Chapter 284 I Will Always Be Yours
Juniper wrapped her arms around his neck and hesitated, "Magnus?"
He gave her waist a playful pinch and chuckled, a bit disappointed. "Is that all?"
She knew what he wanted to hear.
But if the name wasn't right, the words wouldn't feel true. She just couldn't say it.
Some things didn't just disappear by ignoring them.
They both knew better than to bring it up.
Juniper wasn't about to stir the pot now. She whispered in his ear, "Jenny's dad?"
It sounded nice, but Magnus wasn't a fan of that title.
It made it seem like his identity was all about Jenny, which bugged him.
His eyes darkened, and he pinched her cheek with his long fingers. "Are you trying to get a rise out of me?"
Juniper looked him in the eye and, for some reason, said, "You haven't even proposed, what title do you expect?"
After she said that, the mood in the room shifted.
She didn't want to mess things up now, it would kill the vibe.
Magnus stiffened, a flash of guilt crossing his eyes.
Juniper knew he wouldn't have an answer and didn't push it. She smiled a bit and said, "Jenny's at the Abbotts', and I'm still a bit worried."
She reached for her phone on the bedside table and saw it was one in the morning.
"I'll stay for another half hour and leave at one-thirty. By the way, when are you heading back to Imperial Capital?" she asked calmly.
She didn't make a big deal out of it.
But when she looked at him, Magnus saw the disappointment in her eyes.
He pulled her close, hugging her tight. "Juniper."
Juniper's gaze was still gentle.
She seemed to have a lot of patience with him.
Magnus pressed his forehead against hers, his heart aching. "Have I hurt you too much?"
Juniper smiled faintly. "Yeah, it's been tough, but what can I do? It's my own doing, and this bad outcome is probably karma. A lot of people don't want me with you, thinking I'm not good enough, which is pretty normal."
She blamed it all on the scandal from seven years ago.
Magnus, feeling heartache, couldn't do much else.
He just held her tighter.
If he proposed now and tied her to him with a marriage certificate, it would only put her in more danger.
Keeping his distance and sending her to Solara was the safest move.
He didn't want to risk her, so he asked, "Do you hate me?"
Juniper said self-mockingly, "What right or reason do I have to hate you? I chose to be with you."
Magnus probably didn't get how much she wanted to be with him. There were times she thought, as long as she could be with him, it didn't matter if they had to hide from the public and the media.
She never liked sharing her private life with the world anyway.
But people were complicated.
Even though she didn't care about others' opinions, she still wanted to stand openly with Magnus. However, she was unsure if he felt the same.
Sometimes, after being in a relationship for so long, the passion and surprises faded, leaving only habit and dependence.
They were stuck in the good old days, not ready to let go. But maybe the love was already gone.
Like people said not date for more than three years. After three or five years, it's hard to get anywhere.
In the end, it's just sunk costs and routine keeping you together.
But Juniper knew she was different.
Her feelings for Magnus weren't just habit.
Even after all these years, seeing him still made her heart race.
Like now, she should be mad he didn't make a move. But just holding each other felt like a luxury.
She was scared that if she got mad, it would really be over.
People were complicated. Sometimes, someone would die for you, but if they said they didn't love you anymore, they could stop just like that.
She looked up at him and said, "Magnus, I'm still here because you won't marry me, but you promised you wouldn't marry anyone else. If one day you can't even do that, I might hate you."
This wasn't a negotiation, just a reminder.
Magnus gently held the back of her neck, filled her again, and looked into her eyes. "Juniper, I'll always be yours."
All his love and heartbeats, once given to her, were never given to anyone else, even when he hated her.
After mentioning divorce to Michael, Sinclair left Maple Villa and moved to the Imperial Capital.
That was Michael's place, not hers.
After hearing the whole story, Mila transferred two million dollars into Sinclair's account, telling her to take care of herself and not to settle.
Sinclair rented a small apartment for now.
The future was uncertain, but divorcing Michael was a done deal.
But for some reason, Michael wouldn't sign the papers.
The troublemaker, Patricia, was still missing, and Sinclair didn't have the energy to deal with the divorce.
Half-asleep, a sudden knock on the door woke her.
Sinclair sat up and listened.
The knocking didn't stop.
She got out of bed and quietly walked to the door to look through the peephole.
It was Michael.
Sinclair was stunned and didn't plan to open the door.
Outside, Michael said, "Sinclair, open up. Can we talk?"
He sounded drunk.
How did he know she was here?
Sinclair leaned against the door, staying quiet.
But soon, a neighbor, hearing the noise, came out and scolded, "What's all the racket in the middle of the night? If you keep this up, I'll call the cops!"
Michael, rarely losing his cool, said, "I had a fight with my wife, and we're trying to work it out. Sorry for the noise."
The neighbor, seeing it was a marital spat, didn't say much, just added, "Stop knocking. Talk it out properly. If it doesn't work, just get a divorce."
The neighbor was being sarcastic.
But Michael took it seriously, lowering his head and saying, "I don't want a divorce."
It wasn't clear if he was saying this to the neighbor or to Sinclair inside.
Through the door, Sinclair heard it.
She lowered her eyelashes and spoke to the door, "Michael, please leave. I've decided to divorce. Don't try to change my mind. Just let me go."
