Chapter 280 Let Him Stay Overnight
Juniper's eyes were full of worry.
Magnus glanced down at her and gave a faint smile. "If I were poisoned, I'd be out cold like Christopher by now."
He was hiding his feelings perfectly.
Juniper didn't notice anything off and let out a small sigh of relief. But thinking about Christopher still being unconscious, her brow furrowed again. "Is there an antidote for the poison Christopher has?"
"I don't know," he replied.
If Magnus didn't know, did that mean Christopher was really in danger?
Juniper felt a pang of sorrow, an indescribable discomfort.
Christopher wasn't just her savior; he was the first person to make her feel a father's love. Even though they weren't related by blood, Juniper always felt a strange closeness with Christopher.
Magnus's cool hand touched her face, and he asked gently, "Are you really worried about Christopher?"
"Yes, Christopher saved me and sent me to Celestia for treatment of my lung disease. The treatment was really painful, and many times I almost couldn't hold on. If it weren't for Christopher's constant encouragement and support, I might have died."
Christopher, like a father, gave her confidence and strength.
In the past, even though she was the daughter of the governor of X City, she never felt the power of family affection. On the contrary, being Alexander's daughter brought her more of an involuntary shackle, a bottomless dark abyss.
When Alexander died in the explosion on the international seas, she was sad, but more than that, she felt that such an evil person finally died.
But someone as compassionate as Christopher shouldn't die.
In the grand scheme of things, a brief separation seemed insignificant, even trivial.
But Solara was so far away that it made her feel a tinge of fear.
Juniper was never a sentimental person, but now, looking at Magnus, all the emotions she had been holding back for so many days came flooding out.
Her nose tingled, and her eyes suddenly turned red. "I don't want to leave. I don't like the Imperial Capital, I don't like Southern City, and I don't like Solara."
When she cried, Magnus was completely at a loss, his heart turning to mush.
He raised his hand to wipe the tears from her face with his thumb and asked hoarsely, "Then tell me, where do you want to go? As long as it's safe, I'll take you there."
The Imperial Capital and Southern City were now completely under surveillance, making them too dangerous.
She and Jenny would become his vulnerabilities.
Juniper sniffled, her eyes wet as she looked at him. "I don't want to go anywhere, Magnus. I just want to stay by your side. I don't know why, but I feel like if I leave this time, I'll never come back."
They had been together for seven years, a milestone many deemed crucial. Juniper doubted they could last another seven.
She just wanted a family together.
She also knew that there might be earth-shattering battles happening outside, and staying would likely drag Magnus down, making it impossible to have a few peaceful days. But she wanted to face it with him.
She didn't think she was being cowardly.
Magnus just looked at her deeply, not responding for a long time.
She choked up and said again, "I don't want to go to Solara, and I don't want to break up."
She was firm yet extremely felt difficult.
Juniper, usually reserved, spoke with unshed tears in her reddened eyes.
If the person in front of her wasn't Magnus, she wouldn't have put down her pride and used such a nearly pleading way to ask him to let her stay by his side.
But when she mustered up the courage to say these things, what responded to her was Magnus's long silence.
Juniper curled her lips into a mocking smile. "Am I being pathetic right now?"
It was tough for her to say those words, her pride taking a hit.
Her rational side told her to stop clinging to Magnus. He didn't even want to marry her, so why keep hurting herself?
But deep down, a soft yet undeniable voice kept saying, "Juniper, he's Magnus, the guy you've been holding onto for seven years. He's right here. Maybe if you try a little harder, you can keep him!"
She wasn't sure.
But her body acted faster than her mind, making her stay.
Magnus just looked at her silently, his eyes hiding a hint of softness. That barely noticeable tenderness was raging inside him, held back to the extreme.
Juniper looked broken and fragile.
Magnus's face stayed calm and indifferent, but inside, he was already crumbling for her.
He couldn't control himself, and he had lost count of how many times he had softened.
He opened his mouth, wanting to refuse her.
But Juniper seemed to have thrown caution to the wind, her pale hands cupping his face, her red lips blocking his response.
Their lips and tongues intertwined.
This tactic was pretty desperate.
Magnus had always had great self-control, but the person in his arms was Juniper, so everything was different.
Juniper only needed to stand there, doing nothing, and she could effortlessly make him compromise, again and again.
She kissed him urgently, almost falling into his arms.
Magnus instinctively raised his hand to support her slender waist and back, afraid she might bump into the cabinet behind her.
Her kisses landed on his lips, chin, and Adam's apple.
He didn't respond, but he couldn't bear to push her away, letting her do as she pleased in his arms.
In the dim light, Juniper said, "Solara is too cold, it always snows. I don't want to go, Magnus."
This was her second plea.
If he refused her after she mustered such courage, he didn't know how heartbroken she would be.
He couldn't help it, letting out a barely audible sigh, his large hand rubbing the back of her head. He looked down at her and finally coaxed her, "If you don't want to go, then we won't go. Don't cry."
"Then why did you push me to Ronald? Magnus, am I just an accessory to you? Someone you can throw to anyone?" Juniper knew she should stop.
But she had been holding too much discontent in her heart lately, and this light questioning of Magnus wasn't even anger, just dissatisfaction.
But inside, she was already feeling extremely wronged.
She didn't want to be so obedient. Being understanding was always a last resort. If she could be willful, who wouldn't want to act recklessly?
Magnus lowered his head and gently kissed her lips. "It's my fault."
If she were just an accessory to him, he wouldn't have to go to such great lengths to hide things from her, to painstakingly arrange everything for her.
Who would care about an accessory?
On the contrary, Juniper was so important that he didn't dare to take any risks with her. That was why he tried every way to force her to take Jenny to Solara.
But she would eventually want to go on her own.
He knew Juniper well and naturally knew best how to push her.
As long as he could push her towards a safe path, it didn't matter how much she hated him.
After this commotion, Juniper mistakenly thought they had reconciled, and their relationship seemed to have eased a lot.
Magnus held her and comforted her for a long time, "It's getting late. The people downstairs should have finished their meeting. I'll head back to the hotel first?"
Juniper grabbed his hand, her gaze fixed on him. "You can sleep with me. Ronald has prepared a children's room for Jenny."
