Chapter 362 How About Offering Yourself in Return?
Juniper shook her head, burying herself in eating fried chicken. "Just like something you would do."
Magnus was stunned into silence.
Juniper asked again, "Did Michael break up with you because of Patricia's death?"
Magnus responded softly, "Yes."
Juniper finished her fried chicken, took a sip of water, and slowly looked up at him, her eyes clear and calm. "Is there anything else I don't know?"
"Juniper."
For some reason, Magnus's voice tightened, "I didn't tell you about Patricia because I was afraid you would..."
Juniper suddenly asked, "Will you be arrested?"
"What?"
Juniper pondered, frowning, "If Michael wants to avenge Patricia and reports you, will there be trouble?"
"No. Patricia died in Agency 719's private domain. Since its establishment, Agency 719's mission has been to punish evil and promote good. Agency 719 is not accountable to any government department."
To put it bluntly, Agency 719 was backed by the President of Crestoria. Established for a century, this organization had made many significant contributions to Crestoria.
To be even more blunt, Agency 719 handled all the matters that Crestoria couldn't do openly.
Juniper took a moment to process the information, blinking slowly. "So, when you went missing after the incident on the high seas, you were recovering at Agency 719?"
"Yes."
"The last time you promised Sophie to make her a member of Agency 719, was that true or false?"
Magnus answered truthfully, "True."
Juniper pursed her lips, "Is everything Agency 719 does carried out in secret?"
"Yes."
Juniper was a bit confused, "Does that mean you'll often encounter life-threatening dangers in the future?"
Magnus gently squeezed her slender fingers, comforting her, "No, most of the forces that Shadow Syndicate had planted in Crestoria have already retreated. In the short term, they won't make a comeback."
"But there's still a chance of encountering brutal organizations like Shadow Syndicate in the future?"
Magnus didn't lie to her, "Yes."
"Can you teach me how to shoot?"
She had seen him shoot before, and he was very skilled, definitely an expert.
Magnus's eyes flashed with a hint of surprise, "Juniper, are you sure you want to handle something so dangerous?"
Juniper stared straight at him, mimicking his tone, "If you can handle it, why can't I?"
Magnus chuckled, conceding, "If you really want to learn, I can teach you. Self-defense is indeed necessary, but your physical condition is too weak. I doubt you can handle the recoil of a gun."
"So you need to eat more, at least gain some weight."
He pinched her cheek with his fingers.
Juniper said, "But for keeping Patricia's matter from me for so long, shouldn't you lose some points?"
Magnus laughed helplessly, "But I only have twenty points in total now. Can you bear to deduct more?"
"Ten points."
"That's too harsh, Juniper."
Juniper took a step back, "Then five points, no room for negotiation."
Magnus sighed.
Juniper said, "This is also a small warning."
Magnus hugged her, resigned, "Alright, now it's fifteen points. I'm even further from ninety points."
Juniper reminded him, "When you reach zero points, there will be no chance to earn more."
He looked down at her, chuckled softly, and complied, "Okay, I got it. So, is your stress response fully recovered now?"
Since returning from the high seas, she hadn't taken much medication.
He had saved her, risking his life, long surpassing the grudges of the previous generation.
Juniper hugged his waist, burying her face in his chest, and suddenly called him, "Magnus."
"What?"
"Thank you for saving my life again and again."
On the open sea, he sacrificed himself, using his life to save hers.
Later, he gave the only antidote to Christopher. If it weren't for his strong will, he might have died from the poison like Sophie's friend Martin.
Magnus stroked the back of her head, his deep eyes looking down at her, a hint of a smile in his voice, "So how do you plan to repay me?"
"A verbal thank you seems insincere. How about offering yourself to me?"
Juniper refused bluntly, "Not now."
Magnus asked, "Why not?"
"Wait until you reach ninety points. Right now, you only have fifteen."
Magnus smirked, lightly mocking, "Juniper, dating is the subject I'm worst at."
He had never failed an exam in his study life.
Fifteen points was an unprecedentedly severe failure.
Juniper pulled his neck down, her soft lips gently kissing the corner of his mouth, "Magnus, you can learn anything well. I believe in you."
"Are you coaxing a child?"
Magnus wrapped his arm around her waist, about to lower his head to kiss her when his phone rang.
It was Paul calling.
He answered.
Paul said, "Mr. Blackwood, I'm here. Which room are you in?"
"Room 701."
After hanging up.
Juniper asked, "Paul is here too?"
Magnus looked at her for a few seconds, a hint of reluctance in his eyes, and finally said, "Paul will drive in the morning. I have to go back to the Imperial Capital."
"Didn't you say you would stay to celebrate New Year's with me?"
"Something happened at the nursing home. My mom broke her leg, and I need to handle it."
Additionally, he needed to investigate the matter of the necklace.
Hearing this, Juniper nodded and said, "Then you should hurry back to the Imperial Capital. We can celebrate New Year's together another time."
Magnus wanted to say something, but the words stopped at his lips.
It was better to leave a surprise.
At night, Juniper took a bath and lay on the bed, exhausted, being held by Magnus.
She lay with her back to him, her cold, slender back pressed against his warm chest.
Magnus's gentle kisses fell on the back of her neck.
Juniper didn't turn around, resting on his arm, holding his well-defined hand, her soft fingers touching the calluses on his fingertips and palm.
These hands had held a gun, shot people, and been stained with blood.
Magnus's past was like a dazzling mist.
In the winter night of Skyville, the wind outside was strong. Even though the hotel's glass had good soundproofing, the howling wind could still be heard.
Despite being very tired, Juniper couldn't sleep.
Maybe it was because he was leaving in the morning, or maybe it was because of everything Sinclair had told her on the phone, making her thoughts restless.
Juniper suddenly said, "You didn't have to deal with Patricia yourself. For someone like her, it's not worth carrying a debt of life."
Magnus, behind her, said in a deep voice, "I originally just wanted to scare her, but she was too reckless."
If she hadn't cursed him and Juniper to betray each other for eternity, maybe he would have been kind enough to let her go through the proper procedures and die with some dignity.
But life didn't have so many 'what ifs.'
If Patricia had known her place from the start, she wouldn't have ended up where she did.
Juniper turned around in his arms, looking up at him, "But now you and Michael have broken up because of Patricia."
"Juniper, I don't really believe in karma or that good deeds are rewarded. For me, fighting evil with evil seems to make the wicked more fearful. I'm not a good person, and neither is Michael. If one day he wants to be my enemy, I will respect his decision, but I won't hold back. He needs to avenge Patricia, but I also have people I cherish and want to protect."
He looked into her clear eyes, exposing his dark side completely to her.
Juniper took a deep breath, "Magnus, tell me about the six years we were apart. How did you join Agency 719? And how did you survive those three years in prison?"
