Chapter 261 What Did You Call Me?
The word 'Sweetheart' made made Juniper stop in her tracks.
It felt like she was back seven years ago. Only back then would he call her that.
Juniper looked up at him from his arms. "What did you just call me?"
Maybe her stare was too intense.
Magnus cleared his throat, trying to play it cool, holding her as they walked out. "Nothing, let's go. Coffee or shopping?"
But Juniper noticed his ears were a bit red, which was a rare sight.
She though, 'Magnus, getting shy?'
The mall was bustling with people.
Magnus and Juniper were quite the sight. Just now, he was sweet-talking her so much that passersby couldn't help but stare.
Magnus was definitely handsome, but he had this sharp, cold vibe. Juniper had this elegant, delicate look, like a lady from a noble family, with a very pure aura.
People looked at Magnus like he was bullying Juniper, with eyes that screamed douchebag.
A reporter caught this scene, already thinking of tomorrow's headline: #Business Tycoon Dumps First Love! First Love Cries in Regret!#
After snapping the photos, the reporter left, satisfied.
Juniper noticed the unfriendly stares from the passersby.
Her face started to heat up. She quickly wiped her tears with the back of her hand and said, "I don't want coffee or a bag."
Magnus was super patient, not showing any sign of annoyance. "Then what do you want to do?"
He indulged her like she was a kid, showing more patience and affection than he ever did for Jenny.
Juniper had been to this shopping area before with Ophelia. There was a mall across the street they could check out.
But it was raining outside now. Juniper glanced at her high heels. These high heels had leather soles, and stepping in water would ruin them.
Magnus seemed to read her mind. As they reached the mall entrance, there were umbrellas available.
Magnus grabbed an umbrella and bent down in front of her. "Hop on."
Juniper, wearing jeans, easily jumped onto his back, wrapping her arms tightly around his shoulders and neck. Magnus held her securely with one hand and opened the transparent umbrella with the other.
They walked into the rain.
In the late fall of Imperial Capital, the cold was biting.
Juniper lay on his shoulder and sighed. "It's so cold. When we get to Southern City, I'll need an electric blanket."
"Yeah, you're afraid of the cold."
Magnus didn't know if it was just Juniper or most girls who were cold-natured. After all, he had only been with Juniper, whose hands and feet were as cold as ice in winter, and it took a long time to warm them up.
She looked at him, blinking playfully. "An electric blanket isn't as warm as you. You're a human heater. Do Jenny and I really have to go to Southern City?"
Magnus explained, "The Abbotts have a strong presence in the South, and Shadow Syndicate hasn't targeted them yet. You and Jenny should lay low for now."
"If you stay in Imperial Capital, will Shadow Syndicate try to kill you again like last time? Will it be dangerous?"
Magnus reassured her, "Last time they were so brazen because it was in international waters, beyond the reach of the law. Even if it was within the law, it would be hard to hold them accountable. But in Imperial Capital, if they want to deal with me, they won't use violence, at most business tactics. If you and Jenny stay with me, I'll be distracted."
His words held a degree of truth and were presented objectively.
Juniper didn't doubt him, only asking, "What about Jenny's classes?"
"Get Ronald to find a private tutor in Southern City? He'd be all over that."
Ronald always had a soft spot for Juniper.
Juniper gave him a weird look. "Jenny's your daughter. Why would you let Ronald handle that?"
Magnus used to be super protective about her having any ties with Ronald.
But now, he was suggesting Ronald help, even for something as important as finding a tutor for Jenny.
Juniper couldn't put her finger on it, but her gut was telling her something was off.
Magnus quickly glanced sideways. "You said you have no feelings for him, just see him as a brother?"
Juniper pursed her lips, deliberately saying, "Who knows, maybe one day I will. After all, we're both single. Right, Mr. Blackwood?"
She leaned close to his ear for the last part, enunciating clearly.
His hand holding her loosened slightly in retaliation, scaring Juniper into tightening her grip around his neck.
Juniper frowned and glared at him. "What are you doing?"
"What did you call me?"
"Mr. Blackwood?" She played dumb.
He threatened lightly. "I'll let go."
Juniper clung to his neck. "No."
Outside the umbrella, the autumn rain was cold and heavy, with puddles forming on the road. If she got down, her high heels would be ruined.
Magnus raised an eyebrow, glancing sideways at her. "Say something nice."
"Magnus Blackwood."
Juniper's tone was stiff and angry, as if forced.
He laughed. "Did I kidnap you?"
Wasn't he? He was indeed threatening her.
Juniper cleared her throat, softening her voice. "Magnus Blackwood?"
Was that good enough?
He smirked, teasing. "I will really let go."
She thought, 'Still not enough?'
Juniper was forced to give in. "What do you want me to call you?"
"Think for yourself." He sneered.
"Magnus?"
His smile was dazzling, eyes filled with amusement. "Almost meaninglessly."
She suddenly remembered him joking with Robert, always making him call him Dad.
"You wish I'd call you daddy!"
Magnus's mouth twitched. "I'm not that perverted."
Juniper stared at his profile, as if remembering something, her ears gradually heating up. After a few seconds of silence, she said, "Let's wait until you come to Southern City to pick up Jenny and me."
"Are you negotiating with me?" he asked.
Juniper planted a kiss on his cool cheek. "Is this enough?"
"A reward for carrying you?"
"Yes."
Magnus chuckled. "Juniper, do you think we're in a grade school romance?"
Juniper laughed without answering.
At Maple Villa, Sinclair, still recuperating from her car accident, tired easily.
She had just gone upstairs to sleep when the sound of an engine echoed in the yard.
Patricia got out of a red BMW and strode into the house.
"Michael!" she shouted.
Michael's brow furrowed as soon as he saw her, lowering his voice. "What are you doing here!"
"Sinclair posted your wedding photo on social media. I'm here to congratulate you! I picked out a special wedding gift for you two. Where's Sinclair?"
Patricia acted normally, as if Sinclair's car accident had nothing to do with her.
Michael grabbed her arm, dragging her into the first-floor study and closing the door.
He frowned, glaring at her. "What are you up to?"
"Michael, what are you talking about? I'm not up to anything. You just got married. As your sister, shouldn't I come to congratulate you?" Patricia said.
"You caused Sinclair's car accident. How can you have the nerve!" Michael was angry.
