Chapter 238 Lovesickness

"SY's the company Magnus set up seven years ago. If you hadn't ratted him out back then, SY would've been your birthday present. While he was dreaming up a perfect future for you two, you hurt him. Even knowing that SY was established solely for you, you still don't care?" Robert snapped.

Ophelia shot Robert a glare, "Why are you yelling? Calm down. Magnus passed away, and Juniper must be so sad. Even if she gets what this company means, does she have any right to run SY? She's not a legal rep or a shareholder. So why are you losing it at her?"

Robert's brow furrowed, and he was momentarily at a loss for words.

Juniper really had no right to manage the company, which was the biggest headache.

Juniper had spent the whole night in the study, not catching a wink of sleep. Her pale, delicate face now just looked tired and numb.

When she heard that SY was Magnus's gift to her, her long lashes fluttered a bit.

Ophelia looked at her with worry, grabbed her hand, and said softly, "Juniper, if you can't deal with this right now, just let it go. I'm sorry for Magnus. And Jenny still needs you. Right now, what's more important than the company is you and Jenny. You gotta stay strong and not lose hope."

Ophelia had seen Juniper in this kind of despair once before, over a year ago at Lyra's funeral.

Back then, Juniper had jumped into the sea right in front of her. She was really scared that Juniper's depression would come back and she'd lose hope again.

Juniper's eyes were dull. After a long pause, she slowly said, "I'm not Magnus's legal wife. Mr. Brown should know I can't inherit his shares. If we let Jenny inherit them now, it would confirm Magnus's death, which would hit the company even harder."

Plus, she hadn't told Jenny about Magnus's accident yet.

Robert sighed deeply, his face full of worry. "The problem now is that the shareholders might not want a kid inheriting the shares. This would need a vote at a shareholders' meeting. If many vote against it, Magnus's shares would have to be sold to someone else. At that point, SY would be out of our hands. Juniper, what do you think?"

"Let's keep Magnus's accident under wraps for now and say he's on vacation. Even if we can't keep it a secret later, we should at least buy a few more days," Juniper said.

It had only been forty-eight hours since his accident.

She didn't want to deal with Magnus's affairs so quickly. If he really passed away, what was the point of any of it?

As for the meaning behind SY, it was all given by Magnus.

If Magnus was dead, then SY would be nothing more than an empty shell to Juniper.

Just like the plain silver ring on her finger, it would constantly remind her of her past with Magnus.

But so what?

It was cruel for the living to constantly mourn the dead.

She'd rather die with him than spend the rest of her days mourning him.

For Juniper, it was a form of torture.

Ophelia asked, "Juniper, putting aside the company's issues, if Magnus really passes away, what are you and Jenny gonna do?"

"If Magnus is truly dead, staying in this city with Jenny will constantly remind me of him. I'm deeply afraid that one day I might not be able to bear it and wish to join him in death. I worry this might frighten Jenny."

Robert, who was standing nearby, was floored by her words.

The whole "dying for love" thing was something Robert had only heard about in the news.

They said if a couple was super tight and one of them kickde the bucket, the other might follow soon after from sheer heartbreak.

Even though Juniper and Magnus weren't legally hitched, they'd been through so much together that starting fresh with someone else was out of the question for her.

Their lives were so tangled up that if Magnus really bit the dust,Juniper would be plunged into utter despair.

Just like when Juniper jumped into the sea, Magnus had been ready to die for her too.

If you couldn't even be sure you'd make it through the day, then all the stuff you owned didn't mean squat.

As long as you were alive, everything had meaning.

If you were dead, no matter how meaningful the stuff was, it was just dead weight.

Juniper walked Robert and Ophelia to the yard.

"Mr. Brown, please keep the group steady for now. If Magnus doesn't show up in seven days, we'll call a shareholders' meeting to sort out the shares. I'll be there with Jenny," Juniper said.

Robert nodded, keeping his mouth shut.

After all, those shares were Magnus's. If he was gone, they'd naturally go to Jenny. Whether they sold them or kept them, Jenny and Juniper would be set for life.

Before leaving, Ophelia gave Juniper another hug.

"Juniper, take it easy these next few days and don't overthink. There's still a long road ahead."

Indeed, a long road ahead.

But without Magnus, that road seemed to stretch on forever.

Before, even when they were apart, just knowing the other was alive and thinking they'd meet again. Even if they couldn't be together, just seeing him from afar was enough.

Juniper had never been greedy. She just wanted Magnus to be alive.

But why did fate always mess with them? She no longer wished to be with him, yet she was still punished with a life-and-death separation.

After Robert and Ophelia left the Royal View, they sat in the car in silence for a long time.

Ophelia finally broke the silence, "You shouldn't have brought up the shares with Juniper today. Magnus was in prison for three years, and Juniper was depressed for three years. Now that he's dead, if Juniper really loses hope..."

Robert was driving, squinting his eyes, looking puzzled, "Does Juniper love Magnus that much?"

He'd never noticed before. He always thought Magnus loved Juniper more. In this relationship, at least in their friends' eyes, it seemed like Magnus had given more.

Juniper always seemed like the colder, more indifferent one.

But today, Juniper changed his mind.

Ophelia snorted lightly, "Of course, you wouldn't get it. You men always act like you're head over heels. Women are different. Even if they love deeply, they only show a little. How can we compare to your acting skills? Juniper may seem cold, but if she didn't love Magnus, would she have had his kid at eighteen? Do you know how much guts it takes for a girl to have a kid at eighteen?"

Robert laughed in exasperation, "You too?"
