Chapter 249 Trouble with Pregnancy
"You said there was no need to meet, so I drove off. I could've ignored your rules and just shown up, clinging to you like we always did. Even if it led nowhere, who cares? We could just drag each other down. It's not like I was ever a saint. How can someone who’s lied under oath be considered a good person?"
She swallowed hard and went on, "But the tiny bit of morality I have left keeps telling me that if there's no future, I shouldn't mess with you. So I tried to hold back, and I almost made it. But then, in international sea, you said we'd live and die together, and I believed you. You shook me up. But now, it seems like you don't want to be tangled up with me anymore. Is that what you're saying?"
She laid it all out there, no filter.
Magnus looked at her tear-streaked face, unsure if it was from heartache or Venomshade's poison, feeling a sharp pain in his chest.
He wanted to hug her like before but held back.
He lowered his gaze, hiding his emotions completely. "I shouldn't have gone to Southern City to find you. That was my mistake. Whatever compensation you want, I'll try to give it to you."
Except for the future, which he couldn't offer, anything else she wanted, he would give.
The message was clear to her that he didn't want Juniper to bother him anymore.
She chuckled lightly. "Mr. Blackwood, you just slept with me and now you want to dismiss me? The shares of SY are still in my hands, and it seems you have nothing else to offer me. Or do you have other hidden assets?"
"A few years ago, on a whim, I bought a few mines and an island in Meridian, and some land in Solara. I can't remember the rest clearly, but whether you want them or not, when I..."
The word "die" was on his lips, but he swallowed it back.
He looked up at Juniper and said, "These properties will be yours and Jenny's in the future. I also have some cash in my overseas private accounts. If you want it, it's all yours. The password is your birthday."
Juniper had cornered him, but she didn't expect him to seriously detail his assets.
For a moment, she was at a loss. "If you give all this to me and Jenny, what about yourself?"
He planned to settle her and Jenny, then fight the Shadow Syndicate without any worries. After all, he was already poisoned, and whether he died a few days earlier or later made no difference.
Those assets were meaningless to a dying man.
He looked at her with a faint smile. "You wouldn't be so heartless as to let me live under a bridge, would you?"
"You'd rather give me all your assets than keep being tangled up with me? Magnus, do you really want to cut ties with me that badly?" Juniper was sad.
"Juniper, I'm sorry..."
Juniper kissed him, cutting off his apology. Maybe the kiss was too sudden, and Magnus froze for a moment.
In the dim light, she cupped his face with her hands, kissing him long and tenderly, yet with a bit of force. "Magnus, it's always been you who decides between us. But this time, I don't want to go along with you. Why should it be your way? Do I have to come when you call and leave when you wave me away? Why?"
Magnus mocked. "Don't you care about your mother's death anymore?"
He knew her too well, knew exactly how to push her buttons and make her give up.
The closer he was to someone, the better he knew where to hit them where it hurt.
Juniper hated him too, but sometimes love trumped hate.
She looked at his thin lips, her gaze slowly moving up to his eyes, and said, "I care. That's why I never planned to forgive Ava. As for you and me, let's drag each other down. After all, we owe each other more than just a day or two. When it’s all drained and there's nothing left, I won't need you to push me away. I'll leave on my own. What do you say?"
He looked at her coldly. "But I have no feelings for you anymore."
"Are you sure? No feelings for me, yet you saved me and traded your life for mine? Magnus, you're lying to me again."
"Because you're Jenny's biological mother. If I didn't save you, what would Jenny think of me when she grows up?"
His voice was flat, devoid of any emotion.
For a moment, it was almost convincing.
Juniper's eyes stung, and tears welled up. "Then why did you go to Southern City and secretly follow me and Ronald?"
"Just a man's possessiveness. I wanted to see how far you and Ronald had progressed," he answered.
"So even if I went back to Southern City and married Ronald, you wouldn't care?"
Juniper was pushing him.
Magnus's reaction was as calm as still water. "Ronald is more suitable for you than I am."
Juniper raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and her fingertips trembled.
Magnus remained unusually calm. "Juniper, don't degrade yourself. There will be better people waiting for you."
All her efforts and entanglement tonight was like countless slaps, heavily landing on her face.
It was utterly ridiculous.
Ophelia was right, when it came to being heartless, men were always better than women.
That night, lost in thought, she didn't know how she fell asleep.
In a daze, Magnus tightly hugged her from behind and kissed her for a long time.
But it must have been a dream.
Even in the past, when Magnus hated her, he would be enraged at the thought of her marrying someone else. But now, he truly didn't care anymore.
The next morning, Juniper woke up feeling like everything was a dream—except for the soreness all over her body and the discomfort between her legs, reminding her it was all real.
She propped herself up and sat up. The room was empty.
Magnus was gone.
Juniper wrapped herself in clothes and got out of bed, calling out in the room, "Magnus?"
But there was no response.
Just as Juniper thought he had left without saying goodbye and was about to go out to find him, the door opened.
They almost bumped into each other.
Juniper frowned. "Where did you go?"
Magnus was holding a white plastic bag and handed it to her. "I went to the nearby pharmacy to buy some medicine."
Juniper took it. Inside was a box of bruise ointment and a box of emergency contraceptive pills.
Last night, at her request, they hadn't used protection.
Seeing her in a daze, he reminded her, "Take it quickly. Getting pregnant would be troublesome."
Magnus doubted Ronald would still take care of her if he really died and she was pregnant with his child.
He wasn't sure Ronald would love her more than he did.
