Didn't you tear it up before? Why did you piece it back together? Yeah, I know I'm asking the obvious, but if you could just answer me, even if it's not what I want to hear. Magnus, talk to me, even if it's just one sentence."

"Magnus, good night."

After listening to each message over and over, he just sat there, lost in thought for a long time.

In the voice messages, Juniper's voice was calm, cold, and gentle.

Since their breakup seven years ago, this was the first time Juniper had spoken so much to him, even without a response.

She used his chat window as a memo, sending her thoughts, company documents, contracts, numbers, and account passwords.

But he couldn't respond to her.

Once Venomshade's poison hit the heart, it was over.

He didn't want her to be sad all over again.

He had been through it, so he knew that the living always have it harder.

Half a month after Magnus's accident, Juniper had just taken over the company. She was swamped and overwhelmed, with no clear direction.

Robert had also stayed up several nights working with her and couldn't take it anymore, so he called Michael over.

With Magnus gone and Juniper in charge, she needed capable assistants.

As one of the company's shareholders, Michael had to come back to help Juniper, both emotionally and logically.

But he brought Sinclair with him.

Robert took a sip of coffee and joked. "I called you here to work, not to bring your wife for a visit."

Michael said, "Sinclair just got out of the hospital not long ago. She doesn't remember things from before. When she heard I was meeting old friends, she wanted to come along to see if she could remember some people and events."

Juniper looked at Sinclair, slightly stunned. "Amnesia?"

Michael nodded. "Yeah, from a car accident."

Sinclair also looked at Juniper, feeling that she was very familiar. "Ms. Beaumont, I feel like we've met before?"

"We have met a few times. Do you still remember me?" Juniper replied.

"A little, but it's very vague."

Seeing her trying hard to remember, Michael said, "Your body just recovered, don't push yourself too hard."

After a while, Robert and Michael were called away by the legal department.

Only Juniper and Sinclair were left.

Juniper got up prepare to pour some water. "Sinclair, do you want tea or coffee?"

"Tea, please."

Juniper made a cup of tea and handed it to Sinclair, curious about her amnesia. "Have you forgotten anything?"

"When I first woke up, my mind was a blank slate. I didn't even know who I was. But lately, some memories have been coming back in bits and pieces."

Sinclair wanted to regain her memory.

But Juniper envied her ability to forget. "Honestly, forgetting the past isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes, remembering certain things feels like a punishment. If you can forget, it might actually be a blessing."

Before coming to SY, Sinclair had already learned from Michael about the relationship between Juniper and Magnus and about Magnus's death.

Juniper's current thoughts were understandable.

Because forgetting could help a person quickly recover from deep wounds.

But it was like a besieged city: those with amnesia wanted to remember, while those who wanted to forget never could.

Sinclair looked at Juniper, her head aching slightly. She pressed her temples.

Juniper supported her. "What's wrong? Does your head hurt?"

"I don't know why, but I feel like there's something I need to tell you, and I just can't remember. Seeing you now, the feeling is even stronger," Sinclair said, worried.

Juniper was confused.

"I don't know, but it feels important. Otherwise, I wouldn't have this nagging feeling."

But Sinclair couldn't remember, and Juniper couldn't force her.

"Rest for now. If your head hurts, don't push it," Juniper said, patting Sinclair on the shoulder.

In the afternoon, Juniper had just finished a meeting and returned to her office to find a cup of hot coffee on her desk.

Juniper was suddenly stunned, her face visibly changing.

"Robert, who brought this coffee in?" Juniper asked.

"Paul brought it from the front desk. We all have one. What's wrong?"

Juniper's heart raced. "Who bought it?"

"Paul bought it. He saw we've been working overtime and ordered coffee."

"Impossible," Juniper shouted.

How could Paul know she loved hot cappuccino with vanilla syrup? Not many people added vanilla syrup to cappuccino.

Robert frowned slightly. "Is there a problem?"

"Where is Magnus?" Juniper was anxious.

At that moment, Paul happened to walk in.

Juniper scrutinized him, interrogating, "Did you order this coffee?"

"Yes, is it not to your taste? Should I order another one?"

Juniper interrupted him, her tone urgent, "How did you know I love hot cappuccino with vanilla syrup? Is Magnus still alive? Where is he?"

Paul took a deep breath and pursed his lips. "I know it's hard for you to accept Mr. Blackwood's death, but I did order this coffee. As for how I knew you liked cappuccino, Mr. Blackwood mentioned it before. I'm not lying to you. If Mr. Blackwood were still alive, why would I hide it from you?"

Paul indeed had no reason to lie to her.

But why would Magnus tell Paul such small details? Preferences were very private matters.

Juniper felt something was off.

But if Magnus were still alive, why wouldn't he show up? Even if he didn't want to see her, what about Jenny?

He had no reason not to see Jenny.

Seeing Juniper's suspicion, Robert said, "I think you've been working too hard lately. How about taking a day off tomorrow to rest? It's Saturday, and Jenny is off too. You can take Jenny out."

"Do you know where Magnus is?" Juniper asked.

"What? Me?"
