Chapter 239 Can We See Dad Tonight
Ophelia didn't even blink, "Huh?"
Robert raised an eyebrow, giving her a sideways glance, "You said guys love to act all lovey-dovey, but girls are different. They don't always show how deeply they feel. Are you like that?"
He was genuinely curious. Did she have a little crush on Thomas or was she head over heels?
Ophelia smirked, "I'm not Juniper. I'm just like you guys. I only feel a little love, but I make it sound like a lot."
Robert mirrored her smirk, "Nice, you are a smooth talker."
It was hard to tell if he was praising her or throwing shade.
Ophelia sighed, getting real, "Girls like Juniper are rare these days. Magnus is deas, and she might actually do something crazy. I should check in on her every day to make sure she's okay. But she was never the type to be obsessed with love. Can someone really love another person that much?"
Was this the power of a first love?
Thomas was also Ophelia's first love.
If Thomas died, would she be willing to die with him?
Ophelia thought about it and realized she wouldn't. Maybe she was just more heartless?
In college, she always thought Magnus and Juniper were madly in love. Even when she occasionally invited Juniper to watch a movie, Magnus would come to take her back, his possessiveness was off the charts.
Juniper couldn't even look at anyone else, not even another woman.
She was reminiscing about the past.
Robert tapped the steering wheel with his long fingers and casually asked, "If the person you loved died, would you have thoughts of dying with them?"
Ophelia immediately shook her head, "Am I crazy? Is my phone not fun enough or is the wine not good enough? Besides, if I died, who would inherit my wall of designer bags? I'll live as long as I can in this colorful world."
If a lover died, just found another one. Why got so hung up? There were plenty of men. Feeling the abs of a young, handsome guy was such a joy.
Robert stared at her and laughed.
But that laugh didn't reach his eyes, and there was a hint of coldness.
If he accidentally got hurt on a mission and wasn't even dead yet, Ophelia would probably be out looking for another man that very night.
Robert frowned deeply; he was puzzled.
She and Juniper are good friends, shouldn't they be alike?
After all, birds of a feather flock together.
Juniper was so deeply in love, how did she end up being friends with Ophelia?
Ophelia changed the subject, "But I can understand Juniper. After all, men like Magnus, who are both clean and deeply affectionate, are rare. Back in college, Magnus would never let Juniper suffer even if he was broke. When they were short on rent, he wouldn't let Juniper work a summer job. If he were a jerk, who would want to die for him? If a jerk dies, everyone should be celebrating."
Ophelia's words were full of praise for Magnus as an exceptionally good man.
With his wife praising his best friend so openly, any man would feel a bit jealous.
Robert snorted, "What, you like Magnus too?"
"He is a top-tier, clean, and deeply affectionate handsome guy, who wouldn't like him? Don't you like him too?" Ophelia asked.
"What did you say?" Robert was unbelievable.
Ophelia bit her lip. She let that one slip.
But if Magnus really kicked the bucket, it wouldn't just be Juniper who'd be bummed. Robert should be so sad.
Ophelia gently patted his shoulder, trying to comfort him, "Hey, there are still plenty of good dudes out there. Don't be too down. You'll meet more awesome friends."
Robert was speechless, his face looking like he just bit into a lemon.
He sneered, suddenly pulled the car over, and gritted his teeth, "Get out."
"Didn't you say you'd give me a ride to the magazine office?" Ophelia was confused.
"Not anymore."
"I'm wearing high heels today."
Robert didn't budge, cold as ice.
Ophelia glared at him, angrily unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car.
The black Cullinan sped off, kicking up dust.
Ophelia took off one high heel and hurled it fiercely at his car, "Damn it! How could you just ditch me like this?"
If he died, she'd be out dating other guys the next day!
She actually worried he'd be sad over his best friend and tried to comfort him? What a waste of her sympathy.
Ophelia hopped on one foot to pick up her other high heel and put it back on.
But it was really strange. Magnus was his best friend, and now they didn't know if he was dead or alive. Yet Robert didn't seem to care much?
Robert was truly heartless!
After Magnus had an accident in international waters, Robert temporarily took over the company's affairs, with Paul assisting as the board secretary.
Day after day, the feedback from Paul was always the same: no news yet.
They waited in despair until the seventh day.
Juniper finally couldn't hold on.
Jenny kept asking her, "Where did Daddy go?"
Juniper held her little hand and decided to be honest, "Jenny, he might never come back."
Jenny looked incredulous, "Why? Is Daddy with another woman? Does he have another wife and kids out there?"
Juniper looked at her cute little face, and her eyes immediately welled up.
Jenny, full of righteous indignation, said, "Mommy, don't cry! Where is Daddy? Let's go find him and settle this! If he doesn't want to come back, we don't need him! My classmate told me that a child born out of an affair is called an illegitimate child, and it's very shameful! I'll tell everyone and make him ashamed, okay?"
Juniper's eyes turned red, and she said hoarsely, "We can't find him. He might have become a star in the sky like Grandma."
"Become a star? Mommy, you mean Daddy went to the sky to enjoy himself like Grandma?" Jenny asked.
"Yes, Jenny, I'm sorry. Daddy did it to save Mommy..."
Jenny's face fell, and the next second, she opened her mouth and started crying loudly.
Juniper hugged her tightly. Even though she couldn't control her own sadness, she still stroked Jenny's little head and tried to comfort her, "Don't cry, I am here."
Jenny hugged her neck, her big eyes filled with tears, "Mommy, it's just the two of us now. Grandma is gone, Daddy is gone too. Is the sky really that fun? Why do they all go there?"
Juniper raised her hand to wipe her tears and sniffed, "I don't know either. Jenny, Daddy loves us very much. Even if he's not here, he'll always be with us."
Jenny pouted and asked, "Can we see Daddy tonight?"
