Chapter 154 You Were Sleepwalking

As the two approached the car, Juniper's phone rang.

The caller ID was Christopher.

Juniper answered the phone. "Mr. Abbott?"

"You've been in New York City for almost half a month. How are you doing?" Christopher asked calmly and gently.

Ironically, Juniper felt a sense of paternal love for the first time. However, it was not from her biological father, Alexander, but from Christopher, whom she had met by chance.

Christopher said they hit it off

Juniper felt the same way.

At that moment, Christopher called to check on her, much like a caring father inquiring about his daughter on a business trip.

Holding the phone, Juniper felt warmth in her chest. "I'm doing well. Don't worry about me."

"Has Magnus been causing you any trouble? Ronald mentioned some things about you and him after he returned. If you're not happy, you can come back to New Orleans at any time. Remember, Christopher's Mansion is also your home."

Juniper felt touched, tears welling up in her eyes. She nodded firmly, saying, "Okay, got it. Once everything here is settled, I'll come back to New Orleans to see you."

Magnus, driving the car, gripped the steering wheel, his gaze faltering.

Juniper still wanted to return to New Orleans.

After a lengthy conversation, Juniper hung up the phone and looked at the call log. For some reason, tears fell on her phone.

Perhaps it was because she had never felt this kind of paternal love since she was a child. Every time Christopher showed concern for her, Juniper was easily moved.

Children who lacked paternal love in childhood did not stop needing it as they grew older.

A tissue was handed to Juniper.

She took it, wiped her tears. sniffled, and said, "Thank you."

Magnus didn't ask anything.

He thought Juniper felt wronged being forced to stay in New York City and believed she was genuinely unhappy by his side.

Silent all the way, they arrived at Royal View. It wasalready midnight.

Surprisingly, Jenny was still awake, playing games on her tablet while lying on the bed.

Seeing Juniper return, she urged, "Mom, go take a shower, then come quickly to share a bed with me! I've been waiting for you for so long!"

Hearing Jenny say she had been waiting for her, Juniper softened.

After showering, she lay down next to Jenny and told her bedtime stories for a long time.

Before she knew it, Jenny fell asleep with her hands on Juniper's neck.

Juniper gently held her, kissed her on the forehead, turned off the bedside lamp, and fell asleep.

For some reason, as soon as Juniper closed her eyes, the scene from the hotel tonight involuntarily flashed through her mind.

Her palms felt hot.

Even her once-dead heart seemed to stir with a hint of emotion.

Could she still develop feelings for a man she had decided not to love?

Juniper didn't want to think about it and drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Juniper was awakened by the phone.

It was Ophelia's calling.

Juniper was still lying in bed, She quickly answered. "Ophelia? Last night, you and Robert...?"

Juniper wanted to know what had happened between them.

Ophelia's unusually calm voice came through the phone. "Juniper, I'm planning to divorce. Riley has returned."

"Riley?"

Juniper was puzzled for a few seconds before realizing. "Is she Robert's ex-girlfriend?"

"Yes, they were photographed entering a hotel together last night, and it's already trending."

Ophelia's tone was so calm that it made Juniper uneasy.

Even if Ophelia didn't love Robert, she couldn't  end a two-year marriage so indifferently.

Juniper asked worriedly, "Ophelia, where are you? I'll get up and come to you right away."

"My dad saw the news and has been calling me frantically, forcing me to come home and explain."

Patrick was particularly difficult.

Juniper had met him a few times. "I'll accompany you to the Perezs!"

After hanging up the phone, Juniper was about to get up when a pair of long arms hugged her waist from behind.

Juniper looked down and was stunned for a few seconds.

This wasn't Jenny's arms.

It was...

Why was Magnus sleeping next to her?

Behind her, Magnus embraced her waist, pulling Juniper into his arms. "What happened?"

His morning voice was lazy and tender, unintentionally tinged with a hint of warmth.

"Why are you sleeping next to me?"

Juniper clearly remembered Jenny sleeping beside her last night.

Magnus opened his eyes and teased, "Shouldn't I be asking you that? Juniper, why are you lying on my bed?"

"Did you carry me over here?"

Juniper was too tired last night to notice being carried over.

She looked puzzled.

Magnus said seriously, "You must have been sleepwalking."

"Sleepwalking?"

Juniper didn't have a habit of sleepwalking, did she?

While she was pondering, Jenny burst into the room!

Standing at the door, the little girl with her hands on her hips whined, "Dad! You're cheating! You promised Mom would sleep with me last night! You took Mom away! I knew Mom was in your room!"

Magnus remained calm and said, "Your mom sleepwalked over herself."

"Liar! I don't believe you!"

The little girl tried to look fierce, but she was extremely cute.

Juniper got up and hugged Jenny. "How about I stay with you tonight?"

"Okay! Tonight, let's play Monopoly! Whoever loses will have stickers on their face!"

Jenny wanted to play Monopoly!

She had been playing with Naomi, who learned how to play after half a day of teaching but always lost, which was no fun.

She thought, 'Playing with Mom and Dad was more interesting.'

Magnus ruffled Jenny's head, teasing, "Then your face will be covered with stickers if you lose."

Jenny pouted, "Dad, you're so clueless. You don't even know how to let a girl win in a game. No wonder you can't win Mom over."

Magnus and Juniper fell silent.

Despite her young age, Jenny's words and actions seemed very mature!
