Chapter 178 Damn Competitive Streak

A year ago, Juniper suddenly disappeared without a trace. From her good friend Ophelia, William learned that she had committed suicide due to a relapse of depression. That was all he knew; the real reason remained unclear to him.

But now, seeing Juniper alive made William incredibly emotional.

He hugged Juniper tightly, tears welling up in his eyes. "You're alive, you're really alive!"

Juniper was about to push him away.

A cold, deep male voice sounded from behind. "What are you doing?"

Only then did William release Juniper and look towards the source of the voice.

Juniper walked over to Magnus and explained, "William just found out I'm still alive, and he's a bit emotional."

"Emotional enough to hug?" Magnus's eyes were cold.

William remembered Magnus.

At Juniper's mother's funeral, he had gone to the cemetery and met Magnus.

Although it was just that one encounter, William could clearly feel that Magnus was grumpy and was difficult to get along with. He couldn't understand how Juniper had been with Magnus before and even had Jenny.

With that kind of temper, anyone would find him unbearable.

Although William had a gentle temperament, he was not a pushover.

Facing the rude remark, William couldn't help but retort, "It's just a hug between friends."

Magnus snorted. "So, just friends. I thought it was something more significant."

William put his hands in the pockets of his white coat and smiled politely. "An ex-boyfriend isn't anything significant either. Compared to an ex-boyfriend, being friends is better. After all, friendships can last longer."

Magnus was silent.

Magnus' handsome face turned gloomy for a moment.

Juniper, having experience, knew that if Magnus was unhappy, it would be William who would suffer.

She quickly said, "William, you're on the night shift, right? Why don't you go back to work?"

William said, "Juniper, let's meet up next time. My phone number hasn't changed. If you need anything, you can call me directly."

Juniper nodded. "Okay."

William was not just an ordinary friend; four years ago, he had saved her life.

Seeing them exchange pleasantries, Magnus grabbed Juniper's wrist and walked forward briskly.

As they passed by William, he snorted coldly. "An ex-boyfriend may not be a significant identity, but being the father of a child is indeed special."

Both William and Juniper were stunned.

She thought, 'His damn competitive streak!'

After Sinclair's three bottles of medicine were finished.

Magnus and Juniper took her to the hotel before driving back to Royal View.

Sinclair didn't want to call Michael; it was their business; Magnus and Juniper wouldn't interfere.

Besides, Magnus didn't care about Sinclair's situation.

What he cared about was something else.

He was about to ask something when Juniper spoke first.

"There's something I've always wanted to ask you."

It was rare for her to want to ask him something, and a glimmer of hope flashed in Magnus's eyes. "Spill."

Juniper continued, "It happened a long time ago, but seeing William today reminded me."

About William?

Magnus's mood instantly soured, but he roughly knew what she wanted to ask. "If you want to ask about William suddenly being transferred from Imperial Capital to S City..."

He paused and directly admitted, "Yes, I did that."

Juniper looked at him, momentarily stunned.

Magnus' admission was so straightforward that Juniper didn't even know what tone or attitude to use to continue the conversation.

While she was silent, Magnus glanced at her, his voice cold and indifferent. "What, are you going to stand up for William?"

He thought, 'Or, are you going to help William argue with me?'

Juniper was silent for a long time before asking, "Then how did he get back to Imperial Capital Santa Maria Hospital? Did you contact the hospital?"

This time, Magnus was still very straightforward in admitting, "Yes."

After Juniper jumped into the sea, he knew that William had saved her life, so he contacted the dean of Imperial Capital Santa Maria Hospital.

Magnus didn't take credit. "However, he was originally a talent cultivated by Santa Maria Hospital. Even if I didn't contact them, the hospital would have secretly called him back."

Juniper was momentarily unsure whether to be angry or to laugh.

Juniper asked, "Why did you do that? Just because you hated me at the time, so you took revenge on me? But William..."

Before she could finish, Magnus said, "Juniper, when a man is jealous, he can do anything. If he does nothing, it's only because he can't beat his opponent. Of course, I never considered William my opponent."

He never considered Michael,William or Ronald his love rivals.

However, that didn't stop Magnus from being annoyed.

Juniper didn't know what to say for a moment.

As the black Rolls-Royce approached Royal View, Magnus said, "If I didn't know that William had saved your life, his hands that hugged you would already be crippled."

The implication was that Magnus was only sparing William because of Juniper.

Magnus was indeed capable of such things.

During their passionate relationship, Juniper once worked part-time at a bar during summer break and was touched by a thug. When Magnus found out, he dragged the guy into an alley at night. If she hadn't stopped him, he would have crippled the guy.

That was Magnus, obsessive, decisive, ruthless. Anything that belonged to him, even if it would hurt himself, he would reclaim at any cost.

However, William was a cardiothoracic surgeon, and his hands were crucial for surgery. For a surgeon, his hands were more important than his life.

Juniper's eyelids twitched, and she couldn't deny feeling a bit scared.

If William had been crippled because of her, that would have been terrible.

Juniper took a deep breath and said, "William and I are just friends. There's nothing between us. Don't go looking for trouble with him. We had nothing before, we have nothing now, and we will have nothing in the future."

She was clearly explaining to him, but for some reason, the more Magnus listened, the more upset he became.

Magnus frowned gradually. "You seem to care about him."

His tone was unpredictable.

It was hard to tell if he was happy or angry.

Juniper's heart tightened. "I really have nothing with him."

His face remained gloomy, as if her explanation hadn't reached him at all.

Juniper became anxious. "Can you not involve unrelated people in our matters?"

He thought, 'Indeed, this is indeed between us, just between us.

'William, from beginning to end, is just an outsider.'

For some reason, this thought seemed to please Magnus.

He suddenly agreed readily, "Fine."

Juniper almost didn't know which words would make him angry and which would make him happy.

Magnus's personality was too unpredictable.

Juniper thought optimistically, 'However, these difficult days would soon be over.

'Just endure a little longer, take some Paroxetine for a while, and everything would pass.'

When they returned to Royal View, it was already 3 AM.

Jenny was already asleep.

Juniper took a shower; her hair was still wet; she was about to dry it with a towel before blow-drying it when a hot chest suddenly pressed against her back.
