Chapter 64 Daddy, Come Save Me!
Patricia's first reaction was to scoff.
"Kid, do you know who you're pointing at?"
"Yes! My daddy!"
Seeing her face full of conviction, Patricia was speechless.
She looked down at the little pipsqueak, "Kids like you make up lies on the fly, that's exactly what you're doing!"
Soon, the security guard caught up.
"Take her out. She's disturbing our work!" Patricia instructed.
"Yes, yes, the doorman wasn't paying attention. She slipped by! I'll take her out now!"
As the security was dragging Jennifer away
Jennifer yelled in her child's voice, "My daddy is really here! I'm not lying!"
Patricia was about to turn and go upstairs to find Michael when she suddenly remembered a message from Mary—
"That's the little brat! She's already six years old!"
A photo from the file flashed in Patricia's mind, and her brow twitched.
She turned to look at the wild child again.
It seemed, indeed, that was the Jennifer, the little brat!
She stopped the guard, "Wait!"
The security guard released Jennifer.
Jennifer ran up quickly, "Ma'am, do you believe me now?"
Patricia crouched down to Jennifer's level, offering a gentle smile.
She told the guard, "I know this child, I'll take her to find her father, you can leave."
Once the guard had left.
Jennifer asked eagerly, "Ma'am, where's my daddy?"
"Your daddy, well, he's a friend of mine, but he's not here. You've got the wrong place."
"Ah? So where is he? Ma'am, can you take me to him?" Patricia reached out, taking hold of the little girl's hand, and started walking toward the parking lot.
She couldn't believe that this was the child Juniper had had with Magnus. If that was the case, she simply couldn't let this kid meet Magnus.
Having been working all morning, Juniper was preparing to head to the cafeteria for lunch when she remembered her daughter Jennifer at home. She made a video call to check on her, but after a long while, no one picked up. This felt wrong to her, so she decided to look at the house surveillance. Scanning every corner, she couldn't find a sign of Jennifer. Even Jennifer's backpack was missing. Had she gone out all by herself?
Juniper's heart raced up to her throat. She called Jennifer's phone, but there was no answer. She tried the landline at home and Jennifer's watch phone, but there was no response. In a panic, she immediately dialed Ophelia's number.
"Hello, Juniper?" Ophelia answered.
"Ophelia, has Jennifer come to you?" Juniper inquired, her voice heavy with a barely contained sob.
"No, what's happened?"
"She's not at home, and I can't get a hold of her on the phone!"
"Don't panic. Maybe Jennifer just went downstairs to eat noodles? Didn't you say she's familiar with the lady who runs the noodle shop downstairs and always eats there?"
"Yes, you're right. I'm heading back right now to check!"
"It's not been 24 hours yet. We can't call the Officer yet. I'll drive over and pick you up. It'll be faster than you taking a cab."
"Okay!"
It was only about a ten-minute drive from Star Magazine Publisher to SY. Ophelia arrived quickly. Juniper was so anxious she didn't even ask her manager for leave. She just left work early.
Once they reached the apartment complex, Juniper dashed into the noodle shop but found no trace of Jennifer. They went to the security office to look at the surveillance footage. There, onscreen, they saw Jennifer with her little backpack, indeed leaving the elevator and the building.
"Ophelia, where could she possibly go?" Juniper was starting to lose her composure.
Ophelia thought for a moment and said, "Could she have gone to find Magnus?"
Juniper froze for a second. That was indeed a possibility. "I'll call Paul now," Juniper said, reaching for her phone. But before she could dial, Ophelia pressed her hand down.
"We're only guessing here. Jennifer might not have actually gone to look for Magnus. What if she didn't go after him? Wouldn't we be revealing our errors for no reason? Besides, if Magnus finds out you lost Jennifer, he could use that against you in court to fight for custody. The consequences could be dire! How about this – let's go back to the SY Group, and I'll get Robert to check the security footage for us."
At the SY Group, in the surveillance room, Juniper and Ophelia were desperately scanning through the camera feeds. Upon learning the full story, Robert was really worried for Juniper, "If Magnus gets wind of this, you're in deep trouble!" Ophelia nudged him in the chest with her elbow, "This isn't the time to be blaming Juniper. Zip it!"
The truth is, Robert's criticism wasn't necessary. If Jennifer was truly lost and couldn't be found, it wouldn't be Magnus's wrath Juniper would worry about. She'd feel so guilty she might consider the worst.
Despite his comments, Robert was sincerely eager to help. Seeing them struggle with the footage, he suggested, "You keep looking here. I'll go ask the security guards if they've seen Jennifer."
Five minutes later, Robert came back with news, "Jennifer did come by here, but she was taken away by a lady, and based on the guard's description, that lady likely works for our company."
Back in the surveillance room, Juniper spotted Patricia on the screen! "It's Patricia! She took Jennifer!"
Ophelia was furious, "Damn it, that woman is causing trouble again! Call Michael! Patricia is his sister, and if he doesn't step in to discipline her, who will?"
Meanwhile, Patricia had taken Jennifer to the hospital. Jennifer pursed her lips, sensing that something was off, "Lady, why did you bring me to the hospital?"
"Didn't you say you're Magnus's daughter? I'm here to get a paternity test done!" No one could just waltz up to Magnus and claim a relationship, especially not some random kid!
Jennifer frowned and glared at her, "You're lying! Take me back!"
"Get out of the car, kid!" Patricia said, roughly pulling Jennifer out of the vehicle.
Jennifer fought back, gripping Patricia's hand and biting down hard at the base of her thumb! Patricia winced in pain and pulled her hand back, giving Jennifer the chance to break away and run.
She quickly dialed a number she knew by heart on her child's wristwatch phone. "Daddy, pick up the phone, please!"
Just as Patricia reached out to grab the back of her collar, dragging her back like hauling a little chicken,
the phone connected!
Jennifer urgently shouted, "Dad! It's Jennifer! Come save me! I'm kid—"
She didn't get to finish the word "kidnapped."
Patricia quickly pushed the hang-up button!
"Who are you calling dad? You think Magnus will believe you're his daughter?"
Jennifer glared at her fiercely. "Let go of me, you mean lady! Just wait until my dad gets here. He'll definitely teach you a lesson!"
Patricia seemed to hear a joke.
"Ha, do you even know what my relationship is with Magnus? You think he'll teach me a lesson?"
Jennifer clenched her tiny teeth, staring furiously at her!
Patricia's face turned cold, dragging her into the hospital!
"Get in!"
As they reached the hospital lobby, Jennifer started screaming cleverly!
"Help! This bad lady is a kidnapper! She hit me! Sir! Ma'am! Save me!"
The kid had a voice loud enough to fill the whole hall.
Now, the gaze of everyone passing through the lobby was on Patricia!
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Little Jennifer was in tears, her eyes and nose red, looking pitifully helpless.
She just collapsed on the floor, rubbing her eyes, crying loudly!
"You liar! You tricked me, saying you were taking me to my dad! You abducted me! You're going to be in trouble when my dad arrives!"
Patricia looked around.
The people in the hospital lobby looked at her suspiciously.
She was about to yank the kid away when her cell phone started ringing.
The caller ID showed, brother.
