Chapter 163 He Was Selfish in Relationships

Late at night, close to midnight,Jenny was playing Monopoly with Juniper. They had a great time, so they did not go to bed early.

After finishing the last round, Jenny pouted, saying, "Dad is still not home. Mom is leaving for S City tomorrow.  Why didn'the come back to play Monopoly with me. Mom, where did Dad go?"

Juniper glanced at the time, realizing it had past midnight and Magnus still hadn't returned. "Maybe he had a lot of work today. How about Mom taking you for a bath? It's late, and it's time to sleep."

These past few days, Juniper had been sleeping in Jenny's room, with almost no interaction with Magnus.

Juniper could clearly sense that Magnus was in a bad mood.

Jenny snuggled up to her, clinging and saying, "Mom, let's call Dad. I miss him. It's been days that we haven't argued with each other."

Juniper couldn't help but chuckle, saying, "Without he diciplining you, you shouldn't feel so bad, right?"

"He's been leaving food on his plate these days, and I've been doing the same. He doesn't scold me at all. I feel like Dad has been acting strange these days! And when I talk during meals, he doesn't criticize me."

Jenny spread out her hands helplessly, looking adorable.

Jenny asked Juniper to call Magnus, and she couldn't refuse.

Just as she was about to call Magnus, a message from Ophelia popped up.

Ophelia: [I saw this on Robert's social media. I hesitated for a long time, but I decided to send it to you. I think it's better to be honest and not keep things from you.]

It was a photo.

Although it was just a back view, Juniper recognized Magnus immediately.

Magnus got into a car with a strange woman.

The car window was slightly lowered, and the woman in the driver's seat had a bright smile.

They seemed quite familiar.

Juniper looked at the photo, her eyes dim, and calmly replied to Ophelia: [It's nothing strange. We broke up seven years ago, so it's only natural for him to meet new people and start new relationships.]

Even though they had rekindled their relationship recently, Juniper was clear about her aim, tosettle a debt.

Juniper was very clear that she had no extra thoughts about Magnus.

Even though Juniper was clear-headed, she still felt a bit stunned looking at the photo.

Jenny shook Juniper's arm, saying "Mom, what are you looking at?"

Juniper quickly turned off her phone.

"Nothing. I just texted Dad. He's not available to talk right now, but he'll be back home. Let's go take a bath and sleep, okay?"

"Okay!"

After bathing, Jenny fell asleep. However, Juniper couldn't sleep.

She spent the night half-awake, waking up at six in the morning.

Jenny snuggled up to Juniper, sleeping deeply, drooling on her nightgown.

Juniper gently pulled her arm away from the little one and got out of bed.

She opened the door to see if the car had returned to the yard.

As she opened the door, Magnus was coming up the stairs.

Their eyes met.

Magnus hadn't changed clothes, still in the outfit he wore when he left last night.

He had taken off his suit jacket, carrying it in one hand, his white shirt slightly wrinkled.

Two buttons on the shirt collar were undone.

The tie around Magnus's neck was the one Juniper had bought.

He looked a bit disheveled, as if he hadn't slept all night.

Had Magnus spent the whole night with that woman?

Juniper stood there and stared at Magnus's pale collarbones and Adam's apple, trying to find some clues, yet not wanting to find any. The contradiction in her mind was quite absurd.

For a moment, silence prevailed.

Magnus spoke first, his voice slightly hoarse probably from the sleepless night, "What time is the flight to S City today?"

"It's at ten in the morning. I'll pack my bags in a bit, say goodbye to Jenny when she wakes up, and get ready to leave."

Magnus nodded without much emotion, "Okay, I won't see you off. I'm pretty tired from not sleeping all night. I'll ask Paul..."

Not sleeping all night.

Juniper couldn't help but let her mind wander.

A young man and woman, both good-looking, spending the night together—was it just innocent chatting?

Juniper wasn't that naive. She understood Magnus's intentions.

Before he could finish, Juniper interrupted him, "No need, I can take a taxi myself."

"It's a villa area around here. It's hard to get a cab. I'll have Paul drive you."

Magnus was always assertive.

He walked past Juniper directly.

Juniper caught a whiff of a mix of smoke and alcohol on him, with a hint of perfume.

The scent of gardenias, a women's fragrance.

At that moment, despite her clarity, Juniper's psychological defenses crumbled.

Her delicate fingertips subconsciously dug into her palm.

Juniper cleared her throat and suddenly called out, "Magnus."

Magnus halted his steps.

Neither of them turned back.

"You should inform Jenny if you have any new life plans and communicate more with her," Juniper said abruptly.

Otherwise, Juniper feared Jenny wouldn't be able to handle it.

However, Magnus interpreted her words differently.

He didn't have any new life plans.

With a thin smile, Magnus replied coldly, "In 22 days... no, 21 days, you're leaving Imperial Capital, leaving Royal View. You should tell her about it yourself."

Magnus didn't have the energy or mood to deal with Jenny's emotions right now.

When it came to Juniper leaving Imperial Capital and Royal View, he needed more psychological preparation than Jenny.

It was Juniper who was leaving.

So, it was Juniper's responsibility to explain it to Jenny  .

After saying this, Magnus entered the master bedroom with his suit jacket.

Juniper stood there, feeling a lump in her throat for no apparent reason.

Juniper was immensely grateful that she didn't fall into that vortex again.

Thankfully, she held onto herself.

If she had hesitated a moment longer, Juniper might have fallen back into that emotional trap.

Luckily, Juniper had only cracked the door to her heart a tiny bit. As long as she quietly closed it without anyone noticing, no one would know about this turmoil. Thus, she could prevent a complete defeat.

After Magnus returned in the morning, he stayed in the master bedroom and didn't come out again.

He was probably catching up on sleep.

Juniper packed her bags, stood at the door of Magnus's room, and hesitated to knock, but eventually withdrew her hand.

She left the black card she had only used to buy a dress at his door. As for the pink diamond, she had returned before.

In the yard, Paul helped Juniper load the luggage into the trunk.

After saying goodbye to Jenny, Juniper stood by the car and glanced up at the building.

The curtains were tightly closed.

Jenny wrinkled her delicate brows and complained, "Dad is still sleeping! Mom, should I go wake him up?"

"No, he worked last night and didn't sleep. Let him rest."

Besides, waking Magnus up wouldn't make much of a difference.

Juniper had to return to Imperial Capital after finishing the reality show.

Their agreement was still in effect.

The black Maybach drove out of Royal View.

In the master bedroom upstairs, a large, bony hand pushed aside the curtains.

Magnus stood by the French window, watching the Maybach fade.

His gaze was deep.

Jenny climbed upstairs and saw Magnus coming out of the master bedroom.

"Dad, you're finally awake! But Mom just left!"

"Yes, I saw."

"Dad, why didn't you go send Mom off?"

If it was to see Juniper off, Magnus might not want to let her go and might force her to stay.

Sending her off to participate in some reality show to date other men—Magnus didn't have that much tolerance.

In matters of the heart, Magnus was selfish.

So selfish that he wantedto hide Juniper away.

Also, so selfish that even if someone online called her wife, Magnus wanted to shut down their account.

In fact, Magnus had already done so.

Those  accounts called Juniper wife online had been dealt with overnight by Paul's instructions to the IT department.
