Chapter 99 The Leap

"Ophelia, being friends with you has been my greatest luck. Thank you for your companionship all these years."
"Don't say these things. Quickly tell me where you are! I'll come find you right away! By the way, Magnus just called me. He asked where you were, and it seems he has forgiven you. He's coming to find you!"

Ophelia rushed out and ran all the way to the beach.

She looked around and saw a slender figure in white standing on a distant cliff.
"Juniper! Please don't jump! I, I can see you! I'm coming right away!"

"In the past, I always wanted his forgiveness, but now, it doesn't matter anymore. Between him and me, it has been a mistake since the moment we met. If I had listened to Alexander from the beginning and married someone unfamiliar, even without love, maybe I wouldn't be suffering like this. Alexander was right, not being obedient comes with consequences."

"What about Jennifer! You still have Jennifer! Even if you don't want Magnus, don't want me, what about Jennifer! She's so young! Can you bear to let her lose her mother?!"
When Jennifer was mentioned, Juniper visibly paused for a few seconds.

But she just smiled and said, "Yes, Jennifer. I owe her an apology, but I have no other choice, Ophelia. I can't climb out, so I want to be selfish once. I'm sorry."
"Beep.Beep."

Juniper hung up the phone.
Ophelia ran towards him, crying.
Juniper stood on the edge of the cliff.
The night sea breeze blew her long hair and skirt into a mess.
She looked at the small island in the middle of the sea, illuminated by warm lights, with hope in her eyes.
Once, she wanted to leave Imperial Capital, leave X City with her mother and Jennifer, and go to a place where nobody knew them, preferably isolated from the world.
It seemed like she had found it now.
She opened her phone album and took a glance at the photo of her and Jennifer on the Ferris wheel.

She smiled and placed her phone on the grass.
The night sea is so beautiful.

So beautiful that it makes one want to jump off.
She turned her head and seemed to see a familiar figure in the distance. Was it an illusion? It looked like Magnus.
Being able to see him again before her death. God had been kind to her.
But now, she owed him nothing. She could be free.
She turned to look at the vast and surging sea, and smiled.
Magnus, farewell.
If there were another life, it would be better not to meet again.
She jumped off.
"Juniper!"
Magnus chased after her, trying to catch her, but he didn't catch anything.
Under the cliff, that white figure was quickly swallowed by the turbulent waves.
Without thinking, Magnus also jumped.
Ophelia's cry trembled through the air. Seeing both of them jump, her face turned pale with fear.
She quickly took out her phone and called Robert.
"Not, not good! Juniper jumped into the sea! Magnus also jumped! Quickly, quickly contact someone to rescue them!"
"What!"
"Robert, hurry up! They jumped off the cliff. Juniper can't swim! I'm afraid they will..."
"I'll contact them right away."
Half an hour later.

Magnus emerged from the shallow sea and reached the shore.
He was soaked, with an expressionless face.
He knelt down on the grass.

His gaze was dead and devoid of any light.
Ophelia ran over and asked him, "Where's Juniper? You didn't find her? She can't swim."
Yes, Juniper couldn't swim.

So when she jumped, she made up her mind, not wanting to live anymore.
Magnus knelt there with a stiff, defeated back.
Since when did Juniper have these tendencies?
Did it start that time at Silver Lake, when she walked into the lake, having thoughts of suicide?

He always thought that it was because he took away Jennifer's custody rights, and she was just momentarily upset. So he promised her to see Jennifer once a week.
He thought that this way she wouldn't spiral out of control anymore.
He thought that she was just forcing him to forgive her.
But all of this was just what he thought.

Even if she didn't want him anymore, what about Jennifer? Why could she abandon Jennifer too?
Magnus knelt there with bloodshot eyes, feeling defeated.
He had already forgiven her.

He had already planned to propose to her.
Why do they always miss each other, constantly missing each other?
While he was joyfully planning their future, she turned around and left him.
When he hated her, she would humbly seek his forgiveness.
When he no longer wanted to hate, wanted to let her go and let himself go, she no longer needed that.

Soon, Robert and the search and rescue team arrived.
Magnus knelt there, remaining silent all along.

Ophelia was frightened and whispered to Robert, "When Juniper jumped, he jumped too. They didn't find Juniper, and when they came ashore, he just knelt there. Is he...is he crazy?"
Tonight, Ophelia saw two people jump into the sea with her own eyes and was scared out of her wits.

Robert squeezed her shoulder and said, "Go wait in the car for me. I'll handle this."
"But Juniper hasn't been found yet."

"The search and rescue team is here now, even if you stand here waiting, it won't help."
Ophelia was obedient for the first time.

She was trembling all over now, even if she saw two unrelated people jump into the sea with her own eyes, she would still be scared half to death.

Not to mention that the person who jumped into the sea was her best friend.
Robert walked up to Magnus, reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder, squatting down to comfort him, "It's still within the best rescue time. Maybe there's still a chance."
An hour had already passed.

Magnus was not a fool. He clearly understood that for someone who couldn't swim at all, drowning in the sea for an hour was more likely to result in death than survival.
Moreover, Juniper had no intention of living anymore.

She appeared calm, as if she had no plan, but in reality, once she made a decision, she would resolutely stick to it and could never be brought back.

Jumping into the sea, she would probably even abandon her instinct for survival completely.
Magnus's throat tightened.

His voice was extremely hoarse, struggling to speak, "I regret it."
Regret hating her.
Regret not accompanying her to see sea earlier.
Regret snatching Jennifer away from her.
Regret not coming earlier tonight.
If he had arrived earlier, he could have stopped her from jumping.
Robert put his hand on his shoulder and said, "It's not your fault. Everything that happened between you and Juniper was just a twist of fate. Perhaps there's truth to the saying that the deeper the love, the more fate manipulates."
One hour passed.
Two hours passed.
Three hours passed.
The search and rescue team captain stepped ashore and said, "It's been three hours, and we still haven't found her. It's possible..."

Magnus lowered his gaze and said, word by word, "Keep searching. Juniper can't tolerate the cold and wouldn't be able to stay in the deep sea."
Desperate Love: sorry for my dear husband
