Chapter 157 Do You Love Me?

InterContinental Hotel, inside the Presidential Suite.

Riley handed the phone back to the neatly dressed man across from her. "I went along with the act Do you really want a divorce, or are you just seeking revenge?"

Robert snatched the phone back. His handsome face froze.

Robert snorted, "You want me to be with you after I divorce?"

Robert's words were, as always, nonchalant.

Riley raised an eyebrow, half-jokingly and half-seriously, saying, "Well, it's not impossible. I don't mind if you remarry."

Even if men like Robert were to remarry for the third or fourth time, there would still be plenty of women wanting to be with him.

The Browns was powerful.

Robert smirked, a hint of gloom in his smile. "But I do mind. I don't like to repeat mistakes."

Riley was speechless.

With the phone in hand, Robert left the suite with a cold expression.

As soon as he sat in the car, the phone rang again.

This time, it wasn't someone from the Perezs.

The caller ID showed Magnus.

As soon as the call was connected, Magnus bluntly said, "If you don't come right now, Patrick will beat your wife to death."

Robert frowned. "Are you at the Perezs?"

"Juniper dragged me here."

"Patrick is a fool. A beating will stop him from continue making trouble."

Magnus coldly said, "She's not my wife. Why would I beat him up?"

Robert's lips twitched.

"Are you coming or not. If not, I'll take Juniper with me."

Patrick had been pestering Magnus for an hour, flattering him with every word, but Magnus didn't pay attention to a single word.

The black Cullinan drove out of the underground garage.

Robert gritted his teeth and said, "Wait."

Amelia brought up a medicine box and even brought over a plate of fruit for Ophelia.

She knew Ophelia had always resented her for collaborating with her father to set her up.

Amelia hoped Ophelia could marry into the Browns and live a comfortable life.

With red eyes, Amelia said to Juniper, "Juniper, you are Ophelia's best friend. Please help me persuade Ophelia not to divorce Robert. Robert likes to fool around, but when he came to our house for dinner, I saw that he treated her well. In a couple of years, when they have children, Robert will surely change."

Marriage was always full of quarrels.

Juniper naturally did not agree with Amelia's statement. Amelia could tolerate being in such a marriage, but Ophelia was not her. Ophelia didn't want her marriage to become a bargaining chip.

"Aunt Amelia, this is Ophelia's marriage, and she has the right to make decisions. Whether she divorces or not, you're her mother and should stand by her side and consider her."

She shouldn't have blamed Ophelia for why she wanted a divorce.

If a marriage had truly gone wrong, deviated from its path, and coudln't be salvaged, divorce was the best outcome.

Amelia hesitated, worried, "But... what will Ophelia do if she really divorces? If she has a child with Robrt, his parents won't allow them to divorce. Even if Robert wants to divorce, his grandfather won't allow it. His grandfather really likes Ophelia."

"Aunt Amelia, their marriage is in trouble. Having a child won't solve the problem."

Moreover, what was the use of Robert's grandfather liking Ophelia?

Ophelia would still have to sleep in the same bed with Robert at night.

If there were no feelings between them, how could they endure so many days and nights?

Ophelia, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up, "Mom, I can't be like you. If you can't understand me, just think I'm being unreasonable. I don't need your understanding anymore."

Previously, Ophelia had tried to make Amelia understand her and stand by her side, but she later found out that Amelia started it all.

Ophelia realized that her beloved mother had never stood by her side.

"So, are you determined to divorce?"

Amelia's focus remained on divorce.

She seemed unable to sense Ophelia's emotions, only wanting to pressure Ophelia to say what she wanted to hear.

Juniper felt suffocated listening to this.

Especially as Ophelia's biological daughter.

Ophelia raised her hand to cover her face. "Mom, can you leave and let me calm down?"

Amelia had no choice but to leave the room.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw Robert standing at the doorway with a stern face.

Amelia was startled. "Robert..."

Feeling there was a turning point, Amelia quickly said, "Robert, go in and talk to Ophelia properly. Don't get angry. Ophelia has nothing with Thomas. They broke up five years ago. Ophelia has never contacted him, not even once."

Amelia expressed Ophelia's loyalty to Robert.

She seemed to be indifferent to what Robert had done to Ophelia, only concerned about whether Robert would despise Ophelia.

Robert didn't respond but strode towards Ophelia's room.

Juniper was about to leave to let them talk alone when Magnus came up and pulled her away.

In the room, only Robert and Ophelia remained.

Robert reached out, pulled a chair over, and sat directly in front of Ophelia. "Say it. How many bags do I need to buy to please you this time?"

"Or, should I give a sum of money to the Perez Group?"

Ophelia looked up at him, silent for a few seconds, and said, "Robert, I want a divorce."

Divorce.

The Browns had no tradition of divorce, whether among the elders or the younger generation.

From the moment they got married, Robert had never intended to divorce.

He had mentioned divorce twice before in anger.

But it was originally a marriage of convenience.

Robert funded the Perez Group and provided her with a lavish lifestyle, and she could use his credit card as she pleased.

Ophelia only needed to occasionally pretend to be affectionate with him in front of others.

Was it because Thomas had returned?

Did she want a divorce?

Robert's expression turned colder. "My grandfather won't agree. You know he's quite pleased with you."

"I'm not living with your grandfather. Just because he is pleased with me, does that mean I have to spend my life with you? Riley has returned, right? I know you like her. If you divorce me, you can be with her. Your grandfather likes me because I'm your wife now. He is nice to me because he cares about you, his grandson."

Robert gritted his teeth. "Is it because Riley has returned that you want a divorce, or is it because Thomas has returned?"

Ophelia once thought that breaking up with Thomas would leave her in regret for a lifetime.

But five years had passed.

When she met Thomas again, everything seemed off.

Thomas had changed, and so had Ophelia.

They couldn't go back.

Ophelia thought Robert's ego was at play, so she said, "Don't worry, after the divorce, I won't get back together with Thomas."

Divorcing Robert was not because of Thomas.

Their marriage simply had no reason to continue.

It was a marriage that started with a design, and Ophelia knew that Robert was not enthusiastic about it either.

Since the marriage began in absurdity, it was best to end it early.

Ophelia no longer wanted to be controlled endlessly by Patrick.

This was the first time Ophelia had solemnly proposed divorce to Robert.

It was clear she was serious.

"If you don't plan to get back together with Thomas, what's the point of divorcing me? Who will buy you bags galore after the divorce?"

"I don't want those bags. I'll return them all to you, and I won't use your credit cards anymore."

Robert loosened his tie, a touch of annoyance in his eyes.

Suddenly, he reached out, dragging the chair Ophelia was sitting on closer.

"What are you trying to do?"

His grandfather had just called, asking him to bring Ophelia back to the old house for dinner tonight.

Ophelia looked up at him. "Robert, do you love me?"

Silence was the answer.

If he didn't love her, why was he unwilling to divorce?

Was dragging each other along fun?

Without the marriage, Robert could fool around outside until whenever, with whomever, without the shackles of marriage. Wouldn't that be better for him?

Robert fell silent for a few seconds.

His gaze fixed on Ophelia. "Is love important to you?"

In his twenties, Robert had been in a few relationships.

Some lasted a month, some three months, and some half a year.

He dated casually, and soon after, he would break up. In those relationships, Robert was always the one to initiate the breakup.

There was no particular reason. He just got bored.

Robert had never really loved anyone, so he couldn't understand why Ophelia thought he loved Riley.

Love was inconsequential to him, a dispensable thing in his circle.

But once a marriage was settled, Robert had no intention of divorcing.

The reasons for marrying Ophelia were simple.

One was they had been intimate, even if it was by design.

Another reason was that she was suitable, Robert was at the right age, and his grandfather was urging him. When he brought Ophelia to meet his grandfather, he liked her.She was sweet-tongued and made the elders happy.

For Robert, love didn't matter, but suitability did.

As for whether he loved Ophelia, Robert had never thought about it.

Ophelia put it plainly, "For me, I want to marry someone I love, and I hope that person loves me too."

Robert's eyes darkened, "Do you want to marry Thomas?"

Ophelia felt he couldn't be reasoned with.

Ophelia didn't want to beat around the bush anymore. "Divorce is good for both of us."

"The Browns don't have a habit of divorce. Except for this, everything else is fine."

"You stayed at a hotel with Riley last night. Are you still going to drag this out with me?"

Ophelia truly couldn't understand how Robert could flirt with other women outside while adamantly refusing to divorce.

Robert's temple twitched. He irritably said, "You're only allowed to entangle yourself with Thomas, but I can't have some fun with someone else?"

Ophelia was increasingly puzzled by him.

Robert suddenly stood up, seeming to have run out of patience, he said—

"If you want a divorce, fine. I've invested a few billion in the Perez Group before. If you return it to me, I'll agree to the divorce."
