Chapter 290 Patricia at Her Wit's End
The manager stormed off, muttering curses under his breath.
Patricia just stood there, gripping the stack of tips, tears of anger and frustration streaming down her face. She was about to burst with all the crap she was dealing with.
Fierce hatred churned in her heart.
Sinclair!
This was all on Sinclair!
If she hadn't stirred up Michael, he wouldn't have cut off Patricia's allowance, kicked her out of Imperial Capital, or even thought about throwing her in jail!
How was this any different from being completely wrecked?
She was used to living the high life, and now she was stuck here, scraping by for some dirty cash, like she was in a never-ending pit. This wasn't the life she was meant to have!
She clutched her phone tight, tears falling one by one.
First, she called her so-called good friend Matthew.
He picked up fast.
Patricia's eyes lit up. Out of all her fair-weather friends, hardly anyone would take her calls. Matthew's quick answer gave her a bit of hope.
"Matthew, you..."
A lazy voice came from the other end. "Oh, it's Patricia. What's up?"
Patricia bit her lip. Despite her pride, she couldn't afford to care about her dignity right now.
She forced herself to speak, "Can you... lend me a hundred thousand dollars? Don't worry, I'll pay you back."
Matthew snorted, "Everyone knows Michael kicked you out. Patricia, you're basically a nobody now. Who's gonna lend you money? It's a miracle they're not laughing at you."
Patricia desperately explained, "Michael and I aren't really on the outs. He's just teaching me a lesson because I was being reckless. But you have to understand, I'm his only sister. No matter what I do, he won't truly abandon me."
She rambled on, fearing rejection, and added, "Matthew, I'll eventually return to Imperial Capital and our circle. Lending me a hundred thousand dollars now is just a small favor for you. When I come back, it won't be awkward between us."
Matthew laughed even harder, almost mockingly. "Patricia, you still don't get it, do you? Even if Michael softens, you probably can't return to Imperial Capital. Who's gonna lend you money? But since we were once friends, let me give you some advice, stop calling people in our circle for money. If they don't answer, they're being kind. If they're a bit more malicious, they might use the opportunity to find out where you are and sell that information to Magnus. You wouldn't even know how you died!"
Patricia's heart skipped a beat, stunned. "What... do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said. You better run. If you don't, Magnus's people will catch you, and it'll be worse than jail! When you tricked me into approaching Juniper, I didn't know she was Magnus's woman. If I had known, I wouldn't have dared. You're really stupid to mess with Magnus. He's a ruthless climber in the financial world, even my dad respects him. And you dared to provoke him?" Matthew's words pierced her like arrows through the phone.
She clutched her phone, curled up in a corner, feeling colder by the second.
It had to be Sinclair, that backstabbing bitch, who ratted her out to Magnus!
She was shaking and crying, begging. "Matthew, please, just this once! I'll owe you big time when this is all over!"
Matthew sighed, sounding defeated. "Run, Patricia. You can't come back to Imperial Capital. Coming back means death. It's not that I'm heartless. Even your brother probably can't help you now. You're on your own!"
And with that, the call ended with a busy tone.
He hung up.
Patricia hugged herself, tears of fear streaming down her face.
She curled up, sobbing.
After what felt like an eternity, she wiped her tears and, not ready to give up, called Michael.
Only Michael could save her now. If he pleaded with Magnus, there might still be hope!
The phone rang forever before he finally picked up.
She was so relieved she almost lost her voice. "Michael..."
She couldn't help but cry again.
"Patricia? Where are you?" Michael asked.
"Michael, I..." She was about to say she was in Ocean City but remembered Matthew's warning and stopped.
Michael's voice was stern. "Was Juniper's mother's death related to you? Did you do it?"
She instinctively denied, "It wasn't me, Michael, you have to believe me! Did Sinclair tell Magnus? Michael, you have to explain to Magnus that Juniper's mother's death had nothing to do with me! If you don't help me, I'm doomed!"
Michael clearly didn't believe her anymore, only saying in disappointment, "Patricia, if you keep lying, there's no saving you."
"Michael, are you bewitched by that bitch Sinclair? If you don't help me, just watch me die! Michael, you're too cruel, I'm your sister! How can you do this to me!"
Michael was silent for a long time.
Finally, he said sadly, "Patricia, even now, you don't see your mistakes? You caused two deaths. If Sinclair hadn't been lucky, it would have been three. Tell me where you are. If you turn yourself in, there might be a chance. If Magnus's people find you, you'll be dead for sure."
"Turn myself in? Spend my life in jail? Michael, you want me to go to jail, but what about what I want? Let me tell you, Michael, I'm in this situation because you always sided with outsiders! If you had helped me from the start, I would have married Magnus by now! And you would have Juniper! What have you gained now? Will Sinclair still want to be with you after knowing the truth about the accident?" Patricia screamed into the phone, crying hysterically.
She despised Michael for being such a goody-two-shoes!
Michael swallowed, chuckling bitterly. "Yeah, what have I gained? Nothing. It's my fault you ended up like this."
Michael hung up.
Panicking, she called back, but his phone was off.
Realizing Michael had abandoned her, she was seized by an overwhelming fear.
It was over, truly over.
She stood up, feeling dizzy, and walked back into the club, grabbing a middle-aged man who looked successful.
She had no other options.
She stammered, "Help me, I'll do anything you want! A hundred thousand dollars for one night!"
As long as she earned that money tonight, she could escape far away.
