Chapter 360 All Gatherings Must Come to an End

At Michael's company in the Imperial Capital.

After the heavy snowfall, Imperial Capital looked like a winter wonderland.

When Sinclair stepped out of the elevator and into the office, a wave of mixed emotions hit her.

She remembered the first time she walked into this company, feeling both excited and nervous.

Everyone at the office thought she was just there to resign. They had no idea she was married to Michael.

A nosy colleague asked, "Sinclair, where've you been? It's been ages!"

Sinclair, clutching her bag, smiled, "I was sick for a while, but I'm better now. I'm here to resign."

She had taken a long sick leave due to pregnancy and a car accident, but the company had kept her position and benefits.

Today, she wasn't just there to resign.

She was also there to sign the divorce papers.

Michael had been dragging his feet on signing them, despite her constant reminders.

Just last night, he called her, saying he had a new divorce agreement drafted by his lawyer and asked her to come by today to review and sign it if everything was okay.

Sinclair walked towards his office.

When she opened the door, Michael and his lawyer were waiting.

They hadn't seen each other in a while, and Michael looked a bit worn out.

His assistant, Luke, asked, "Mrs. Johnson, can I get you some coffee or tea?"

Sinclair replied calmly, "No, thanks. I'm good. I'll just sign and go."

Michael gave her a long look, wanting to say something, but held back.

He handed her the divorce agreement, "This is the new one. Pay special attention to the compensation terms. If you're not happy with them, let me know, and I'll have the lawyer fix it."

Sinclair sat down and carefully reviewed the compensation terms.

Michael had offered her almost half of his assets.

Sinclair frowned, "These assets were yours before we got married. I don't have any right to half of them, especially since I didn't contribute much to your career."

She put down the divorce agreement, looked up at him, and said seriously, "I don't want this compensation. The two million dollars you gave me before is more than enough. Consider that the compensation."

But Michael couldn't accept it, "You had a car accident and a... miscarriage. It was Patricia's fault. I didn't keep my sister in check, and you suffered because of it. This compensation is what you deserve."

Sinclair showed no emotion, just smiled lightly and shook her head, "Patricia has already been punished. You don't need to compensate me further. Let's just sign the divorce agreement my lawyer drafted earlier."

She took out the previous divorce agreement from her bag and handed it to him.

"I've already signed it. Just waiting for your signature."

Michael clenched his fists, his throat tight, "Sinclair, is this really what you want? I..."

'I don't want a divorce.' Before he could say it, Sinclair interrupted him with a smile, "Michael, let it go, for both's sake. The moment I called Magnus to tip him off, I had already given up on you and this relationship. What's done is done. I can't pretend it never happened."

Seeing that he didn't take it, she pushed the divorce agreement in front of him.

Michael's throat tightened, and his fingers holding the pen trembled slightly, "Is this really what you want?"

Sinclair nodded with a smile, "Yes."

She had been with Michael as a stand-in, but now that it was over, he realized she was Sinclair.

That was nice.

Michael unscrewed the pen cap, the hard nib hovering over the signature line, the ink pooling.

His hand shook, and his knuckles turned white from gripping the pen.

With great determination, he finally signed his name in a scrawl.

With that signature, there was no turning back.

When Michael looked up again, his eyes were faintly red.

Sinclair decisively took one copy of the divorce agreement.

She even smiled, "It's signed. So, Mr. Johnson, when will you have time to handle the divorce procedures? Are you free today?"

Michael felt a sharp pain in his heart and didn't answer her question, only asking, "What are your plans afterward? Staying in Imperial Capital or going back to Oakvale County?"

Sinclair put the divorce agreement in her bag and said honestly, "My mom was right. Once you've flown out, you can't go back. Neither Imperial Capital nor Oakvale County is suitable for me. I'll use the two million dollars you gave me to further my studies in Elysium for a year."

"Is two million dollars enough? Elysium is quite expensive. If you need more..."

"Michael, your biggest flaw is that when I needed your concern, you were indifferent. Now that I don't need it, you're like this. Is it me who's pathetic, or you?"

Michael laughed mockingly, "I don't even have the chance to be pathetic now, do I?"

She stood up to leave.

Michael said, "Let me give you a ride."

Sinclair refused, "No need. There will be a time for parting. We still need to handle the divorce procedures to truly end this relationship. You can give me a ride then."

"Okay."

"But don't delay the divorce procedures too long. Once my visa is approved, I'll be leaving Imperial Capital."

Michael felt as if a knife was twisting in his heart, but he forced a gentle smile, "Got it."

Sinclair nodded and left the company after handling all the procedures.

In the car, she took a deep breath and started the engine.

As she set up the navigation, tears fell.

She wiped them away, smiled at herself in the rearview mirror, and told herself, "Hang in there, it will be over soon."

Michael, standing by the window and looking down, watched Sinclair's car gradually disappear from his sight, his vision blurring.

He asked Luke softly, "Do you think I'm a failure?"

Luke pursed his lips, "Mr. Johnson, it's not entirely your fault."

He smiled bitterly, "I don't even know how to win Sinclair back."

Sometimes, he envied Magnus and Juniper.

No matter what happened between them, even after being apart for more than six years, Magnus could still hold Juniper's hand tightly. It seemed they had long confined each other in a small world of their own, a prison of their own making.

No one could leave, and no one could break in.

They hurt each other, but only they could heal each other's wounds.

But he wasn't Magnus, and Sinclair wasn't Juniper.

In Skyville.

Juniper was about to return to the hotel after leaving the factory when her phone rang.

It was Sinclair calling, "Is this Juniper?"

"Sinclair? I haven't heard from you in a long time. What's up?"

"I've been meaning to treat you to a meal because you helped me before. But you seem to be very busy and haven't had the time. I might be leaving Imperial Capital for Elysium soon, and before I go, I still want to treat you to a meal."

Juniper was a bit surprised, "Going to Elysium? Not coming back?"

"I've obtained my simultaneous interpretation certificate. If things go well in Elysium, I might not return to Imperial Capital."
