Chapter 286 Forcing Her to Go to Solara
Juniper rolled into Christopher's Mansion way past midnight.
She was supposed to be back by 1:30 AM, but Magnus had other plans. He snuck up behind her, wrapped his arms around her, and planted a kiss on the back of her neck.
One thing led to another, and they got caught up in the moment. It took a while before she could finally break free and head home.
Even though she was dead tired, sleep didn't come easy once she got back to Christopher's place.
Next morning, Jenny was munching on a boiled egg. She hated the yolk, so she peeled it off and plopped it onto Juniper's plate.
Normally, Juniper would eat it, but today, one bite in and she felt queasy.
Ronald noticed and said, "If you can't eat it, don't force it."
Juniper just nodded, not feeling hungry, and sipped on some porridge.
Jenny reached over and touched Juniper's forehead. "Mom, are you feeling sick?"
Juniper held her little hand and said softly, "Maybe I caught a chill last night. Finish your breakfast, sweetie."
Jenny pouted. "It's all Dad's fault for making you take him back to the hotel in the middle of the night."
Ronald, remembering Magnus's request from last night, asked, "Did Magnus mention sending you and Jenny to Solara?"
Juniper was surprised. "He told you?"
Ronald didn't beat around the bush, "He wants me to send you both to Solara to lay low. What do you think?"
Juniper wasn't thrilled about the idea.
Plus, Magnus asking Ronald to send her and Jenny to Solara felt like he was just passing them off.
Juniper felt a surge of anger. "I haven't decided yet."
Ronald tried to reason. "Going to Solara is a good idea. It's safe there. Lately, both SY and Windsor Group might be in the Shadow Syndicate's crosshairs. Magnus is just looking out for you."
Juniper clenched her fists. "Ronald, why are you taking his side?"
Ronald smiled. "I just want you to be safe. If you decide to go, I'll take you there. Solara is too far; I wouldn't feel right letting you and Jenny go alone."
After breakfast, Ronald and Sophie headed to work.
Juniper, still feeling dizzy from the cold wind last night, took Jenny to their room to rest.
When she woke up, Jenny was gone.
She rubbed her temples and started looking around. "Jenny?"
But she couldn't find her anywhere, even checking the living room downstairs.
Juniper started to panic. "Jenny!"
Jerry heard her and rushed over. "Ms. Beaumont, what's wrong?"
"Jerry, have you seen Jenny? I was dizzy and sleeping. She was playing with her tablet by my bed. When I woke up, she was gone!"
"I saw her a little while ago, Ms. Beaumont. Don't worry, she's probably hiding somewhere playing," Jerry tried to reassure her.
But after searching the whole mansion, they still couldn't find her.
Juniper had a bad feeling and called Magnus right away, who showed up at Christopher's mansion in no time.
The moment Juniper saw him, she almost broke down, clutching his hands tightly. "Jenny is missing. It's all my fault. What do we do now?"
Magnus, on the other hand, was calm.
He held her and said in a deep voice, "Ronald has already sent people to look for her. Don't worry, the Abbotts have a strong presence in Southern City. We'll find her soon."
Juniper's mind was racing, and she blurted out, "Could it be Sophie? You pissed her off last night. Maybe she took Jenny to get back at you?"
Magnus frowned. "It's possible, but she wouldn't be that dumb. Kidnapping Jenny on the Abbotts' turf? She wouldn't get away with it."
Just then, Magnus's phone buzzed.
It was Ronald. "We found her. She's in an abandoned building in the southern suburbs. The kidnapper specifically asked for you to come and ransom her."
Magnus and Juniper wasted no time and headed to the southern suburbs.
In an old, rundown building, Jenny was unconscious, tied to a chair.
The kidnapper, masked and holding a gun to Jenny's head, looked menacing.
Juniper's face went white with fear. "Put the gun down. We can talk this out."
The kidnapper pointed at Juniper and barked at Magnus. "I told you to come alone. What's with the woman?"
Magnus lowered his eyes and said, "Juniper, you need to go outside."
Juniper didn't want to leave.
The kidnapper then pressed the gun harder against Jenny's head. "If you don't leave, I'll shoot your daughter!"
Her heart pounded, and she had no choice but to comply.
She squeezed Magnus's hand, worried. "Be careful. I'll be waiting outside."
Magnus nodded slightly. "I'll get Jenny out."
After Juniper reluctantly left.
In the abandoned building, it was just the kidnapper, Magnus, and the unconscious Jenny.
Magnus walked over calmly and said to the fake kidnapper, "Hit me a few times."
The fake kidnapper hesitated, "Mr. Blackwood, isn't this a bit much?"
Magnus glanced at the sleeping Jenny. "Hit my face, hard. Otherwise, it won't look real."
"Then I won't hold back, Mr. Blackwood. Don't take it personally."
About twenty minutes later, a loud gunshot echoed from the building!
Juniper, waiting outside, felt her heart skip a beat. Just as she was about to rush in, Magnus came out holding Jenny.
His face was bruised, with blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Juniper was terrified, reaching out to check his injuries. "What happened in there..."
"I shot the kidnapper," Magnus replied.
Juniper's heart trembled, her face turning pale. "Is he dead?"
Magnus, holding the unconscious Jenny with one hand, grabbed the distraught Juniper with the other. "Let's get back to Christopher's Mansion first."
On the way back to the Abbotts.
Juniper held Jenny tightly, afraid of losing her again.
After the harrowing experience, she couldn't calm down for a long time.
It wasn't until Magnus's warm, dry hand gently squeezed hers, his deep voice comforting. "It's okay now. Don't be afraid."
Juniper swallowed, unconsciously tightening her grip on his hand, asking worriedly, "Why hasn't Jenny woken up yet? Let's take her to the hospital."
"Alright, but she should be fine, just asleep."
Juniper, still shaken, her hands trembling, her eyes red, asked, "Who was that kidnapper? Why did he kidnap Jenny? And you killed him. Will the police come after you? Will you be in trouble?"
Magnus looked at her deeply and said, "The kidnapper was from the Shadow Syndicate. He wanted to kidnap Jenny to force me to cooperate with them."
Juniper was terrified, choking up, "Will they come after Jenny again? If they try to kidnap her again..."
"It's uncertain. But you and Jenny should go to Solara soon. If they don't have a target, I won't have any vulnerabilities."
Juniper looked at him blankly, her eyelashes trembling lightly, her lips pale.
