Chapter 316 The Baby Is Gone
Juniper's pregnancy lasted only four weeks. The D&C procedure was quick, and she was wheeled out half an hour later. After the anesthesia wore off, she lay on the hospital bed with vacant eyes.
Selina stood by her bed and was about to call out "Mrs. Blackwood," but held back and corrected herself, "Ms. Beaumont, Jenny is still at home. You're not feeling well; should I bring Jenny over to keep you company?"
Juniper shook her head. "I want to be alone for a while. Jenny is still young; it's not good for her to know about these things."
Selina then asked, "What would you like to eat? I'll have the chef prepare something and bring it over. You've just had surgery, and you need nourishment."
Juniper said weakly, "Just some light food."
Selina nodded. "Alright."
Juniper was silent for a long while, then suddenly asked in a hoarse voice, "Can Magnus's phone be reached now?"
Selina didn't dare to answer. After Juniper was taken into the operating room, she had been trying to call Magnus, but his phone was indeed off and unreachable.
Selina didn't dare to tell Juniper the truth, fearing she couldn't handle it. But without getting her answer, Juniper understood. "It's still off, isn't it?"
Selina could only lie, "Mr. Blackwood might be in some trouble. His phone has been off; there must be something urgent."
Juniper chuckled bitterly, "Forget it. The baby is gone anyway. Even if I could reach him, what difference would it make?"
When Juniper needed him the most, he wasn't by her side. The only one by her side was the housekeeper, Selina, whom he had arranged.
She hadn't even had the chance to share the news of her pregnancy with him before the baby was gone. It came unexpectedly and left just as unexpectedly.
Juniper's trembling hand slowly caressed her flat abdomen. Now that the baby was gone, what difference did it make whether he knew or not?
If Juniper could hate him, if he still loved her, she could tell him about it and make him feel deeply guilty. But now, none of it seemed to matter.
Magnus wasn't in trouble; he was just getting married to another woman.
Juniper snapped out of her intense pain, the lingering ache making her a bit more clear-headed.
She asked Selina, "This was just a minor surgery. Can I be discharged tomorrow?"
Actually, after a D&C procedure, once the anesthesia wore off, one could leave after a short observation.
But Juniper was weak, so staying a couple more days for some IV nutrition was better.
Selina said, "Ms. Beaumont, if you're not in a hurry to leave, you can stay a few more days. The doctor hasn't mandated anything."
Juniper closed her eyes. "Let's go back later. I want to go to the embassy tomorrow to replace my passport." With the baby gone, her desire to return home grew even stronger.
Selina said with a hint of hesitation, "But Ms. Beaumont, Mr. Blackwood instructed..."
Juniper sneered, "Why should I obey him now?"
She had been obedient to him and brought Jenny to Solara because she loved him and wanted a future with him. But now, why should she still listen to him? To be a mistress kept in Solara?
After a while, Juniper's phone rang. Both she and Selina were startled. They thought it might be Magnus. Selina handed her the phone.
Juniper took it, glanced at the caller ID, and her eyes lost all their light. She took a deep breath and answered, "Hello, Ronald."
"Juniper, there's something I've been keeping from you. I didn't know if I should tell you, but I..." Ronald said.
Juniper interrupted him before he finished, "I already know."
Ronald asked gingerly, "You... saw the news?"
Juniper replied, "Yes, I saw it."
Ronald's first reaction was to comfort her, "Even though Sophie says it's true, I think it needs to be verified. Don't be upset just yet."
Juniper said, "You don't need to comfort me, Ronald. I want to go back home, but Magnus took my passport. It might take a few days to replace it."
Ronald was stunned and a bit surprised. He gritted his teeth and couldn't help but curse, "Magnus, that bastard! How could he treat you like this?"
Juniper sniffled, "Ronald, do you know anyone here who can help expedite the passport replacement?"
She didn't want to stay in Solara another day. That small house felt like a cage, humiliating her.
Ronald said firmly, "Alright, I'll ask around right away. Juniper, don't be upset. If Magnus really marries Sophie, I'll make sure to confront him!"
Ronald, like family, stood behind her. When people were helpless and in pain, a few comforting words from family could make them break down in tears.
Juniper held the phone in one hand and covered her mouth with the other, her voice choked with sobs, "Ronald... the baby is gone..."
It was just a few words, but by the end, Juniper was crying uncontrollably.
In Solara, during that critical moment, the only person she could rely on was Selina.
In Juniper's heart, Ronald had long been family.
This phone call shattered the psychological defense she had been holding up.
Ronald was stunned for a few seconds, then, after processing the news, asked worriedly, "What about you? Are you okay?"
Juniper swallowed hard, "I'm fine."
After the overwhelming grief was released, her uncontrollable emotions temporarily stabilized.
But Ronald was furious. "If Magnus doesn't give an explanation, we'll crash his and Sophie's wedding! You were pregnant with his baby, had a miscarriage, but he actually didn't answer his phone or stay by your side! Is he even a man?"
Juniper said sadly, "I just want to go back home as soon as possible."
Ronald stated, "Alright, I'll find out how to expedite the passport process. Don't worry. If it doesn't work out, I'll fly to Solara tomorrow to bring you back."
Selina, who had been listening to the call, felt sorry for Juniper and decided to take a risk. "Ms. Beaumont, I know where it is. Mr. Blackwood gave it to me before he left, asking me to keep it so you couldn't easily return home. But now that things have come to this, even if I don't give you the passport, you'll still want to go back."
Juniper nodded, understanding that Selina was just an employee following orders. She didn't blame Selina and simply said in a hoarse voice, "Thank you."
Juniper didn't stay long at the hospital and soon went back. She had just had a miscarriage, her body was weak, and her face was pale.
Once they got home, Selina found the passport and handed it to her. "Ms. Beaumont, keep your passport safe. You probably won't come back to Solara after this trip home. Although we've only known each other for a short time, I think you're a good person. I still hope all your wishes come true."
Juniper smiled faintly and said, "Thank you for taking care of me during this time."
Selina smiled sincerely, "It's my duty. Ms. Beaumont, I wish you all the best."
