Chapter 301 Fainting
Magnus remained silent for a long time.
Juniper grew anxious and asked again, "Are you going to marry someone else? I dreamed that you were wearing a wedding ring from another person."
Magnus looked calm and raised his left hand to show her. "I'm still wearing our couple's ring. How could I marry someone else?"
Seeing the plain silver ring on his slender ring finger, Juniper's anxiety from the entire night finally settled back down.
She raised her right hand and waved the plain silver ring on her ring finger in front of him. "I'm wearing mine too, but this silver ring is quite old. It looks a bit oxidized. I can't clean it with body wash. Can I use toothpaste to make it shine a bit?"
Magnus said, "Add a spoonful of salt to aluminum foil, then pour boiling water over it and let it soak for a while. The oxidation on the surface will come off."
Juniper had never heard of this method before. "Really?"
Magnus explained, "Yes, it's an electrochemical reaction. When cleaning silver with aluminum foil and salt, the aluminum reduces silver oxide back to silver in the electrolyte environment provided by the salt. Boiling water speeds up the process, making the silver ring shine."
Juniper smiled sweetly, "You're quite good at turning textbook knowledge into handy life tips."
Because the silver ring was given by Magnus back then, Juniper had always cherished and worn it.But now that he held a high position, wearing a plain silver ring on his ring finger didn't seem to match his status.
Juniper wondered whether to buy a new pair of platinum rings that wouldn't tarnish to give to him as matching couple rings.
Platinum, due to its stable metallic properties, was resistant to discoloration and oxidation, just like their love—enduring and never fading. This made it more meaningful than silver rings.
Thinking this, she said, "When you come to Solara to see me and Jenny, I have a gift for you."
Magnus asked with smile, "What gift?"
Juniper keep him in suspense. "It's a secret for now. You'll know when we meet."
Magnus raised an eyebrow, half-smiling. "I thought the gift was you."
She lowered her eyes and whispered, "That's a bonus."
Magnus remarked, his tone teasing, "That's quite a valuable bonus."
Juniper mumbled, "You're not happy about it?"
His deep, gentle voice carried a hint of a smile, "No. I prefer the bonus over the gift."
They chatted for a while.
Magnus glanced at the time, his smile fading, and said seriously, "It should be almost midnight there. It's late. Go to bed early, okay?"
Juniper thought, 'It's midnight in Solara. So it should be around seven in the morning in the Imperial Capital.
He's wearing formal attire. Has he already washed up and is planning to go to work, or has he not slept all night?'
Juniper asked, "Did you get up early or stay up all night?"
Magnus replied, "Before you boarded the plane, I was in a meeting and didn't have time to video call you. I worked until after 2 a.m. and figured out your landing time in Solara. With a few hours to spare, I stayed up a bit longer so I wouldn't miss your call."
If he fell asleep and never woke up again, and she had just arrived in Solara without having talked to him, she would overthink terribly.
Juniper suddenly choked, her eyes gradually growing sore. "You could have slept first. Even if I called and you didn't answer, it wouldn't matter. When it's morning here, it's daytime there. Next time, I'll calculate the time and call you."
He was so busy with work, staying up late to video call her was fine once or twice, but doing it often would be too much.
Magnus looked at her deeply, apologetically. "When it's morning in Solara, it's almost afternoon here, and I'm very busy in the afternoon, Juniper."
Juniper asked, "What should we do then?"
He put away the tenderness in his eyes and said seriously, "I might not be able to call you every day. I'll video call you when I have time, okay?"
Juniper asked, her voice tinged with a hint of grievance, "So, I can't call you?"
"You can," he paused, "but I probably won't be able to answer."
Juniper felt a bit disappointed but still agreed, "Alright, but... when will you come to Solara to see me and Jenny?"
Magnus mused, "Probably not anytime soon."
Juniper then asked, "Then how often will you call me?"
Magnus said tentatively, "Once a week, okay?"
Juniper was stunned and murmured, "That long?"
She didn't know how others managed long-distance relationships, but a call or video once a week seemed too little. Or was it that everything really changed after coming to Solara? Was Magnus planning to cut ties with her?
Juniper's face gradually changed, her mood visibly dropping.
Magnus had to comfort her, "Juniper, be good, okay? After this busy period, I'll come to Solara to see you and Jenny."
Could Juniper say no? He was already coaxing her so gently. She didn't want to make things difficult for him.
Considering how busy he was with work, she nodded and said, "Okay."
Magnus urged her again, "Go to sleep. It's late."
It was clear he had things to do and wanted her to log off.
Juniper knew that, but she was indeed reluctant. "Magnus."
Hearing that she called him like this, Magnus knew she didn't want to hang up. He took a deep breath and smiled, "It's so late, and you're not sleepy?"
Juniper shook her head. "I slept a lot on the plane, so I'm wide awake now."
Magnus patiently said, "But baby, I really need to take a short nap now. I have a business meeting at ten."
With him saying that, Juniper naturally wouldn't keep him any longer. After saying goodnight, she hung up the video call first.
But being new to Solara, in a foreign country, a foreign city, a foreign house, and a foreign bed, she couldn't sleep at all.
Juniper didn't know what was wrong with her. She had been apart from him for six years before and never felt this clingy, but recently, she was incredibly needy.
She didn't like the feeling of her mood being completely controlled by another person. She didn't want to become so sensitive, even dreaming of Magnus marrying someone else.
It was quite ridiculous.
Tossing and turning, she couldn't help but search on social media: [Is long-distance love hard?]
The answers were surprisingly unanimous:
[Yes. Time differences, energy, and long-term separation will lead to breakups.]
[If one person goes abroad, it's best to break up immediately. Don't test human nature.]
[When you test the toughness of this glass, it's destined to break. So don't test it. Long-distance love, break up quickly, don't torture yourself or others.]
Meanwhile, after Magnus hung up the video call, his heart suddenly ached as soon as he stood up, and he clutched his left chest, almost unable to stand.
The intense, heart-wrenching pain quickly spread throughout his body, and his vision blurred instantly.
He struggled to take a few steps, his steps faltering badly. A few seconds later, his tall figure collapsed straight in the study.
