Chapter 236 He Broke His Promise

The massive blaze on the sea lit up the tears in Juniper's eyes.

The blinding fire got even crazier, turning the deep sea into a fiery orange.

"Magnus..." Juniper cried.

Why'd you have to be so dumb?

Why'd you trade your life for mine?

On the cruise ship, he told her to jump into the sea together and escape together.

He promised they'd live and die together.

Magnus hated lying and breaking promises, yet he still reneged on his word.

Juniper said firmly, "I gotta go back and find him!"

Paul grabbed her, and Juniper fought like a trapped animal.

He explained, "If Mr. Blackwood's still alive, Agency 719 will find him! But he had a bomb on him, and with that fire, there's still a risk of another explosion! Ms. Beaumont, you can't go!"

He had promised Magnus to protect Juniper.

"Paul, I'm begging you, take me over there. If he's dead, how am I supposed to live? He came to save me! If it weren't for me, he wouldn't have died."

Juniper's eyes were so red they appeared to be aflame.

She was too emotional, and after a night of hell and bad news, she was physically wiped out.

Paul raised his hand and knocked her out, "Ms. Beaumont, I'm sorry."

Juniper passed out on the speedboat.

Paul covered her with a blanket, "Get some good sleep."

Juniper slept for a long time.

Because of the shock, she slept in a daze.

Nightmares drenched her in cold sweat.

She woke up with a start, "Magnus!"

Beside the bed, Jenny was watching her with wide eyes.

Her soft, warm hand held her slightly cool one, "Mommy, did you have a nightmare?"

Upon hearing Jenny's voice, Juniper slowly turned her dull gaze toward her, "Jenny..."

"It's me! Mommy, why are you all sweaty?"

The little one grabbed a few tissues, climbed onto the bed, and knelt beside Juniper to wipe her sweat.

Juniper was in a daze for several seconds.

Until Jenny curiously asked, "Mommy, where did you and Daddy go? You didn't come to my parent-teacher meeting, and I got scolded by the teacher. Where's Daddy? Why didn't he come home last night?"

Juniper looked at Jenny, her eyes filled with extreme sorrow.

She wished this was just a nightmare.

But Magnus really didn't come back.

Juniper hugged Jenny tightly.

She didn't know how to answer.

Should she just tell her that Magnus might be dead?

Juniper couldn't bring herself to say it.

"Mommy, what's wrong? You're hugging me so tight, I can hardly breathe," Jenny said.

Juniper's tears fell hotly, "It's all my fault."

If it weren't for saving her, Magnus wouldn't have died.

If she hadn't returned to Imperial Capital, maybe none of this would have happened.

She was an omen of misfortune. Every time she tried to get closer to Magnus, it always brought him catastrophic disaster.

Juniper's eyes brimmed with tears and sorrow.

"Mommy, why are you crying? Don't cry. If Daddy comes back and sees you crying, he'll think I made you cry, and he'll scold me."

Jenny grabbed a few more tissues and wiped Juniper's tears.

Juniper looked at her, but the tears flowed even more fiercely, "Jenny, if your father doesn't come back, what should we do?"

"Why wouldn't Daddy come back? I'll call him and tell him you miss him, and he'll definitely come back." Jenny was about to make a call.

Juniper hugged her tightly and closed her eyes, "Don't do it, he'll come back."

The bedroom door was rapped upon.

"Ms. Beaumont, it's Paul."

Juniper wiped her tears and said to Jenny, "Jenny, I have something to discuss with Paul. You go play by yourself for a while."

"Okay! But you can't cry anymore! If you cry, your eyes will get swollen, and you aren't pretty!"

Jenny touched her face.

Juniper forced a smile and nodded, "Got it."

After Jenny left, Juniper immediately asked, "Is there any news?"

Paul sighed and shook his head helplessly, "Not yet."

"Are they not trying hard enough to find him? Or, could Magnus have already been rescued? Paul, can you get more people to look for information?" Juniper was not giving up.

But Paul analyzed rationally, "If it was just jumping into the sea, Mr. Blackwood would definitely still be alive. But he had a bomb strapped to him, and the cruise ship explosion was likely triggered by him. Ms. Beaumont, I also hope Mr. Blackwood is still alive, but this time, I'm sorry, it's unlikely he survived."

Juniper clutched the blanket tightly, her fingertips pale.

"I don't believe it... He promised me that we would live and die together. He's the most trustworthy person, Paul, you don't understand him."

Paul chuckled lightly, "I don't understand Mr. Blackwood, but Ms. Beaumont, how well do you understand Mr. Blackwood?"

Anyway, now that Magnus was dead.

Paul wanted to tell her everything now.

Juniper was puzzled by his question, "What do you mean?"

Paul sighed, "When Mr. Blackwood found out that you had a stress disorder towards him, he chose to let go and even sent you back to Southern City. If it had ended there, it would have been fine, but the entanglement is the most hurtful thing. Mr. Blackwood couldn't let you go and went to Southern City alone, following you and watching you date Ronald, shop at the supermarket, and attend concerts."

"When you had an accident at the theater, the one who really saved you was Mr. Blackwood. He was hit on the back by a chandelier while protecting you and was hospitalized for several days. Ms. Beaumont, did you visit him even once?" Paul sneered.

Juniper's stopped tears silently fell again, "When I went to the hospital to find him, you had already left. Then I drove out to chase him and called him, but I thought he didn't want to see me."

Paul seemed to hear a joke, "How could Mr. Blackwood not want to see you? During your time in Southern City, his bipolar disorder got worse, and even eight lithium carbonate pills a day couldn't suppress it."

Her eyes trembled, "Bipolar disorder?"

Having had depression, she was familiar with bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder was characterized by alternating episodes of depression and mania.

Paul spilled everything, "Ms. Beaumont, when you felt like giving up on life, Mr. Blackwood was also overwhelmed by similar thoughts of despair. When you jumped into the sea, Mr. Blackwood jumped in after you. Do you know why Mr. Blackwood has bipolar disorder?"

"Because I caused him to spend three years in prison, and he once hated me to the core," Juniper said.

"If it were just pure hatred, he wouldn't have hated you anymore later, and his mental knot should have been resolved. But his bipolar disorder didn't get better. Aria was his psychologist and counseled him for four years, but it didn't help at all."
