Chapter 390 My Wife (1)
Hearing this question, Juniper, sitting in the last row of the lecture hall, felt an inexplicable tightness in her chest.
Ophelia leaned over and chuckled, "Mr. Blackwood wouldn't really be calling roll, would he?"
Juniper suddenly felt a strong wave of social anxiety.
This lecture hall was enormous, and at a glance, it was packed with at least five hundred people.
Juniper asked, "Did you finish taking the pictures?"
Ophelia saw through her thoughts immediately, "Yeah, I did. Why, you planning to sneak out?"
On the stage, Magnus looked towards the last row.
Through the crowd, Juniper and Magnus locked eyes.
Just as Magnus was about to answer a student's question, Juniper and Ophelia crouched down and sneaked towards the back door like thieves.
Magnus, holding the microphone, smiled as he watched the sneaky figure leave and answered, "She is indeed from our school and your senior."
A curious student asked, "What's her name? Which year and department is she from?"
By this time, Juniper had already "safely" exited the lecture hall.
Magnus chuckled and said, "I won't mention her name specifically. She's quite shy and doesn't like being in the spotlight. I also don't want our future married life to be disturbed by too many people. The personal life stories I mentioned earlier, just take them as casual anecdotes."
Although the atmosphere of the lecture in the hall was relaxed, it wasn't quite appropriate to call out names and show off romantic relationships in an academic setting.
Juniper and Ophelia had just left the lecture hall and planned to stroll around the school's couple's garden and take some photos of couples.
As they crossed the campus road, a black Bentley stopped in front of them.
The rear window slowly rolled down, revealing Thomas.
He looked directly at Ophelia and asked bluntly, "Do you have a moment? I need to talk to you."
Ophelia forced a smile, "Mr. Hawthorne, didn't you already know my situation? It's not convenient to catch up..."
Thomas interrupted her, staring straight at her, "Don't you want to know why I suddenly left Imperial Capital five years ago?"
Ophelia froze, her whole body stiffening.
Seeing her hesitation, Thomas got out of the car and personally opened the door.
He didn't touch her, just held the door with one hand and the car roof with the other, his posture gentlemanly yet assertive. "You have the right to know what happened five years ago, even if it's just to put a complete end to our story. If, after knowing why I left, you still choose to live as you do now, I will respect that and disappear from your life completely."
Ophelia's fingers tightened around her camera.
Juniper was about to say something.
Thomas had already taken the camera from Ophelia's hands, "Get in the car, it won't take much of your time, at most half an hour?"
Ophelia swallowed and turned to Juniper, "Juniper, I..."
Juniper understood her attitude and only asked, "Do you want me to go with you?"
"No, I need to handle my own feelings."
Juniper nodded, "Then call me if you need anything."
Ophelia got into the car.
The black Bentley slowly drove towards the back gate of the school.
Juniper was a bit worried but felt powerless. She sighed and was about to walk towards the school's rock garden.
Then she ran into Electra and Clio.
But this time, Electra was holding the arm of a middle-aged man, her high-ranking official father.
Electra taunted, "Juniper, are you feeling down because you saw Magnus's fiancée and felt inferior?"
Juniper didn't want to cause trouble for herself, so she said, "I didn't see anyone, just had a bad day, stepped in dog poop twice."
Electra reacted quickly, glaring, "Who are you calling dog poop?"
Juniper replied calmly, "Whoever asks."
Electra's father, Hayden Ross, heard this and his face darkened, "How can you insult someone like that?"
Juniper said, "Mr. Ross, it was your daughter who first encouraged me to be someone's mistress."
Hayden immediately looked down at Electra, "Is that true?"
"Dad, I didn't! You usually keep such a tight rein on me, how could I say something like that? It's Juniper, Juniper was messing around with men at 18 and got pregnant, what kind of good person gets pregnant out of wedlock at 18? Dad, she has no manners, she insulted me first!"
Of course, Hayden believed his precious daughter.
Moreover, hearing about someone getting pregnant out of wedlock at 18 made Hayden think she was unreliable.
His view of Juniper immediately changed, seeing her through a thick lens of prejudice.
Hayden, used to being a leader, liked to command people.
With a magnanimous look, he pointed at Juniper and said kindly, "Just apologize, and this matter will be over. Electra just has a quick temper, don't take it to heart."
Electra, holding Hayden's arm, raised her chin, her eyes full of pride.
Juniper laughed in anger, "Why should I apologize? If you want to comfort your daughter, you apologize to her yourself, why make me do it?"
Electra snapped, "Juniper, don't go too far!"
Hayden couldn't hold back anymore and, in a tone of a senior and a leader, said, "I'm talking to you nicely, what's with your attitude? I came to Imperial Capital University today because of my daughter's face to attend your alma mater's anniversary. I know your school leaders well, and we'll have dinner together tonight. As a fellow Imperial Capital University alum, how can you have such poor manners?"
Electra sneered, "Dad, are you kidding? With her status, how could she have the right to sit at the same table with us tonight? She only donated five hundred dollars, she's not a notable alum, the school would be ashamed of her, let alone invite her to the appreciation dinner tonight. Inviting her to eat in the cafeteria would be more like it!"
Clio, seeing this, walked to Juniper's side and whispered, "Juniper, he's a high-ranking official, just lower your head and apologize, and this will be over, don't be stubborn."
Juniper smirked, "So being a high-ranking official means she can force someone to apologize?"
"But her dad is a government official..."
Juniper only recognized reason, "Even if the President came, if I didn't do anything wrong, I wouldn't apologize. If you want someone to apologize, find someone else, I have things to do, I'm leaving."
Electra was furious, "Dad, look at her attitude towards you! Even the principal has to show you respect, who does she think she is!"
Juniper walked away.
Clio comforted Electra, "Anyway, Juniper isn't in the same league as you, don't bother with her. She's just a small-time citizen trying to act high and mighty while struggling to make a living!"
Electra's red lips curled up, "True, and she really isn't worthy of Magnus at all. Her? There's no way the school leaders would invite her to the appreciation dinner tonight."
The appreciation dinner tonight was a great opportunity to network and expand social circles.
Because those invited by the school were either notable alumni or leaders like Hayden.
Clio, holding Electra's arm, said softly, "Electra, take me to the dinner tonight, I'm also curious to see what Magnus's fiancée looks like!"
